In 1975 I had a cheap Spanish LIG ejector bored out from half and full to TRUE cylinder and quarter choke. I have never for one second ever regretted that decision. I still have the gun and use it for all my rough shooting/duck/geese . You would be amazed what you can kill with a true cylinder barrel.

You need to realise that these are only the entry level guns from these makers, built to a price so that they can carry a prestigious name. The better guns from these firms cost many tens of thousands of pounds each!

Many years ago I remember the .410 being quoted as having 6% of the cartridge market. In those days it was fairly rare to see anyone using one. Today it has become much more popular and doesn’t raise any interest when spotted in the field. Plus there are now two major .410 clay competitions in the U.K. But I have not seen any recent breakdown of it’s market share.

Which nobody can estimate to a bird in the air!

Looking at the price for two barrels it would be better to order each barrel done individually.

I couldn’t help noticing the news reader on BBC news at one o’clock. He appeared to be wearing an Iranian shirt, the type with no collar and buttoned to the neck. Most odd. Maybe just the Beeb showing impartiality.

Thanks. I have used many an old tin before, but only through worn out plinkers. I just hope oxidised lead does not induce corrosion in a good barrel.

I reckon that a lot of people expecting a ‘rainbow bridge’ are gonna be very disappointed.

It is no use a beginner (or even most more experienced shooters) going in to a shop and handling guns to see what fits them. Go to a shooting school (that’s a shooting school, not the local clay shooting club) and have a fitting with a gun fitter who does it every day for a living. It will be the best money you will ever spend on shooting.

Does anyone have experience or advice about using oxidised pellets? I don’t mean through an old Cadet for shooting bottle corks in the garden, but rather through a Venom tuned rifle who’s barrel I would not want to spoil. Are oxidised pellets likely to group properly? Are they likely to encourage barrel corrosion? My current tin of Superdomes has suddenly nearly emptied through blatting a quantity of rats and when I opened my reserve tin I found they had oxidised. Being adverse to spending money unnecessarily I really don’t want to waste them.

With being a bit deaf I have to guess most of it!

The only choke which helps you hit more is less choke!

A 26 inch barrel does not reduce the effective range of the gun nor does it make it any more difficult to hit longer targets. I love ‘em.

Back in the late sixties, I had dropped a girlfriend off at her home late at night and was driving home myself in a Mini-Cooper. Driving like a teenage idiot I took a sharp bend at a ridiculous speed and found myself in the middle of a herd of Fallow. They scattered in all directions and I missed the nearest one by about six inches. They would have made a proper mess of the old mini (and me) if I had hit one at that speed. Never taken that bend at more than forty since then.

Don’t be ridiculous! That is not going shooting at all.

Was once involved with an estate where a mile and a half bordered a large river and the fishing was let to a very large angling club. Anglers complained lots about cormorants and a licence was duly applied for. I can’t remember how long the licence took to come through, bit it was not quick. When it did arrive we had been given a licence to shoot TWO. That’s right, licence to shoot two cormorants. Unfortunately, they kept on falling in the river, so we could only count what we picked. I don’t think we ever did shoot our quota.

Taking guns away from morons who do domestic abuse is no threat to shooting in general.
