  2. aye we seem to be lucky in the south west ..I metal detect as well as shoot "rough" at present over the years have managed 18 farms for detecting and at the present 10 for shooting all have been acquired by face to face meeting ..tis hard work but you MUST sell yourself but don't be too PUSHY ….Agriculteral contractors are are good source of information as to what farms ,crops are being hit and who owns them ,,as previous comments introduce yourself to keepers offer to beat on shoot days fox drives and roost shoots " beaters day at the season end " my daughter beats but doesn't shoot so she nominates me for her place season end ..farmers and keepers do appreciate an extra pair of eyes around ...choose a quiet time to knock on doors . if a lab or springer dashs out to greet you make it you friend ." do you work your dog?" yes .ok he is a shooting man ..he will have an idea what you want you now have a foot in the door...build on it ..
  3. made the mistake several years ago using my daughters laptop balancing it on a cushion ,,blocked the cooling vents and fried the works .never worked again

  6. used to use hemp twine for making purse nets years ago .it was good to know that unlike nylon nets if you lost a hemp net it would rot away ,,,several years ago there were 100s of acres of opium poppies grown in Hampshire..i believe the by product was oil for the paint trade and seed for the baking industry, often wondered if anyone tried to get the latex from them
  7. many, many many years ago can remember my stepfather getting the pile "hemmoriod" cream tube mixed up with if I remember correctly with the Algipan cream "sort of deep heat" twas the only time I ever saw him in tears...can still see him sat in a bucket of water franticly scrubbing his "donut "tears streaming down his face.
  8. now that is what you call a stock...truly outstanding piece of wood ..love it
  9. long in the butt ..double handed salmon rod ?? hand a few beauties through my hands over the years ..one was a Hardy Perfection (mint) made good money on that..another from a junk shop turned out to have been made by one of the top American rod makers ..that went to a vet in Cumbria ,thought I had overpriced it,, he damn nigh snatched my hand off .
  10. shelf in your lavatory !!!.....seems I am not alone in having a read with yer keks round yer ankles....my maid gives me grief if I leave too many books in there
  11. friend of mine was out this morning with his missus dog walking on the stubble fields near where I found the dumped pigeon ..and yes under the hedge bordering the stubble was a large amount of pigeon bodies .his wife was most disgusted ..if they cannot use the birds at least take them to the council tip ,tis only 2 miles from where this is happening .
  12. has anyone tried local cat or dog rescue /boarding centres or even wildlife parks ..zoos etc
  13. not pointing any fingers but I do have a vague idea who it might be ...
  14. just got back from walking the dogs..the same as last year ,,someone is shooting pigeons and dumping the carcases in a ditch bordering the wood ...
  15. don't know the temp here .I am sat here with my feet in a bucket of ICE and water ,,I don't do heat ..its always easier to warm up than cool down..promised my lad and the daughters fella a pop over fresh stubble this evening ..aint looking forward to it ..can see me ending up as a pile of bones and slack skin surrounded by a fatty puddle.
  16. obtained a couple of ct 20s last night according to the eley specs ct20 21grm felt is powered by csb5 ,,broke 2 down this morning the charges weighed in at 14.5+14.6 so my load aint that far out ..tried 2 over the barley yesterday ..first as a scarer ,,2nd at a cushtie …....result it really made it fly a bit faster I am sure it did

    Gin

just prefer home made sloe gin or a good single malt ...have 2 litres of sloe in the cupboard its now 3 years old and the most regal colour to it when held up to the light..almost a shame to bottle it
  18. when I lived up north I had a rough shoot over semi moorland twas near gisburn ..the hares were quite a problem on the pasture fields I used a 222rem on them ..55 grain home load incredibly accurate round head shots every time ...I can remember when I drove for the MMB , driving through the Gisburn Park estate and seeing literaly 100s of hares laid out after they held the estate annual hare shoot ..in the old days mothers hare stew...hare pie and roast saddle of hare were a regular item on the table
  19. nice little buck...we don't shoot the hares round my area they are few and far between ..took a friend out metal detecting the other week we put up 2 in a small field he remarked that they were the first he had seen for many a year ..last year on the same farm I watched 2 bucking ,,had quite forgotten the antics they got up to
  20. are they being a bit ****y?? could understand it if you were over your quota ..what about the homeloaders you can buy everything apart from primers over the counter ..would they be counting you primers to verify the amount you have/use ..if true seems a bit dracoanian
  21. just got a beam scale "didn't trust the electric scale I use for weighing coins" checked my powder throw weight 13.8 grains not too bad ..the shot bushing at 7/8 throws 22.5 grms at seven and a half size ..fettled the bush to throw a tad below 20 grms now..just to be on the safe side..all else is as per PESTCONROL,s post..i did shoot a 40 bird sporting charity event several weeks ago using 14 grns behind 22.grms all seemed ok but to err on the safe side I will use the "modified" loading until the csb3 arrives ..I think the shot bushing was throwing over weight because the smaller shot size provided more bulk ie less airspace surrounding the pellets than would have been if larger shot were used
  22. thought there was ..I noticed eley hawk load with csb 5 as well cheers for that
  23. any of you homeloading gurus out there have any knowledge re csb5 for 20 bore ,,, fes used to have a load but tis no longer on their website thinking of 3/4--7/8 oz loads .have a tub of this powder for the 12 ,,but could I use this until a tub of csb3 arrives cheers
