How’s it going? Not seen any results posted from your Swedish wizardry ?

I'm having a shroud with internal baffler fitted so I've only been up at a friends farm plinking but when I get her back I shall post my very first groupings regardless of how good they are, or not lol

Can do PP. Problem is that it is a moderator so must be delivered by special courier or hand-to-hand, which will add cost, at least petrol. Come back if you don't fancy the shroud option.

Ok fair point, my local rfd doesn't charge anything to receive anything gun related, I'm in Cornwall, not sure your location?

  3. I'm going to add a mod, probably a Huggett Belita, when I go hunting for the first time I'll check the sound but it is fairly quiet anyway to be fair, the scope is a cracker, Optisan EVX 3-12x44ir, absolutely love it, as soon as I zero I'll send pics, beware this is my 1st air rifle so ? expect too tighter groups but I'll try my best.

  4. At last got the FX and I'm very happy, and I'm more happier that I adjusted the scope for sighting in etc, taking her out to a friends farm on Wednesday to zero and plink a little and then to the range on Thursday, super super happy. ?

  5. Hey guys, quick update on my perilous journey into buying my first Air gun, basically was waiting for an FX Crown, viewed back and reflected on what a lot of you Gus said, especially from a few of you guys (you know who you are) and as ASI were being a massive pain over the crown especially I've decided on a Wildcat MKII in .177, synthetic stock and buying very local to me as well, I'm adding an Optisan 3-12x44 scope and cannot be happier.  If anyone knows whats best to add a sling/bipod then please let me know, was thinking of adding a pic rail, or may just opt for the single swivel stud for bipod and attach a sling to that when out in the field, got a perm set up as well in a few weeks after several tins of pellets used on the range, I've got a tin of JSB test tin, has anyone had experience with the smooth twist barrel and what it prefers? ?

So to be fair. If you are shooting by day only .most people set there modest scopes (3-9  4 -12 x  ) at one parrelax  setting . (With either the ao .or sf .  See explanation above ) and leave it for most of there shooting .i set mine at my zero distance .so for a ..22 sub 12 that would be 25 yds .or a fac  40 or 45 yds.

This should provide enough image clarity to see your targets on max zoom for most your hunting ranges .so from say 15 - 50 yds .

If you want to shoot close range 8 yd rats .your nit gonna be using max zoom .of 12 x.most likely minimum  .of 3x .so as dof .increases with reduced mag .you still wont need to adjust your ao /sf .

So a simple 3-9x40 non ao scope that you can easily reset your self to your preferred distance .177 - 30 /35 yds .

    Would be sufficent .

Now if you want to pop a nv add on to the scop.then the ao /sf. Will definatly help .as the above advice goes out the window .nv has an inherently narrow dof.and often. You need to refocus just to see an image clearly .5 yds different from another. .

Ps also the Nv messes with the focus distances set during the day and shortens them (strangely )

just wondering if you've used an app called Strelok before, bit like chair gun but simpler apparently.

Enjoy your purchase, I'd also be interested in how it performs. Some pictures and some shooting videos wouldn't go a miss either :good: I'd like to see it in action.

    I only have 1 air rifle an AA S410 .22 sub 12flb.

I have 2 air pistols (thinking of making it 3) we shoot practical air pistol at my club.

I have various rimfire and fullbore:good: (not sure where this will stop)

Shot the AA s510 tdr yesterday and absolutely loved the gun, surprisingly the stock too, and that mag is great to use too, probably better than any other mag I have certainly used imho

Just read all of this and feeling a little inferior now with my two daystates

I thought they were ok till now.

Good luck with the new gun.

On that not today I tried a huntsman regal having never liked the traditional beech or walnut stocks, I absolutely loved the gun, light easy to shoot and very accurate, also tried out the Air Arms S510 TDR, very nice and very unique being able to "together" the gun before you shoot, both really nice guns.

FAC air ranger 40fpe (22) and a sub 12 huntsman (177). The sub 12 for around buildings and in barns the fac for everything else (if i have sticks to shoot off).

shot the regal today, well yesterday now, and fell in love with it, I'm waiting for the Crown another 2 weeks and the guys at local club are great in letting me shoot some of their different guns but I cant wait that long tbh, may pull the trigger on the regal or s510 tdr to keep me going:)

unless you NEED the TDR functionality i wouldnt bother. i had a 410 TDR and i eventually sold it and bought a standard s410. I thought it would be really cool to have a gun that took apart but in the end it became a hassle to take out of its bag and then re assemble to out in the safe. The 410 and 510 ( i own both) are really superb guns but unless you need to be able to take the gun down i would get a standard ( and of the 2 i would get a  510 as the side lever is faster)

    Q

That's actually a really good shout, but it is a lot lighter, shorter than most other pcp's for when I get to use it around a farm, carrying it around for a few hours too, but again the shot count is pretty low but as an hunting rifle this should be plenty, and of course as you've said, the ability to "together" the rifle before you shoot is a cool idea, even if it is a novelty.:good:

The piston doesnt hit the breech (or transfer port end of the compression chamber) at all .

Or rather it doesnt on the first stroke of the piston .it bounces off the the air cushion its just compressed .then it may bounce a second time slightly on the second compression of air .before finally coming to rest against the breech  /tp .end .

When the pellet exits depends on many factors .not least weight of the pellet and the friction it has in the barrel .

I hard, tight ,heavy pellet (bis mag ) will definatly exit the (long barrel ?)  During the surge phase  ( when the piston is going backwards and the gun now forwards and barrel downwards ) But  a lighter softer not tight pellet (falcon acc plus ) should exit during the first recoil phase (short barrel )

Often leading to better accuracy from these pellets as the gun has basically jumped around less .

I virtually always shoot falcons from my springers.

    Slight revision .

A piston can slam into the tp end.IF  the transfer port is so wide as to allow all the air out and not be compressed .

This would obviously lead to a bery slow pellet and a knackered gun in 3 shots .

Start with a pcp .enjoy it .

Then when you want a challenge or want to get better .and be a great shooter .Buy  a hw or a bsa or an airarms sringer (not gas ram )

And be the master of your craft .

I was just gonna say that, start with a pcp then challenge myself with a springer and see where I'm at..:good:

In a pcp .you aim and pull the trigger .the small spring pushes  the hammer forward(slight recoil )  and the air is released further pushing( recoil) the gun backwards .the pellet then exits the sight picture stays the same .the end .

    In a springer.

You aim. pull the trigger .the the huge spring pushes the heavy piston forward the gun recoils backwards the barrel goes upwards . The pellet starts to move .the piston bounces off the cushion of  air sendingvthe gun forwards (surge ) . (Barrel twists and drops ) then then the pellet exits .Your site picture has now changed.

How  and where you hold the gun during all this bouncing around depends on where the muzzle is pointing when the pellets exits it .

Keep the hold consistent and it should be the same place each time

I just find shooting with a magazine is easier and simpler but I also like cocking a springer and the whole loading idea is great but for me gets tedious very quickly. But agree totally on shot count, I don't half go through some pellets and that's only shooting a members gun with me being respectful.

I’ve had all sorts of air rifles/pistols over the years, my main gun now Air Arms S410, I also have a BSA Air Sporter, had that for about 50 years, I also had a .177 “Jelly”?? with open sights, when I was a nipper I could shoot the balls off a gnat with it at 30 yards, my question is (and it might be obvious to some) how does a springer improve their shooting skills?

This is what bugs the **** outa me when people say that cos I'm new, it makes no difference other than it has ever so slightly more recoil, so yes I get the point but it's not gonna make anyone a better shooter. this is my opinion anyway and having shot both kinds over the last month or so, maybe also to do with the fact that you take your eye off the target every time obviously, but my eye isn't always on the target shooting a pcp anyway....

not allowed to suggest he gets a springer he gets upset, even though it would help massively, read an article a while back that said exactly that, everyone should still own a springer because shooting a pcp is far too simple? Made me think.

and there he is again, trying to bring people down, a little keyboard warrior comes out to play, ive had a lot of good advice on here and a lot of ****, and yours sir have been nothing but ****

You'll be needing one with at least Adjustable Objective (AO) or Side Focus (SF) that will ideally focus down to about 10 yards if you propose to use NV at ratting ranges on it.

Yes definitely be using in the future NV for ratting and rabbits.

    I've lost count lol.

don't be like that, I love guns, I have GAS seriously, I need to stop looking at the *******, but seriously I cant wait a month until the fx turns up without shooting, and learning of course, fancy going up local club with an fx crown with no clue what I'm doing, lol. gotta get the practice in
