I did predict this some time back, but i've heard today the British Game Alliance are looking at setting up a shooting version of the Red Tractor Scheme. Anyone on here that has any knowledge of the farming version will know it is probarbly another nail for the coffin for game shooting,

Please don’t think that BGA, BASC, etc have interest in anything other than ripping every penny out of shooting that they can, whilst they can…

I used to use a set of Kahles binoculars when I was deer stalking. They were excellent, but far to good to leave in the cupboard. I sold them and bought the Hawke ones. Obviously not as good, but, for the money, I was more than happy.

Definitely good for the money, the only issue I have with baker, and I have/had a bunch of their stuff, is how much I’ve had to rely on warranty ?.

Bought my wife a pair of Hawke a few years ago now and they are as good if not better than my Swarovs.  Worth a look but may be a bit more than you are budgeting for.

Sorry to hear about the Defender loss.

Which models? My hawke (nature trek) are absolutely no where near my swaro el, like comparing apples with formula 1 cars

  4. Superb! The river cottage book has some good recipes and you don’t need to add nitrite (Prague/cure1) if you don’t want to, builds a good base to experiment from.  However the point you make about vac packing is a ‘Game changer’ and I’d fully recommend this, so much simpler and less messy.

I have a Bradley cold and hot smoker and it’s superb, couldn’t recommend it enough

Why didn't they suggest that anything entering the commercial food chain is shot with steel or whatever non tox.  As opposed to an outright ban on all live quarry. I can't see much point in shooting crows with non toxic shot as no one eats them, and as for any game I've shot I'm not going to worry about lead too much either.

After shotguns it will no doubt creep to airguns.

I think some of the shift is a concern about carrion feeders and BOP being poisoned.

I already use steel, and have been doing so for years, but I still use lead for the majority of my shooting.
There are many shooters who will stockpile lead for whatever reason, but if some continue to use it after its been banned for live quarry, who is going to know?
It isn’t going to be banned for trap ( yet ) so it’s not like it won’t be available.
Let’s face it, there is a lot of non compliance regarding the shooting of fowl with steel, but how many have been prosecuted?

Do you worry that continuing to use lead will be paraded by opposing bodies to hasten shootings demise?  Do you perhaps think that being a renegade endangers shooting for all? How do you feel about people who continue to shoot and persecute raptors?

Knocks in rugby too were expo as part of playing, but as players get fitter more muscular and faster the injuries sustained are like car crash victims. Hence the head traumas are coming to light more.

Good point, when Johna Lomu arrived he was the exception,  now the norm... one of the collisions yesterday knocked maro itoje back about 2Metres, must have like being hit by a car ...

I don’t think I’ll be losing any sleep over cordless tools! If anyone decides to break in, they’ve got to do it unseen, then get past the dogs 🙂 then cut into it as quietly as possible ( if they happen to have a cordless angle grinder on them!) then get out unseen. 🙂

Not just cordless tools, for those that know these cabinets may as well be biscuit tins.. presumably your dogs eat sausages? Getting out is simpler with guns... Don’t underestimate the ruthlessness of these scumbags...

  8. That’s the thing, portable tools have improved so much and cabinet regs are not keeping up.. Don’t forget that scum bags don’t  care about how much the grade 5 wood will make it worth and so it that’s gets knocked they won’t care, it will still make a good noise and a big hole in someone ..

All interesting analysis however we were discussing killing a burglar rather than defending yourself from an attacker. I don’t believe anyone contests that you can defend yourself from attack with proportionate (incl lethal) force. I believe it is morally just to kill a burglar, regardless of immediate mortal danger. I wouldn’t however because I believe it to be illegal.

I agree, if you attack someone’s home then you should expect limitless consequences, the law doesn’t see it that way.

  10. I think it’s just so they can accept help from other emergency services without jumping through so many hoops, anywhere with any kind of population density must be struggling
