  1. It would make more sense to be able to enter the information online yourself and not worry too much about the paper version. Database needs to be accurate, not the piece of paper you hold. I know the law, written prior to the modern internet, does not agree, but I can dream.
  2. Defintely sounds like the kind of thing. Will PM you
  3. Indeed, I confess I don't understand the pessimism on here. Plenty of young folk taking up shooting according to my social media, not to mention my on my straw baler and DIY syndicate. If the only media you consume is broadcast TV news, and are at your local clay ground mid-week, then unsurprisingly you're not going to see young shooters. And yet still, for all the times you've reposted it, you still don't understand BASC didn't call for a ban. Albeit, their PR was atrocious, as you and many others still think a call for a voluntary transition over 5 years amounts to calling for a ban. I'm not entirely sure how one of the value of a high end marque UK gun is any sort of indicator of the future of shooting as a sport either. Those top end guns were only ever coveted by a small minority of shooters, most of which are firmly in the 'boomer' generation (or older) and thus the market is inevitably shrinking. So yes, stop re-posting this. If you have your guns as some sort of capital investment, then now would be a bad time to sell. If you have them to use and enjoy, stick with them. Have you got a source you could provide a link to, to back up that assertion?
  4. Indeed, I'm not even sure the SGC is in 2 parts per se. Certainly not my experience. A reprint is a reprint. And the definition of a few days is....variable, last time I requested one it took them 2.5 weeks
  5. Just a warning some RFD’s might refuse to do this, Holts wouldn’t when I was in the same situation. As I posted elsewhere, the important thing is notifying the police (preferably using the online form) ASAP. What’s written on your certificate must match their records but is of secondary importance. Also, were you not mid-renewal, the answer would be to call the licensing team and request a re-print, explaining your certificate table is full. But personally I’d do as advised.
  6. Long shot I know, but is anyone looking to move on a larger (6 gun or greater) cabinet on in the Somerset/Devon/Bristol area? Obviously would be willing to collect, not going to make you try to ship it!
  7. When you tell your local force you sold/given a gun, the system will generate a reference number for you. The Avon and Somerset system will even generate a little PDF for you of the details to download and keep. Your force my vary, of course. This is why I tell people to use the online form as opposed to letter or sending an email. You get a reference number at the end of a (nominally) completed process. Unlike say an email, which is sent in plain text (readable by anyone in the middle), and disappears into a black hole. As for letters, plenty of threads on that. Rebel without a cause, me. But the wonderful thing about pencils is, you can use an eraser. If we're brutally honest, in 2024, what's written on your certificate is of secondary importance to what the NFLMS database thinks you have.
  8. And you sir are why I'll be working till my 80s, and you're probably retired. Honestly would never have occurred to me, nor would I have considered it worth my time. Which, for anyone below the age of 50, is a bit like asking them to boycott the milliners, the milkman or the dry cleaners. It doesn't figure on their radar, it isn't used. PO's will disappear. Signed for/Special delivery or whatever is pointless, and as for sending packages there's a whole host of options. Including your postman (so Royal Mail rather than the post office) collecting them from your doorstep. I mean, any excuse for a pint and all, but what fiendishly complex task were you trying to entrust your local PO with? Reminds me of this
  9. I’m confused as to why people are still bothering to pay extra for signed for /special delivery. Firstly, it hasn’t been “a thing” since the Covid madness. Secondly, it only draws attention to the letter anyway. Just post in regular mail. Obtain proof of posting if it makes you feel better.
  10. Doubt anyone will care. Just write the date sold & the transfer ref number in pencil next to it. Life’s too short.

This would be the FBI who ordered social media companies to suppress the Hunter Biden Laptop story? This is not some conspiracy theory, Zuckerberg has testified to this effect before a senate committee. The FBI shouldn't be interfering in elections because a story is inconvenient for their preferred candidate. The FBI who is keep lists of parents who speak against the latest ideaology* at PTA meetings? We are sure we're not looking for accountability to the executive branch? Back on topic, Biden was telling potential voters to 'send him to congress' at the weekend. Except he's running for president. You wouldn't trust him to look after your dog, let alone watch the kids. * J. Edna Hoover's legacy lives on, clearly. 🤣

So....basically, it's Draining the Swamp 2.0, only this time there's a vague plan. It should be stated that Wikipedia is about as reliable a guide as any manifesto, and anyone quoting either source as some kind of marker of what will happen is either dishonest or naïve. Indeed; I have no clue how you combat that, other that is than being Labour, and trying to implement mostly the same policies. I did once posit on here that the NHS would magically improve the day labour gets into power, despite the fact they will not have had time to implement anything, because all the activists employed by the NHS will suddenly start doing their jobs when the 'evel torreees' are gone.
  13. I suggest that thinking is somewhat dated. Yes, Tony Blair realised elections were won in the centre, and dragged labour towards it, and thundered to 3 GE victories (including, those with short memories forget, one after Iraq). However, New Labour was still recognisably of the left. Whatever the current Tories are, they aren't conservative. The 'unaparty' must be disbanded, and quickly. Even a chancellor who reigns in HMRC's avariciousness would be a start - colossal acts of self-harm that end up costing the taxpayer: taxing private landlords out of existence, red diesel, taxing chinese tourists to the hilt, Pick ups and now the non-doms thing. Nail on the head. Who green-lit this insanity? Sunak, and somehow he became PM.
  14. Er, no. Imagine how many byelections there'd be in Diane Abbott's constituency. Frankly he's doing the tax payer a favour given that there'll be a general election very soon anyway. Despite what he said. And those wondering whether he'll be re-elected. I'm going to guess yes. Yes he will be.
  15. He's now been both cheeks of the same backside, to mis-quote Galloway, and that'll make the third party he's represented. If only Reform had any actual policies. As far as I can tell, they have no plans to reform anything. Their leader is far too enthusiastic about continuing the proxy war in Ukraine too.

I think the Dems are finally starting to 'get' it, now even CNN or MSNBC are reporting on his cognitive issues. Trouble is, who do they replace him with? Hillary? - Nope electoral kryptonite Kamala - Even worse Newsom -A lot of Dems outside the Republic of California think he's too much Michelle Obama - A step too far even for political-dynasty loving US, surely? Also has zero experience in elected office.
  17. Welcome to PW. What cartridges are you (attempting) to put through it? I've had this before on my Hatsan with light clay loads when the gas port is a bit dirty. No issue with heavier pigeon loads though. So, I made sure to give the port on the barrel a going over with an old toothbrush and some appropriate cleaner, and had no issues subsequently. I'm not familiar with the Bullpup variant, but I assume it's the same mechanism as all other Escorts. It's now quite a mature design and will cycle lighter loads, but will never be as good as some of the higher end gas-driven semis or the inertia driven ones.
  18. Nope, still can't work out why this is so important to you. Your argument is with the modern world, not BASC. QED. I have my own issues with BASC, but IMO OF's complaint doesn't quite reach the levels of ridiculousness that 'the BASC tie is not as good as the WAGBI tie' thread does, but it comes a close second. Conor as a representative of the organisation he works for must remain polite. I am not so encumbered, other than remaining within this forum's AUP. Therefore I respectfully suggest you get out more.
  19. At a guess, this is because BASCs email server sends emails out in blocks of, say, 10000 at a time, in order to avoid being flagged as a spam server. Whatever the reason, I’m honestly struggling to understand your issue? Assuming for a minute my reasoning is correct, doing things the other way round, viz. waiting 24h or so till emails to all members were sent, before posting anything on socials, would these days result in far more complaints of BASC seeming to be unresponsive.
  20. And miss the last month of the season and roost shooting?! I'd definitely agree that those who try to jet between blighty and a foreign bolt-hole seem to be neither fish nor fowl and are spending inordinate amounts of time and money going between the 2 and/or trying to maintain 2 properties. If you're gonna do it, move there full time, immerse yourself into the lingo and culture. Do not ever utter the phrase "In England we do it this way...."
  21. Ok, that's the coolest work-related post on this thread so far, but you might not have thought so at the time! Obviously @Scully and @39TDS's shenanigans are deserving of prizes for expert swordsmanship. Personally I was 2 years old, so presumably struggling to master the potty and basic speech (still struggling with both if I'm honest). If this thread was about 2004, though, I'm sure I too would be exercising the forum swear filter with my own tales of horizontal refreshment.
  22. As has been stated you need to consider the extinguisher as part of your overall evac/fire plan. Fire extinguisher really should be on the landing so it's available for everyone to use. By the time the smoke alarm wakes you (You do have working ones fitted don't you?), it's likely the fire will be too big to be tackled by an extinguisher anyway, so it will be be a case of the old maxim: Get out, Get the fire brigade out, stay out. Excellent tips there. I'd caution against charging any li-ion batteries of size (e.g. power tool batteries or vapes, or even 18650s for your NV) near an exit, and certainly not on a book case or something else flammable. Relevant for shooters too is where you store your ammo, specifically shotgun carts. I do currently have some stored underneath the stairs, which isn't ideal as those stairs represent the primary escape route. Of course, by the time the fire is hot enough to start affecting cartridges you're either outside or dead from smoke inhalation, but nevertheless I will move them. Also, someone mentioned chip pan fires. If you're still using a chip pan in 2024, sorry, but have a word with yourself.
  23. Certainly would echo the above that inverter welders don't seem to suffer same issue the old transformer machines did. That is the in-rush current on startup could cause the fuse in the plug top to pop or even the breaker to trip. I'm no stick welder, but what little I have done with an inverter machine was certainly far more forgiving than the old Clarke buzz box I had. I will say though, if you get into it, it is worth wiring up a 16 amp blue ('caravan') socket to power the welder for the occasions when you do have to turn the welder up to 11.
  24. I sense a moderator's paw hovering over the block button... But for the benefit of the confused: Questioning the proportionality of the state of Israel's response to the Oct 7th slaughter = not antisemitic Invoking the 'from river the sea' trope = antisemitic (as it implies the eradication of all Israelis) Invoking said trope then quaffing champagne = antisemitic + chavvy + braindead Thinking either side want a ceasefire = delusional Thinking the UK labour party's stance on same matters at all = absolutely delusional Caring about Charlotte-bluddy-Church's opinion on the middle east = Ummm, turn off your TV set and do something less boring instead.
  25. Not as far as I'm aware; the grants are discrete blocks of funds as it were. So, in my case, they did the internal wall insulation first, took before and after pictures, and claimed for that. Then they did the heat pump, took before and after pics, claimed for funds, and finally the solar. I was offered my choice on all 3. I took all 3. I know you said you didn't want a heat pump. FYI, the reason I accepted was because my house was previously heated with storage heaters. So, I got a complete set of radiators and associated plumbing all fitted, and the heat pump to power it. If for whatever reason the heat pump didn't work out, my thinking was, I could subsequently swap it for an oil boiler or whatever. As it happens, I'm so far happy with the heat pump, it had no issues heating the house to toasty warm during the -5 cold spell. There's an airlock somewhere in the system I keep chasing, that causes it to trip out occasionally; but I suspect that may be self induced as I've temporarily disconnected a rad. Obviously, it might be different in your case, as you said you have a recently fitted oil-boiler and therefore are already piped up with rads/UFH. The lot I used were http://www.consumerenergysolutions.co.uk/ They do get mixed reviewes but all the crews they used to seem to come from just the other side of the bridge so local to you.
