😆 My Baikal actually did Just wear out. When the action was opened it half closed again and extracting the spent cartridges was difficult without holding the barrels and the stock open. There were other issues. I took it to a gunsmith who said it was not worth the cost of the repairs. I did buy a cheap SXS but it is choked 1/2 and a tight 3/4.! Too much of a challenge for me. I really need 1/4 & 1/2.

Surprised no one has snapped this up yet. Just a bit too far from Maidstone for me to nip out without the wife knowing what I'm up to. -
Hi. I had a look. "BIRCHWOOD CASEY T&S BERETTA A400 XCEL SHELL CATCHER" I is only for one cartridge so useless if you are using two or more at the same time. It is also £32.90 +post. I experimented with an electromagnet. But by the time you have a powerful enough magnet and a battery wired to an on off switch it's much easier to pretend you have a bad back and get your shooting partner to puck up for you. 🤡

Update. Last night while investigating the Ejector problem, the ejector mechanism in the forfend jammed ! So I took the gun back today😒 Thank you to all of you who offered advise. My project has failed at the first hurdle but as they say "Lessons have been learned" Cheap guns are nothing but trouble.

Thank you to everyone. Lots of useful information. This project is a bit like gambling. Dont bet more than you can afford to lose. This is something I have wanted to do for...40 years but never had the time or nerve. If it all goes south, so be it. I have discovered that the other Ejector is binding and jamming the one that is damage. So I am investigating why. As I say, if it all goes terribly wrong it is not the end of the Earth. I have taken onboard lots of your suggestions and will hope to try re bluing, chequering and stock refinishing. If it ever all comes together I will post it here. ( But dont hold your breath) Thank you all.

Hi. I have been a member of Pigeon watch for many years and have enjoyed the content greatly. However, I have never had a lot to say, and my knowledge of Guns and shooting are minimal, so I don’t comment. I only shoot clays but have owned many different guns both O/U Semi-auto and S/S. Now I need help please. Today I purchased an old generic shop named Spanish S/S for only £95. I thought it could be a project for the winter. I have never had a gun to pieces before and have already hit a couple of snags. One of the Ejectors is damaged and I either need to repair it or renew it. Are the Ejectors on old cheap Spanish guns interchangeable and where can I source one from? The bores are ok, but the chambers are a bit rusty. I have whizzed a bronze brush around, and the rust is cleaning off but is there a compound I can safely use to help clean the rust off? I want to strip it down but cannot get the action off the stock. I could grind a screwdriver down to fit he screws I suppose but is there a generic screwdriver I can buy to do the job as all my screwdrivers are too thick for the slot or too narrow to fill the slot and give a good purchase. This is probably a one-time restoration, but I would like to bring this old gun up to a decent standard instead of turn it into a large paperweight. Any help or information would be appreciated except for (Don’t do It )as I have already started🤡

Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus Max.5 12 gauge

Well yes. I have done some sums on this. It works out that I have notionally saved £166 by having stop start over 17,300 miles. The cost of the battery brings that down to between £131 and only £42. That is because my wife has an almost identical but older car to mine but without Stop Start. The battery on this car is going strong and showing no sign of needing to be changed. There is also the matter of future wear and tear. Only time will tell. The up side is there is a C02 saving of 224 kg's but the life usage of the battery is 80 kg so a net saving of 144 kg's

As I understand it. If you have a pre-selector Auto. Box and it is engaged but the car is stationery. Without stop start the clutches will be wearing out. However I find when the engine restarts, there can be a big jolt which is probably causing damage to the rest of the drivetrain. I have also just had to fit a new Stop Start battery at a cost of £124 instead of £85 for a non Start Stop engine in only 3 1/2 years. So the extra cost of ownership for me has outweighed any fuel saving and with battery manufacture and disposal costs, has wiped out any C02 savings.
