    Gun fit

Thanks for the replies so far, no I'm not a complete novice. Been shooting for around 4 years and had my own gun for around 2. Obviously I could always be better but my current gun is no good for me so is reducing how much I want to shoot (too light, bruised cheek etc) I'm a tricky customer because I have one arm so getting a good fit is quite important

    Gun fit

Well I wanted to have an afternoon around the ground and thought I could tie in the two. I also heard they have a lot of left handed guns. I wouldn't want to travel too much further than that really as I'm in Manchester. Quite like the idea of trying a few as I've been to plenty of gun shops and seen guns but I have no idea how they are when shooting
  3. Hi all, I'm in the market for a new gun and I'm thinking of going to Premier guns at Doveridge. Has anyone got any experience of their gun fitting services? Thanks,
  4. Yeah that's why I need to look at recoil pads and vest options because the gun that will be ideal for me will destroy my shoulder after 100 clays!
  5. Hi all, sorry for the delay in getting back to you all! Yes you are correct, the weight needs to be more towards the rear for me as the weight needs to be between the contact points ie my hand and shoulder. Normally it would be correct to go for a slightly heavy gun for less recoil but then fatigue becomes an issue. On high birds it's not a problem but rabbits are very tiring. I'd like to stick with 12 bore for now and O/U are my preference. I know they're cheap but I'm looking at either an ATA or a Koffs in 26" barrels because I want to mess around with porting for muzzle flip and it's starts getting expensive quickly!
  6. Thanks everyone, as far as a semi auto, I've tried one but the weight is too far forward. I've been looking at O/U game guns for the weight and load the stock with weights. I've tried a SXS but didn't really get on with it to be honest. At the moment I'm using some Eley 21g cartridges (can't remember the exact ones) but I've also heard good things about the Hull comp X 21g I believe? I think a decent pad in my vest and a decent pad on the gun will get me 90% there
  7. Hi, Could anyone advise me on some products I should be looking at to protect me from recoil a bit more? I only have one arm so I'd like to protect my remaining shoulder as much as possible. I use 21g loads and I know people will say that they have no recoil anyway but still, I'd like to minimise felt recoil further. Is there a particular skeet vest or recoil pad etc I should look for? I will be getting a 20g in the future as well but I'd like to mainly stick with 12g. Thanks
  8. Hi all, I wondering what the etiquette is or the best way to approach asking people to button for you is? I have one arm so shooting solo is always going to be a challenge (I'm still waiting for my certificate to drop too!). Right now I have regular lessons at mickley hall in Nantwich but I would like to visit other places around Manchester/Cheshire. I have a friend I can shoot with but he can only shoot at weekends and I prefer to go midweek to avoid crowds as I can be slow and don't like causing inconvenience to people. Thanks
  9. Well he told me to wait until he's had it approved first
  10. Yes I have one arm although fairly new to shooting. Only been doing it a few years really!
  11. He just asked about my experience with guns and went through my answers on the application form with me. Talked about security etc. I don't have my safe in yet as I wanted his advice on it so he said once it's all approved he'll come back with the certificate to check the safe and if all's ok he'll hand it over
  12. Had my interview this morning and everything went well. Seems like they're working through the backlog fairly quickly. He said it'll be about 10 days to 2 weeks from now until my certificate arrives
  13. Yeah, I applied in August and they told me they were accepting new applications. Spoke to them in January and they told me they were accepting then but weren't processing them and now they've stopped accepting completely. It's so frustrating
  14. I've just crossed the 7 month mark. I've given up hope!
  15. I applied for mine in August and haven't heard anything since. Was told 20 weeks at application and they were processing grants but have since been told when I rang up in Jan that they've suspended grants. They told me they were working on early 2020 applications so I've given up any hope of having mine in the next 6 months. Very frustrating to say the least! Edit: I'm with GMP
  16. Hi all, I just thought I'd share the information that I've just received regarding shotgun certificate grants from GMP. I rang them enquiring about my application I put in around August and I was told that they've only just started Februarys applications. The website says they've been accepting grants for a while now and she said they've been accepting them but not processing them which I find a little misleading. I thought I'd put this up for anyone who might have an application in or was thinking about it, you've still got a very long wait!
  17. Hello all, This is my first port so apologies if it's in the wrong place or if it's not appropriate. I'm in the process off applying for my shotgun certificate and I had a couple of questions regarding it. First of all I spoke to GMP and they are suggesting that the wait time is atleast 16 weeks at the moment which seems excessive to me but is that about right? I must point out it's a grant and not renewal. Second, I have a disability, I lost an arm (I know, clumsy me) and I'm worried if this would prevent me from getting my grant. I currently shoot with an instructor and he's happy and thinks I'm safe but now we need to send our application with a dr's letter I'm worried that's going to make things awkward. I'm still going to apply because it's the only way I'll know but I just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts. Cheers,
