  1. Never heard such a ridiculous idea in a lifetime of motoring. Grow up!
  2. Just today I have had five days on one estate scrubbed and rescheduled as four later in the season.
  3. Sorry for being thick, but I still don’t get your point.
  4. Sounds good to me to be honest. Why should people be allowed to possess stuff (for which ammunition is obviously available?) without a FAC? Or am I missing something?
  5. I bought an Aramberri sidelock in 1963, secondhand for £20. First double gun I had. They cost £47-10s new, the box lock non ejector was £30-10s.
  6. He’s a bit ‘rustic’, but I still think he should know better. Just my sense of humour because I think they’re only good for hedge stakes.
  7. You misunderstood, Scully, I was not referring to your friend at all.
  8. Yep, £1/flight, £2/day. This was in the mid sixties.
  9. Possibly the finest shot I know will use nothing but a Baikal SxS. It is still an insult to his intelligence.
  10. If I thought that would work I would take some next door!
  11. Forty years ago I used to have a boat called ‘Muddy Duck.’ It was named because of the state of one of the Wigeon I brought home.
  12. That’s the bit I just can’t understand about them.
  13. As @Figgy, chunky and numb for a SxS, handles like a scaffold batten. Hideous thing to me, but each to their own.
  14. Or hereditary. Father was deaf, both his sisters too, and my Grandmothers on both sides, also my sister. I do not blame shooting. I have a friend who has done lots more shooting than me but can hear a pin drop across a field.
  15. I know one shoot that was booked every day bar two for last January. I expect he will be the same this coming Jan. How are shoots like that going to manage to re-schedule many days? Impossible situation for them.
  16. You have to remember that 20 days lost on a commercial shoot at an average of, say, 250 birds/day is in the region of £200,000 lost income. That IS serious financial trouble for many one man run businesses.
  17. I can’t hear women say no! Seriously, I can’t tell what folk say in a crowded pub ( not that I go in pubs much), especially women if I’m not used to their voice. Tyre noise or inside an aircraft and I am hopeless. I haven’t heard little birds sing for 40 years, the last 5/6 years even blackbirds. But I can hear geese a mile away ( two miles if necessary!). I worked in machine shops for 55 years and blame this more than shooting, as very few of my shooting friends are deaf. I do have a moderator on my stalking rifle (.308) due to FC regulations but never bothered with one on the .375 H&H which was like HMS Hood.
