  1. I find the Shot Kam fascinating although not cheap or instant, I haven't got one but I like the thought of analysing the footage after a shoot. They are not permitted in competitions.
  2. The law will allow a person, without a certificate, to borrow a shotgun or rifle on private premises and use that firearm in the presence of the lender or other person authorised in writing.
  3. that's what usually happens to me, combines!! although there was a time when a couple of us were carp fishing, the opposite bank was open to the public and there was a couple enjoying the sunshine. Things got a little out of hand as he risked sunburn on the bum. Things didn't stop there as they walked onto a bridge, she was leaning forward onto the parapet while he got busy from the rear. All very distracting!
  4. I saw literally thousands on Monday in Hampshire, three of us ended up with 190. T'was a good day for me, I hardly had time to pick up between 12 and 2:00pm. They were on old barley stubble.
  5. I like No. 3 he is frozen mid-step. Were these taken in one of the London parks? I went to Bushy park one autumn with my camera - best to arrive early for all the roaring and shenanigans

Lucky you for the Vultures AND slugs (cats,) the Carp were spawning when we went and the cats were just chomping on them - easy prey. I caught a small one, hooked and lost two or three biggies because of the razor mussels and caught quite a few common carp. My mate caught a 99 pounder and that was our lot.
  7. Years ago I used to fish at a reservoir which is surrounded by a pine forest, I was there all hours and was surprised at the numbers of people who came through with their baskets looking for mushrooms, they were nearly all Polish. This was before every man and his dog started picking everything in sight for sale to posh restaurants. I developed an interest from talking to the Polish people and went out on a couple of "fungus forays" with a guide, to learn the basics, this was more reliable than learning from books in my opinion.

Oh Hoopoes! I once spent a week fishing on the river Ebro in Spain, there were Hoopoes everywhere, their call was quite haunting. Also fairly common were Storks, Golden Orioles and Little bitterns, they made my week because the catfish weren't coming out to play.

Don't forget that they have to be made of Silk for the aristocracy
  10. I was quite keen at one time, the photo shows a good day's haul from around 8 years ago, the wood where I used to find the Boletes was "harvested" and is now a gravel pit so that was the end of that. I still take one Giant Puffball every year and would take a few Boletes if I came across them.
  11. We just half fill a Kilner jar with strawberries, add 6oz sugar and top up with Vodka - strain off after a couple of months, adjust sweetness and bottle. It smells delicious and will be deep pink. It's a big hit with the ladies on shoots if you can bear to part with any
  12. I would still expect to find white bullaces now, they can still be found after first frosts
  13. I was going to say that Bullaces are green but apparently there is a purple variant too.
  14. That's Laurel, all parts of the plant, including the fruit are poisonous
  15. The ultimate, you know I'm right!
  16. They look like Parasol Mushrooms to me - check the info below and make your own mind up. Said to be edible and good but in my experience a bit insipid, depends how you cook them. There are plenty around at the moment, I have seen dozens over the last couple of weeks, they are getting past their best in the south but you may still find good ones. As I said before, check the caps for maggots http://www.gallowaywildfoods.com/parasol-mushroom-edibility-distribution-identification/
  17. If this is your first time, slice them and check for maggots which can enter at the root, go up the stem into the cap
  18. Fair point (may be Death Cap, Destroying Angel or some such) but I was relating to the ones in the photo which have pink/brown gills.
  19. Our oilseed rape yields were poor this year due to flea beetle, we were not allowed to use Neonicotinoids (rightly) and this is was the outcome.
  20. As the guide says - avoid any that stain yellow when bruised or that smell of ink when broken.
  21. all ours are Melanistic this year, it's nice to see a few but boring in their hundreds. They are supposed to be good fliers, I'll let you know on beater's day

I used a couple in my angling days, 5 turn grinner for braid, Half blood for Mono and figure 8 for loops. These days a granny does as well as anything. I did go through a phase of making lanyards for dog whistles where a bosun's knot was used and this (also in a spiral variant) (robbed from the internet, thanks to the owners of the photos)
  23. Yes, BB - it's as good as it sounds. I think my wife tried Raspberries which were nice but Strawberry Vodka is to die for - very moreish, it doesn't last long. I don't see why not, we open our jars to taste and adjust sweetness. It won't go off because sugar and alcohol are both preservatives. Let it steep until it tastes OK then remove it.
