  1. And your ring piece twitch when you see the prices!
  2. You couldn’t drill anything round here yet. Some places are so wet you could lose the tractor!
  3. But will only do 19 mpg. This could be a factor for many people.
  4. A couple once bought the house opposite my friend’s dairy farm and then complained about the smells and the noisy cows!
  5. Even the humble Yeoman is welcome here. SxS need all the support they can get. I won’t have anything else.
  6. They’re ruddy gorgeous! Wish I could find one I could afford. But have you seen the prices for good Land Rovers lately?
  7. Yeah, they are nice, driven them quite a bit in Africa. But, during my trips over there, I have always managed to break something on one! edit: not the poshest Land Cruisers on the planet in the first place though!
  8. I bought my first in April 1976 and I still run an old-style Defender. Must have been to the Moon and back a few times in them. Had a few minor problems along the way, of course, but never been stranded with anything I couldn’t fix. (age has put a stop to that now). I can’t imagine life without one really. Just bought the wife a Jap skateboard!
  9. Notice all recommendations are Japanese.
  10. Never owned either, but having shot Purdeys and double gun loaded with many, and a few Boss’ too, I settled on a self opening Holland.
  11. Oh, he was, but wouldn’t leave. Information from a relative of Arthur’s.
  12. On the other hand, Jack Charlton’s reputation in the shooting world was of the lowest order. He was noted for being selfish and greedy. When he was shooting geese for the programme with Arthur Cadman, Arthur was wanting to pack up because they had shot enough but Jack would not do as he was told and continued shooting. When he was on the hill at Torridon for the stalking programme with Lea McNally he goofed up so often that eventually Lea had to shoot one for the camera. Neither Arthur nor Lea would ever have him back again. No doubt Archie Coates was equally enamoured with the man.
  13. They are easily moved on with a rotospreader full of sloppy stuff encircling the camp. They won’t stay with that stink.
  14. Because they are all ....holes.
  15. Gyppos, hows that for a key word?
  16. From where I’m sitting the New Forest is nearly in France!
  17. Is the cheapest answer for the comfort option.
  18. Dunks only hums on a Friday and Saturday. Bath night is Sunday!
  19. I have always preferred shorter barrels ever since I first shot one about 1966. Perfect for hedge hopping driven partridge and driven grouse (not that I can afford to shoot driven grouse!), and much handier for walked up shooting. And I have not found short barrels to be any handicap even on serious Welsh pheasants. Enjoy using your new gun, it is part of British shooting’s history.
  20. By what you describe this would be a bench made gun and thus virtually hand made. Therefore, I think each gun would be assembled individually and spare parts which fit “off the shelf” will likely be unobtainable. You need a gunmaker who can make you a replacement lock, which, as you say, will not be cheap. But the gun should be worth repairing.
