  1. Because she was my mum in law. I therefore saw her as my responsibility, or at least some responsibility for her, my wife if able would have done it. I'm also sure if the roles were reversed she would have looked after me without a second thought. It's not nice when people turn their backs or say too busy.
  2. Yes it does, it's also totally exhausting, mentally and physically and takes over your life. I don't want my kids to look after me, dump me, move on. I'd been retired just 3 years when my mum in law started with alzhiemers. I was the one always called on as I was retired and therefore not only available but judged to have nothing better to do with my time. Church on Sunday morning meant no more clay shooting, hospital and Drs appointments meant no more days out or weeks away with my disabled wife, or my grandchildren. I was used to working a 5 day week of up to 15 hours a day right up till I retired and then suddenly I was doing a 24 hour shift 7 days a week. Those who where still working just 8 hours over 5 days couldn't find the time. If I could have afforded it I would gladly have put her in a home, but I couldn't and had no say as not her son and no lasting power of attorney. (That went to a named daughter) I wonder how many more people are in that trap. It caused a family rift when my daughter said it was literally killing me. Now my sis in law is talking about giving up driving, cos since she retired she's constantly put on. It's a hard life.
  3. Maybe what's said behind closed doors should stay behind closed doors, or how long before the thought police knock on your door? Didn't this investigation cost the taxpayer 100 million pounds? Couldn't this have been spent better? Maybe giving those nice boat people new cars or maybe an AK or three?
  4. When I was serving, a request had to be made from either The Home Office, COBRA, or on a local level the Chief Constable. The Chief Constable then has to formally, in writing, hand over to the Army. Once the situation is contained the Army hands back control. Briefly that's it, but there's a lot more to it in reality.
  5. The last time I was here, July, RC Sipe 32 x 5s (12 bore) cost £74.50 per slab although I understand the price has now risen somewhat. I don't have a 20 bore so no idea of what they're charging. Everywhere seems to have .410 supply problems. I've ordered 1000 Romagnola to pick up when I shoot later today, couldn't give me a price till I collect but told around £65/£67 per slab. Still cheaper than the £87 at my local ground.
  6. Never seen those before, I'll do some research. I'd go along with Westley or Dave at Kelton with the addition of I use a bore snake as well, and clean my gun after every outing even if only fired 1 or 2 cartridges or nil. I loosen and tighten my chokes every time but only regrease on a full deep clean which depends on use but approx once a month. Another tip is keep a second slip in the car and if your main slip gets soaked, use the spare on the way home.
  7. There's always someone who uses a hammer to tighten a screw.
  8. I think it depends on where you are in the country. Currently at least 3 RFDs in Norfolk have lots of RC in stock but little else. Where as back home in Sheffield all I can get is Comp X. I prefer RC for live quarry but Lyalvale Express or Eley for clays.
  9. It'll all depend on who you are.
  10. The reasoning behind not pulling up to the line is: If struck from behind you'll not be forced out into traffic, alternatively: If you see someone about to hit you from behind ,you have room to move forward without straying into traffic. I used to do insurance assessments for HGV drivers who had frequent collisions and stopping at least 5 yards or one car length behind the line was an insurance "recommended" requirement. I had to go along with it despite the fact that in a Class 1 HGV (CE) weighing up to 44 tons, you'd hardly be likely to be pushed anywhere. What you might be seeing is someone who has had a recent assessment as a judged insurance risk practicing what they have been re taught. There are several other things taught as well. It's all about reducing risk and reducing premiums.
  11. My parents were the tightest people I've ever known. Had the same furniture, bed, carpets, even the cooker from when first married. Never spent a penny more than they had too, ever. Disowned me and never spoke to me more than half a dozen times after I joined up. They even wrote to my CO asking for an allotment home from me to keep my room available. He and I said no, I therefore had no "home address" untill I married. When they died, I was asked to pay for the funeral as technically I was next of kin. I found out they had left over half a million in cash, more than twice that in property, gold and jewellery and a clause in the will stating I nor any member of my family was to profit from the death. Everything was left to a female cousin. I said a large resounding NO and they had no funeral, that was the last I ever heard except my cousin now lives in Turkey. My kids and grandkids know what they're getting and as a precaution I've already signed the house over and handed over everything of value that I'm not actually using. Technically I'm penniless. Actually I'm penniless too🤣
  12. Who had the number before you? Stop using your last 4 as your bank pin, every ex serviceman I know do that😇🤣🤣🤣
  13. Same here, although they're trying rape again on two fields. Off to look later and see what's occurring. One thing I've noticed is this time there are no margins, every possible inch is plowed and seeded. Very even here, shoots around 2" everywhere. Last time it was a mixture of weather and flea beetle that ruined everything.
  14. 404% on a straw baler Sunday mornings takes the cost up to around £100. Quickest way of finishing shooting for the vast majority of shooters.
  15. Every day a school day😁 Habit of a lifetime, 60 years + of handling "weapons". Took me 50+ to start using the term guns.🙄
  16. Ha ha, I'm coming this week, ammo is £20 or more a slab cheaper than here. Probably my last holiday before Christmas 🤶
  17. Yet we continue to pay for them.
  18. Quick Google brings up his address and company details in Redhill Surrey if you can be bothered. Reviews good and bad on Google also.

    green wind

I guess that sort of sums it up. Wasn't it called evolution before people like those had too much time on their hands?
  20. It's in most books by Bryn Parry. I thought this one appropriate for today:
