An air rifle becomes too short when its less than 600 mm or 24 inches in old money .

Nothing to do with the barrel length  unless its an fac ..for which 300 mm is min length.

Im sure thats the case regarding rifles which are 2 handed weapons, but the modifications he made caused the police to deem it a 1 handed break barrel air pistol. Which are limited to 6ftlbs, the rifle would not of been below that so i assume was classed as a section 5 prohibited weapon. It ultimatley lead to the guns confiscation with no further action.

No what I mean I’d, if it’s sub 12 then you can reduce it, it sounds dodgy that he had it confiscated, must have been up to something

As far as i found out taking the stock of and taking the barrel below 30" caused it to be classed as an air pistol, which are limited to 6ft lbs.

  3. Just now, PPP said:

Why, and what was he doing with it? No limit on barrel or stock length on sub 12 air rifle, sounds seriously dodge

Apparently it was for pest control in confined spaces, hed taken the barrel to less than 30" which ment it was a pistol and wasnt allowed to be over 6ft lbs. And yeah dodgy as ****.

If the gun shop gives you the gun back having identified it’s over limit you’ll both be in the Pooh, deliberate possession of an unlicensed firearm (deliberate as you enhanced performance) could result in an accidental holiday

I know of someone that sawed the barrel and the stock down on a legal limit air rifle and all he got was if confiscated...needless to say its getting sorted anyway (i dont want it confiscating) and for all we know it could be pefectley fine already. The amount of legislation surrounding air rifles confuses me, iv got a barnett predator that will send a 400 grain bold at 430+ fps and its my springer thats the problem....what a country!!

Problem is often the smoother and nicer a gun is to shoot .the more powerful it can be .

Due to everything working in harmony and being the most effiecient

Noise and recoil ..will tell you nothing of the guns energy

Shooting at paper or tin cans will reveal zero .and that gut feeling about its power is you just needing a poo.

    Good points, well made.

  7. Taking it to gun shop monday. Says if its vastly overpowered he'l sort it or buy it if i want. He said if its only slightly over with the first pellet he fires he'l leave it because springers go stiff when sat for a few days then lose about 10% power after bieng used 2 or 3 times.

So Pez we have someone with previous convictions whose judgement is to go to a game of Football, get stoned and carry a knife. A place where a search is more likely than another public place. If your brain was made of dynamite it would'nt part your hair if it went off. I am sorry but I truly hope you are not granted a sgc/fac it would be madness.

I am done with this topic.all best to you but please reconsider gun ownership.

I let my bsc in computer science do the taking for my brain vs your brain buddy.

To think i get accused of being childish when you send messages like this.

Hello Pez91 I have seen your  other post on tuning the HW80 rifle you speak of not knowing it’s power output after your altering its internals I would get this checked on its power output to make sure it’s still below 12 foot pounds and legal before I went to apply for a firearms certificate or a shotgun certificate. Your previous cautions for burglary, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of drugs will need to be disclosed on application but if the air rifle is over the limit......well then if your air rifle is over 12 foot pounds then being rejected for a licence would be the least of your worries.... just a thought.

Taking it to my gun shop monday for testing.

At what point have I doubted your claims, I misread part of your post about the knife, but corrected it immediately.

You've had my advice which was supportive, but you now sound like you're still an immature child, who starts getting annoyed when he doesn't get what wants.

Less than 10 posts on the forum and you're slagging it's members off, you are certainly not selling yourself very well.

Hopefully you'll get an in depth interview before they process your application, because I think you have some issues.

You wrote that my blade was fixed. You like many other have contested weather or not my claims are true. Iv recieved more replies telling my that the things iv said are false than i have giving me advice. If pointing that fact out and puttin people straight when they call me a liar makes me immature and ensures a less than warm welcome from yourself and those like you, then I dont think im cut out for gun ownership either. Im nothing like you petty close minded judge mental people. When people tell me about there past my first instinct isnt to try and poke holes in there story or judge them. I been open an honest from the start and have faced almost constant cross examination of my claims.

Thank you to everyone that made a real attempt at constructive input, but this site is too much for me. The crossbow crowd is much more welcoming...im going home.

I have read this please explain why you would take a knife to a football match if not to use it my son’s go to matches and would never take a blade with them.

The other charges I could have over looked but not taking a blade to a match.

The football match was played on fields a stones throw from my house. The park area covers just over 2 acres  and is where i spent the majority of my youth and adolesence. The only difference to any other time when i wasnt breaking the law is that an organised sporting event was taking place. Why do you think i got away without even a fine? Tht type of offence carries a few years in prison max penalty. But all it got listed as was possesion of a bladed article  due to extenuating circumstances......... Something the majority of you must never have heard of.

 Perhaps you should have educated yourself before you took it to the footy, then you wouldnt have the conviction ?

Very true. The difference? I was i was 17 and wasnt misrepresenting the facts on a forum to make someone look like a liar.

This thread was to get advice on persuing my certificate. It says a lot about the majority of this websites patrons when it spirals into a debate about the legitimacy of my claims.

    Basic laws on knives

    It’s illegal to:

    • sell a knife to anyone under 18, unless it has a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less
    • carry a knife in public without good reason, unless it has a folding blade with a cutting edge 3 inches long or less
    • carry, buy or sell any type of banned knife
    • use any knife in a threatening way (even a legal knife)

I cant remember when the knife laws changed or whether it was relevant at the time of his offence (his blade was fixed)

Your not allowed any knives at organised football games. A fixed knife or blade over 3 inches is an offensive weapons charge not a bladed article charge......the more you know the further you go buddy. Educate yourself.

  13. Just now, walshie said:

A non-locking blade under 3 inches long is perfectly legal, so to be cautioned for it, you'd have to be doing something dodgy with it.

    This is an other half-story.

Took it with me to watch sunday leauge match, got caught smoking weed. The rests history.

Another time where asking for clarification would be more appropriate than questioning my honesty.

Why would i be asking for opinions about a lie?

  14. Just now, dougall said:

SO you 'party in a house' and accept a caution for burglary...er twice.......and rather than explain the discrepancy hurl abuse.

Your honour I rest my case.

We broke into a house due for demolition, we broke into the seperate garage first which resulted in 2 offences. And burglary is breaking into a property with the intent of commiting crimes including but not limited to theft. I was caught due my friend graffiting *my name* shagged *her name* on the living room wall to mark me losing my virginity. I accepted whatever got me out of the cop shop. Theres now a 14 bedroom respite home where the house once was as it was demolished a short time later.

But for the record i had no reason to explain to you. Your not the FLO your someone that called me a liar and essentially in the same breath insinuated that im a hardened criminal. I make no excuses for my youthful indiscretions but that is what they are and that is all they are.

Out of interest why not ask for the particulars of the incident rather leave a derogatory comment regarding my honesty?

take the stock and scope off it and seperate it into different rooms .Then get a chrono bought as fast as poss.and check it .

Hw80 s were designed to put out 20 fpe of energy.the hard part is keeping them under 12 fpe..most completely untouched 80s end up around 13 -14 fpe just by shooting them .

Combro is what you need .they are about 50 quid.

Im guna order a cheap one off of dhgate, 50 quids abit steep .

I didnt think springers were big hitters, tbh i might jst take a coil or 2 off the spring if it dosnt sounds vastly over powered??

My grandad taught me how to tune a springer as a kid, i never assumed it to be a problem haha but then again he had an fac.

A good reply, now take it on the chin, get you application and interview sorted, be honest and hopefully you can get your SGC.

    Good luck

Fair play cheers mate, im phoning FLO today. Im not dangerous i just call people names sometimes. Guna give forums a wide birth from now on. This is why i didnt pursue a career in customer service.

    Peace out guys

  17. Yeah i thought i may of gone as far as i can but tinkering with my springer has become a way of life haha think im guna buy a silencer now though!. Might buy a cheap hatsan and see what i can do with that aswell. How do i get the ft lbs checked?? I know it was putting out 10.5 when i bought it. It shoots threw the side of an oil drum now so who knows.

    Yup. True colours showing.

Only took 2 pages and folk daring to question or disagree.

I retract my good luck to the op.

I don't think he should be granted a certificate.

    Am out.

If staying quiet whilst being called a lier is a pre-requisite of gun ownership, then im afraid your right, thats not me...never will be. And if you'd being paying attention you'd notice that I've took all the advice on board both negative and positive. But like i said call me a lier and ill call u names. i suppose the FLO would never consider someone like me if they knew the dirty truth of me calling  someone names.

  19. Iv had my HW80 for the best part of 10 years now and like to think its in good shape, but this model has been around a long time and im aware people have been tinkering with it just as long. I've done a little myself but would appreciate any input. In the last 6 months or so I've replaced the piston and breach seal, made a greased shim for the piston and installed a welsh willy drop in kit with delrin tophat, spring guide and power washers. I've also drilled the piston in strategic places to reduce weight, I've buffed and polished the piston the spring and the transfer port and also had the barrel honed.

I'll be honest she shoots like a dream, i never plan on buying another air rifle. Im aware that iv already gone to great lengths to improve this rifle but good can always get better so all knowledge of tuning tikering or fettling a HW80 will be greatly appreciated.

  20. Yeah i get what your saying guys but im still young, if my chat with the FLO doesn't go well ill just wait 4 or 5 years. Suppose its the price you pay for youthful indiscretions.

The real irony of it all is that my crossbow makes more ft/lbs than an average 22lr and iv owned crossbows (albeit not as powerful as my predator) since i was 18.

Thanks for the help guys, if all goes well expect gloating.

  21. Thanks for the great advice guys, im guna apply next month and see what happens. If i get refused ill give it a few years and try again. Tbh it seems like people with real knowledge of gaining a certificate with convictions are quite confident. Im guna ring my local FEO and see what they say.

Just to clarify the bladed article was a non locking work knife, of less than 3 inches or i would of been convicted of possesion of an offensive weapon. And the 2 burglarys were me and my mates partying in a houses due for demolition (15 years ago, as a child).

Out of interest does anyone know how west yorkshire firearms licensing office compare to the rest of the country? I'm told theres a good degree of difference in how different forces interpret the legislation.

Thanks again guy you've all been a great help.

  22. Hey guys, first post here but been a fan of the site for a long time. After years of enjoying taget shooting with slingshots/bows/crossbows/air rifles, iv recently taken an interest in firearms and plan to pursue my SGC/FAC.

I started going clay pigeon shooting every few weeks, and going to a shooting range once a month or so. I live in a rural area where its not uncommon for people to aquire there licenses.

The only problem i see myself facing is that i have 2 cautions for burglary when i was 13 years old. 2 cautions for cannabis, one when i was 17 and one when i was 20. And a caution for possesion of a bladed article when i was 17. (wow that sounds bad when its written down). Im now 28 years old, i live with my partner of 8 years, we have a 4 year old daughter and i run my own business.

Needless to say im a reformed individual, but i worry that the police wont see it that way. Its my understanding that if you spend 3 years or less in prison that you are only banned for 5 years from owning firearms, considering that most of my cautions were from 10-15 years ago and that iv never even been to court what are my chances of been accepted????

Opinions welcome but what id really like is someone with direct knowledge of gaining an FAC or SGC with similar criminal history.

    Thanks guys.
