  1. IF there was enough demand for a basic offroad vehicle, it would be made. But there isn't, and manufacturers can't afford to appeal to the second hand buyers.
  2. Apparently the NHS has the money for 800 people engaged in diversity roles, of some kind or another. It is and remains completely unaccountable for its failings. And yes, whilst it receives £184m per day, its medical personnel should be banned from striking. Lack of money is really not the problem with the NHS.
  3. Might be worth asking for a weekend test drive, put some mile on one and see how you feel? The ergonomics on the RHD sounds like a proper howler to me, but then I never found I had issues with elbow room in my Defender, despite the fact everyone else complained about it. I've only sat in a Grenadier at the game fair, but my 5' 9" /1.75m frame didn't seem to struggle. I'd assume that like the aircraft overhead panel concept it's based on, these are only switches you use rarely and not whilst driving at speed - like auxiliary lights. But this is still its undoing. Even with price increases, a modern pickup will do 80% of what this does, for...60% of the money?
  4. I haven't seen the series in questions, but I do remember back in the day occasionally reading about it, especially when I used to read the IT press. I had zero idea of the scale of the convictions, though. Jebus. Who in their right mind thought an organisation such as the PO should have the power to prosecute criminal cases involving theft from itself? Frankly such powers need removing from the RSPCA, but that's a different topic. Perhaps all prosecutions outwith the CPS should be audited immediately following a decision to charge, but prior to the first court date, by a senior CPS barrister. When trying to get ITV player working for someone, I too had issues with programmes showing up on one device but not the other. Had to run numerous updates and power-cycles before the issue was resolved.
  5. Anyone seen the latest PJW video on this? Obviously he's somewhat given to hyperbole, it's how he and every other talking head make their living, but his point being that Prince Andrew et al is nothing more than distraction theatre, and the real story is that 'Eyes Wide Shut' is based on real events, with Epstein at the centre. Thing is, it's harder to dismiss as conspiracy nonsense than it should be; This celebrity obsession with sexualising children and the quest for eternal youth, there has to be something driving it.
  6. Once again; the principle of this is nothing new. The concern is how HMRC will choose to implement this. They do not have a good record of appropriate, proportionate responses to new directives, especially those as a result of international agreements/EU legislation. 'Gold plating' and 'strict enforcement' spring to mind. It will also likely result in those who've spent all their life being PAYE, never had any interaction with HMRC, suddenly having to do a tax return. That's going to be a shock to the system for many. The optics are also completely tone-deaf to the current electoral climate, inflation is still stubbornly going nowhere, and HMRC are hounding ebay sellers and Etsy vendors not making a living out of it. The more you try to push back against the black economy, the more you encourage it. This is basic stuff, but seems everyone from Jeremy Hunt on down hasn't grasped this.
  7. Which programme are you talking about? This isn't a system-level setting and how to change spellcheck settings varies according to whether you're using Word, Chrome, etc. I think you might be getting spell check confused with keyboard layout, which is a system level setting, and appears in the bottom right hand corner in the taskbar. This of course has no influence on spellcheck of Chrome for instance.
  8. Think we'll just have to agree to differ on this one. Usually when @Scully says stop overthinking things, I'm right with him, on this occasion however, I'm more of a Discbob-ist. We'll doubtless see in a year or so's time who's right.
  9. I think Scully you've been lucky till now in dealings with them. The onus is on you to disprove their take on things, oh and by the way, meantime here's a fine for non-payment, and a accruing interest on what you owe us, and interest on the fine. Despite having an accountant and on-time filings, I still had some old battle a...lady knock on my door from HMRC this time last year, bodycam in hand, demanding immediate payment of £17k. Onus was very much on me to prove their mistake. Which was more like £7k and not even due yet! If I'd just said 'prove it', she would've simply moved the investigation forward to court/seizure of assets territory. Ahh the old nothing to hide nothing to fear routine. Suggest you google why that's a text-book logical fallacy. As has been stated, this is total over-reach and will doubtless cost vastly more than it raises, but hey ho. Morally right and all that.
  10. Not entirely sure what you mean by that, but I suspect there's some commercially sensitive stuff they would be unwilling to disclose. Frankly I'd be happy if they just put the the shot size in mm on their packaging so we can get away from this English no 7/ American no 5/ And of course it's different for steel nonsense. It's 2024 after all, the whole world and their wife speaks metric, and even those dinosaurs that don't can probably get their heads round the fact that 3.6 mm is larger than 3.3 mm
  11. We'll see whose version of events is more accurate, @discobob's or @Scully's. Have to say though, my experience of HMRC is more akin to Bob's, viz. guilty until you prove your innocence. Seems like a poor use of government resources all round, really. But then they've relentlessly pursued IR35, even though it has cost the government more money, seems nobody in the treasury has any grasp of cost/benefit analysis.
  12. Nowhere did I advocate for pay cuts. As for managing the public's expectations; the NHS is definitely doing that. It has all but given up preventative medicine, we don't 'do' bloodwork in this country, or health screening apart from a few of the more common cancers. NHS dentistry is the joke that keeps on being not funny. We don't see GP's because we "don't want to bother them". Meanwhile an army of 'public health' professionals cluck and tut at us, whilst the clinically and morbidly obese never pay any sort of penalty for their poor life choices, indeed they seem to jump the queue because they have 'complex needs' It's a thoroughly depressing place to be, and now doctors are going on strike for 6 days because their union has become militantly political. If you're ill, tough, doncha know there are evil torees underfunding us? On top of everything else, there's now a concerted campaign to legalise euthanasia within this organisation. Great. Might as well fill in my DNR now, wouldn't want to be a burden.
  13. Whatever model you get, do yourself and your lads a favour and earth the thing. Generators have no reference to earth and that lug provided on the frame isn't there to look pretty.
  14. I listened yesterday in the truck whilst doing a tip / scrap metal run, so I didn't give it the attention that say @smudger did, with presumably notebook, pen and time stamps handy. Whilst I understand the sentiment that 80-90 % of shooters will be absolutely fine with steel, I do think the tone came across as somewhat dismissive. It's a podcast; you have time to do a deep-dive, no need to say "that's all we've got time for". Anyway, this thread is all rather academic, am sure the HSE will inevitably adopt the precautionary principle (viz. ban everything), while the EU REACH organisation will not. The only question in my mind is how the supply chain issues/ongoing wars will affect the availability of suitable product here.
  15. It's as if they genuinely don't want re-electing. I wonder how much income this will generate them? Or, more realistically, how much less will it be than the staff costs of the inevitable battalion of civil servants they will hire to manage this? Even if there's no prima facia change in the rules around income, the optics of this are terrible given the chicken feed amount in revenue it'll generate. Osborne, Hunt, Sunak, as chancellors all about as conservative as Gordon Brown.
  16. @Marshman My thoughts and sympathies go out to you. We all know if you have a partner, that one of you has to die first - but it doesn’t make it any easier. Back to the matter at hand, It is a purely political strike. The equivalent in Scotland accepted a settlement at less than half the asked for 35% @Lloyd90 ask yourself what it is that other nations do differently that enable them to pay equivalent experience doctors more. The answer, by the way, is demonstrably not throw more money at the problem. Other nations spend less per head on healthcare & get way better outcomes, without sacrificing those who can’t afford healthcare. High time the NHS in its current form was put to sleep.
  17. Indeed, and we should've had a referendum on both Maastricht and Lisbon treaties, as they handed over large amounts of control to the EU. But to the OP's point, so what? Rejoining the EU will involve no rebate, adaption of the Euro, Schengen, and likely no more national veto by the time we rejoin. I wonder how hard Keir will really try to sell that.
  18. Late to the party on this. My ex partner is 5' 10"/1.8 m ish, she started with a Betinsolli 12 bore with a gel pad to raise the comb height slightly. My new partner is closer to 5' 2", she's got a Kofs 20 bore. Most of the 'ladies' guns are lighter actions and a Monte Carlo style stock as ladies tend to have slightly higher cheek bones. The most impressive one I handled when we were looking was actually the ATA ladies version, an ally action and not a bad stock for appreciably less than £800 new. The Beretta Vitoria seemed good too, but as advised go to a shop with an attached clay ground and see what fits. 'Weight' is a funny thing, beginners especially, tend to be given a gun, hold it up for ages, feel the lactic acid building in their muscles, and think the gun is too heavy. This of course reflects neither the reality of use in the field or on the clay ground. I'd also caution against a semi auto, at least one at the cheaper end of the market. In my experience, these struggle to cycle clay loads, and will actually kick more than a slightly heavier pigeon load. Higher end gas system semi autos, or inertia driven ones (so for example a Beretta A400 and a Benelli respectively) tend to be very smooth on the shoulder, and indeed a lot of corporate day instructors use them for this reason. Basically, find a 12bore that fits, albeit the mount will change as she gets more experienced. Travel to a shop with a clay ground if you have to, make a day of it.
  19. Either a plumbing shop with pictures & noted dimensions as has been stated or Bite the bullet & put in 150 mm thermostatic bar mixer. These are now standard dimensions & all the working parts are “external” so can be easily accessed for repair, replacement or overhaul.
  20. And? It makes stuff all difference anyway, not like EU nationals have to take another test if they do swap out their licence for a UK one. In fact they actually get punished by the insurance companies if they do follow the letter of the law because they find their premiums going up as they”haven’t had their licenses very long”. The thought of taking into account the amount of time that an EU licence was held was met with “computer says no” every time I tried. The insurance industry in this country really is the absolute pits.
  21. I do wish someone would produce a hybrid diesel-electric pickup, you would get the best of both worlds, with a motor on each axle, or even in-wheel motors. Most of the time you’d run on battery, and on extended runs or towing, the diesel gen-set would kick in. No waiting around at motorway services to charge at extortionate rates with all the Teslaists either, just make sure both tanks are topped up before you leave, no “range anxiety”. Probably need to advance a couple more generations in battery technology to offset the mass of the battery though.
  22. Risk = Severity x Likelihood Severity of EV fire > > Severity of ICE fire Likelihood of EV fire =< likelihood of ICE fire
  23. Definitely with you on that one. Also make signing off on suicide illegal if grounds presented pertain to economic or mental health factors.
  24. You keep believing that. Somehow the 'system' will prevent this. Everywhere else in the world it's been tried suggests the opposite. Speaking of everywhere else in the world... Literally nowhere else in the world does it like we do, and everywhere else in the developed world has better health outcomes for treatable illnesses than us, whilst costing about the same or less. And don't say 'but muh America', the NHS and the US system are 2 sides of the same coin, no-one else has copied either system.
  25. Get a functioning healthcare system first. Do not shut it down during pandemics. Do not allow all and sundry who haven't paid in to use it. Make it an insurance based system. Discourage obesity with higher premiums to reflect the increased costs it represents. Expect a level of personal responsibility from functional adults. Accept the reality that nothing truly is 'free at the point of use.' Require additional insurance for hair-brained activities like skiing. Once you have the basics in place, you can start to think about curtailing end of life care should quality of life have deterioted. But starting from where the NHS is now, it'll be used to reduce waiting lists. I'm suggesting that in the UK context, that is the lesser of 2 evils. I suspect its happening much more than you realise, because it's by its very nature under-reported. Where? Where is it working? The Canadians are about to sign off on death where it's economically beneficial. The Dutch have had multiple investigations into mismanaged cases. I'm not actually against euthanasia, but sure as hell don't want to give the next Matt Hancock and/or <insert Labour scumbag> any powers over it whatsoever.
