  1. Hi all thank you for your thoughts, we currently have no Grey's at all on the shoot, I have 28 ex layers and 11 two week old pouts. I have another 12 coming in two weeks. Very exciting. I have just rented some grass land and god willing I will be rearing approximately 1500 next year. No layer boxes just good old grass and bantams
  2. evening all, I have just started a program to reintroduce grey partridge back in to an area in Northamptonshire, very lucky as the land we shoot is ideal habitat. I have spoken with the rest of the guns and we are not shooting them at all until they are at a level that warrants taking a few, we have started with 28 adults and I also have chicks which are currently being reared by Bantam, I have a contact in the local area who is mad keen on Grey's and he has been very successful. I was wondering if anyone else has had much success with Grey partridge?
  3. Been out every night, I have been speaking them had three in three nights, trap has produced nothing but speaking them in to the shotgun is exciting and effective.
  4. Happy to contribute, would like some advise just built a pen for pheasants, done all I can on the pen to stop foxes getting in, I do not have a rifle just a show gun, set a live trap but nothing as yet (been set for 4nights) I have set up a high seat to sit out and wait for foxes, got a speaker etc. Hints and tips more than welcome please.
  5. Yeah I get that I was just looking to settle them in get them used to the wood then open the netting after 4 or 5 days going to give it a try if they are two unsettled I will remove the existing netting.
  6. Thank you for your reply, i have also got a high seat/platform situated between both pens. I do not have a rifle liecence so imwas planning on baiting and shooting the foxes with a 12G. What are your thoughts on the half netting of the pen?
  7. Good evening I am a new member I have been lucky to get two fab pieces of land for a small friendly walked up shoot, question is, there is an existing small pen which we will put some exlayers in but i have built a new pen approx 100 meters around. I have put 7ft fences up and netted half the pen to stop flying attacks, I am planning on keeping the poults in the netted area for 7 to 10 days. I will then lift the side netting to allow them to get in to the rest of the pen and they will be able to get out and back in via pop holes. I just want to give them plenty of protection and allow them to settle. i have got 3ft of turned out wire fencing at the base, wire netting turned out at top of posts to stop climbers, two standards of electric wire running around the out side, fen traps set up and four live traps baited for foxes. i would welcome your thoughts on the netting of the pen and any further suggestions for a passionate newbee., cheers.
