  1. I wouldn’t mind a 22g 3 load in a twelve bore out to about 35 yards, as it’s likely to pattern well enough out to there. Granted, nobody would buy said load, but that’s because there is obviously way better loads available in 12 bore. A 410 with lead shot would also be equivalent to a seemingly **** load in a 12, but we still use them and love them.
  2. Do we think that if and when steel shot is required these will become a more readily available cartridge? Or is the demand simply not big enough to warrant them making them cheaply for mass market?
  3. So 12 bore steel loads have come on immensely and are now a formidable cartridge. 20 bore lacks the range of steel loads 12 has but I’m sure the development will follow for 20 given the popularity. However, will 410/28 gauges get steel loads for the market or will it be limited to home loads?
  4. Just had a good play and realised it comes from the cocking bars that run along the bottom of the action to the forend and connect to the ejector trips in the barrel monoblock. seems like it should probably be a fairly normal rattle then? Just found it’s the cocking/ejection bar in the bottom of the action.
  5. Not something that overly bothers me, but more something I perhaps didn't expect in a £6k gun. Just wondering if it’s normal for a rizzini (based on round body action) to have a rattle if moved backwards and forwards when shut (doesn’t do it when open)? cheers
  6. I’m sure it’s been answered many times before but I couldn’t really find a definitive answer. I have recently bought a b rizzini which has a lovely stock and nice finish which I believe is a synthetic oil they leave the wood submerged in for a couple of days. How should I go about maintaining this sort of finish. Is boiled linseed oil the way to go? Or should I use a synthetic oil like they used originally? The stock is well finished but you can see a tiny bit of the grain is not quite filled.
  7. So I have a few 12 bores of different guises, and a 20 bore o/u. However, I have an itch for a tiny, light 410 or 28 bore side by side. I don’t find the 20 bore too much worse than the 12 - maybe 10% lower scores on average. However, seen there are 410 championships and seen people struggling online - just worried I won’t hit anything at all! Would I be better off just getting a 20 sxs? Also is 28 bore going to be able to cope with steel shot, as in my understanding 410 won’t really?
  8. I see - is this a common way of doing it? It’s just I’ve never seen a gun with this on the action face before.
  9. Looking at a B rizzini em which is their round body game gun. I find it feels best of all the similar priced game guns and looks great, but wondering about mechanicals. The gun shop informed me their mechanicals are as good as any and will outlast me, but there isn’t much info online. Seems to be built on a very similar action as a beretta or any Italian gun really, but I notice a strange button on the action face I’ve never seen before - not sure what that does.
  10. Yes, this is true generally, but I was using the example of the same load through both gauges.
  11. 20 bore kills just as well as 12. Honestly cylinder and improved cylinder kill everything out to 40 yards + if you put 28grams through a 20, and 28g through a twelve, the 20 will have a smaller, but denser pattern due to the longer shot column.
  12. Seen more woodcock than usual this year
  13. From looking at them people say they are like a mixture of a browning and a Beretta. I’ve no idea though. I’ve heard them described as the best gun actions going at the moment.
  14. Yeah this is what I thought until someone told me that the 36 bore is a myth from Europe and that the .410 is actually roughly 67 bore.
  15. 20 bore or 28 bore much preferred to 410. Those two calibers can take many loads which are either much lighter than 12 bore loads all the way up to very similar loads for game. Also, they are much lighter and smaller guns. 410 is effectively a 67 bore or something around that so you are at a real disadvantage with one of those compared to a 20 which is not really at any real disadvantage to a 12. However, 410 guns are still very capable - just don’t have the versatility of 20/28.
  16. I’d look at these if I were you as well. And if you’re stretching your budget to 5000 for the crown the hand engraved models of Chapuis are outstanding value at a little more than 5000. They make a proper bespoke gun - just for what you requested and they look great. However, they don’t have the “name” that browning do. Although Chapuis have many dealers in the UK, the huge range of spares, and second hand options the big names have, are an advantage - but you’ll spend much more to get a beretta or browning which looks like one of these.
  17. Yeah really rate the fiochii 20b game cartridges as well. The 28 grams of 5 are the heaviest recoiling 20 I’ve shot but still not excessive and they are very hard hitting and quick cartridges. Great for these later season pheasants!
  18. I personally wouldn’t bother on a modern gun. As long as you use the gun quite regularly your firing pins and springs will last many years- probably decades and will cost less than £100 to replace. Don’t think snap caps will really have any effect on the lifetime really anyway.
  19. 28 and 20 are both very good guns, particularly as “second guns.” They are good enough for almost all shooting that we do - particularly 20. I reccomend both calibers a lot but I’d say get a 20 if they can handle it. Although you could get some really nice second hand 28’s for good value (particularly SxS).
  20. I buy clay cartridges at the clay grounds but it costs £1 more per box normally.
  21. What would you say the lifetime of Howard leights is? Would they survive a few seasons occasional pheasant shooting?
  22. I recommend the Bettinsoli junior guns - great little guns - better quality than most of the other competitors on the market but a bit more expensive.
  23. I’m not planning on putting 40 grams through my 20. 30 grams should do me nicely. 👍🏻
  24. Ok thanks. I’ll need more than confidence to hit anything! I don’t get recoil through my over under with 30 grams but wouldn’t like to try 40 grams!
  25. Ah ok. Can’t be doing with that - no excuse for a miss 😱
