What evidence do you habe to support these claims? How can you quantify the rise in crime related to this policy? It's simplistic thinking at it's worst.

If they know how many deaths are directly attributable to alcohol now, and they will know how many after the policy and the only major change has been the implementation of the policy then is it not fair to say that the difference might be connected? I imagine the 400 figure has come from statistical analysis of alcohol attributed deaths in Scotland, bear in mind that we only get to see the story the press releases, there is never any explanation of the science or thinking behind things like this, they just pick up on something that sounds outrageous or mildly interesting and use that as it sells.

What do you mean they can't quantify what they don't know? Why wouldn't they know the cause of a persons death?

I am aware that there are other sexualities other than whatever it is I am. some people throughout history have been persecuted because their sexuality is different to the majority as well as a whole host of other reasons and that is wrong. other than that does LGBT affect me? I don't think so, it's nobody elses business other than my own (and I suppose my partners!) what my sexuality is and it's none of my business what anybody elses is. Some people like to share these things, that's fine, doesn't really effect me either. Winston has mentioned a few times on here that he is gay and in a thread a while ago was describing being spat at while out with his partner which I was shocked at but I suppose not surprised. I don't really get the whole "I don't like it when they ram it down your throat?" argument. It never really worries me, it's only offensive if you let it be, I would just change the channel or ignore it if it worried me that much, the same as when I see Jeremy Clarkson or Chris Packham on telly. To be honest I find overly laddish behaviour more offensive if I were to be honest. Winston often posts about his sexualtiy on here and I always think he has a pretty good sense of humour and responds to the banter quite well, by and large that banter is always pretty light hearted and good intentioned, or that's how I read it. Thanks for posting the link Winston, if nothing else it's started a bit of a debate and that's got to be a good thing. Please continue to post gay stuff on other threads too, for what it's worth I quite like it.

If you have squirrels coming to a feeder and you can't get them into a trap then you are doing something wrong. Also you are comparing a team of shooters to one trapper. Trapping is, in my experience the most efficient legal way of killing squirrels by far. As I said I don't have experience of areas with Red squirrels and appreciate there are other considerations there. Again. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy shooting squirrels. It's good fun, but if I want to kill proper numbers and cover a wood effectively with the most efficient use of my time it's traps every time. The same is true of Corvids etc etc.

I've never controlled squirrels in an area that has also had reds so I can't speak from experience there. If I wanted to have fun, I'd shoot. If I want to kill serious numbers I trap. There's no reason why you can't do both at the same time though. The fact that you have shot more than you've trapped in itself isn't really proof of anything, is that covering a similar area? similar amount of man hours per animal? similar cost of ammo V traps? Are your shooting and trapping techniques equally as efficient? Last year I trapped far and away more squirrels than I shot.

I get that it's a big commitment but trapping is far more effective than shooting.

I meant where in the FC. I know of a few people who trap on FC land as volunteers and a couple of their own staff so maybe it's done in house where he applied?

The trouble is there are loads more plausible explanations before you get to it being a big cat. I wouldn't rule it out entirely but it is extremely unlikely. Most likely is it died of something else or was dumped there and then scavenged on.
