  1. Wife’s youngest brother served his time at Smiths Clocks in Derby and worked there 20 years until 1998. Dunno if he can help you? PM if you want a number.
  2. Some of you are confused between the BASC voluntary ban proposals and what the EU are bringing in which BASC have been opposing. Two different things.
  3. It’s nothing new. Dan Dare had one in the ‘50’s.
  4. Thanks JN, I understand all that. I have soaked the nozzle in white vinegar for 24 hrs but am unable to test because the outside tap/hose pipe are frozen solid now.
  5. I read the link and it quotes £980. I still won’t be having one.
  6. Proper Labs. And right chunky pups too. I know yellow is the fashion just now, but I still think blacks look smarter in the field.
  7. Gunman, if I am right, one major difference is in the assembly of the barrels. That is brazing compared to soldering. Perhaps you could comment on this please?
  8. This is not for You Have Been Framed, this is DARWIN AWARD stuff!
  9. The man is a supercilious twit. The dog was always left outside when his MIL was at home because she was scared of dogs. It always barked when outside. It is her house. She was the local mayor. The whole family is barmy.
  10. Well done that man. They make ‘em tough oop North!
  11. Thanks John, very interesting. I remember you posting before about having one.
  12. Correct. I read exactly that this afternoon in the Spanish Best book. Very, very few made though. Have you any idea how many? PS my brochure dates from, I think, 1967.
  13. Three houses down from me had a barking mongrel. One day it barked from 9am and was still barking at 3am next morning. As he was a parish councillor I had his phone number and called at 3am. When he eventually answered I just yelled, “shut that ******* dog up!” and put the phone down. He had the cheek to call back and ask who I was and then tell me, “well I don’t appreciate being spoken to like that.” I just said, “well shut the ******* dog up then.” He did.
  14. Every feature mentioned in my old AYA brochure has already been mentioned. I would just add that it states, “all AYA sidelocks are fitted with intercepting sears.”
  15. Apparently, you can if you stand them in front of you with their front legs over your shoulders!
  16. I have an AYA brochure from the mid ‘60’s which lists the Best Quality Boxlock as a specific model and specifically states it is based on the Mod No 4.
  17. Totally agree with last statement. I have driven both, on road and off, and I know which one gives me most confidence.
  18. The Duster is what it is. If you compare it to almost any modern vehicle it is not going to impress. But, off the road it will eat X trails for breakfast.
  19. Why would you want a ewe to keep steady? Round here we like ‘em wriggling about!
  20. I am really struggling with the idea of Wee Jimmie with a wet gusset!
  21. Don’t exaggerate what I have said. I have not said it is so bad. I said I believe it has various quality issues as standard, and it has. It is the entry level gun, made to a price not a standard, from the oldest and one of the most respected gunmakers in the World. I guess shooting schools use them because they are the cheapest gun they can buy that is good enough to do what they need. Even I always recommend a beginner thinking of buying a cheaper new gun to forget it and buy a secondhand Beretta or save a bit more for a new one.
  22. I believe SPs to be generally reliable enough, apart from the breaking across the pistol grip issue. Handling is a very subjective thing. What one prefers another finds clumsy, or too light, or heavy , or too whippy. Some people even find pump actions with moderators to have acceptable handling. One of the most successful guns ever is cheaply made ugly and I cannot imagine it handles well, but I don’t want an AK47.
  23. I think you will find it’s all facts. And I never stated SP’s were carp. I said there were many carp features as standard. Unfortunately, they spoil what was a good design.
