  1. I'm looking for reccomendations on underbody protection against rust, mud and all manner of vile stuff that sticks when in pigeon shooting mode. Needs to be in driving distance of Sheffield as I can no longer do this sort of work myself. I used to clean and then thickly underseal. I've been ringing round locally and can find no leads to anyone that still does any type of underbody protection.
  2. Range Rover to drive to spot and unload. Then I can take everything including the kitchen sink. If its less than 50m or so, fishing barrow with extra large pump up tyre. Folds flat for transportation. Scraper welded in for light mud. More than 50m either my son carries it all except my gun, or if on my own I just put out a half dozen half shells (sometimes nothing if on a good flight line) and take a begara seat, maybe hang a net from the trees. Never more than I can lift easily on a couple of fingers. My guide is two ex army rocket pouches which must contain everything but gun and stool, but include extra warm kit, food, drink and my essential meds and first aid kit. Once you get used to it, its surprising how much stuff you don't need to have a reasonably good day.
  3. Yet "most" clay grounds still allow the useage and some farmers too.
  4. Early Military vehicles had a similar cold start system. I remember using a similar sort of cartridge in Austria, Bavaria and Switzerland.
  5. Workwise most trades have never been busier as people are using lockdown to catch up on jobs. So prices go up as demand grows. My son runs a ready mix concrete company in Nottingham. His suppliers have increased costs to him, he has to pass that onto customers. Plus demand, he's almost always fully booked up at least a week in front. For ready mix - that's super busy as work normally comes by the day or 1 to 2 days ahead. So busy he's buying new trucks and setting more staff on to cope. Currently he's having to walk away from jobs he'd normally grab, or offer overquotes so he doesn't get them to retain his regular customer base. Perhaps your man over quoted for the job as he doesn't want it, too much time/risk and not enough profit in it. Incidentally: Anyone with a class 2 HGV (C licence) living in Nottingham, wanting an immediate start day job. No nights out. No previous mixer experience as full training given. Get in touch.
  6. Glad you're both getting out and some pigeon too
  7. Loverly gun, very much what I'm looking for. Hope you enjoy it.
  8. So happy to see posts like this. Its great being out with kids. I normally shoot with my son (38) and with my grandkids, 17 down to 6. Glad she enjoyed it. Keep it up.
  9. Happened to me last Sunday. Buzzard sat in tree watching us shoot. Bided its time, then took a large crow with a broken wing on the edge of the pattern. Loverly to see.
  10. I use Bulb, very easy to deal with. Use this link and get £50 towards your next bill: http://www.bulb.me/andyb7209?utm_campaign=account-referral-share&utm_medium=copy-link&utm_source=copy-button
  11. Very nice, good present. She'll be expecting diamonds in return 🤣
  12. Buy a nerf gun for the lad, tell him to help you shoot pigeon 👍
  13. Arrived on my perm for 0830 this morning, frozen ground so straight to hide and unloaded. Lofted some crow, put out a small crow pattern and a larger pigeon pattern. Wind from left to right and bitter. Crows coming in from the off and some screamingly fast pigeon but from behind me. Saw a heron on its usual flight path and a buzzard up high. Then from behind silently gliding into the pattern a buzzard of about 3 foot wing span. Must have realised they were decoys at last second and landed in the tree to my side. Sat watching my son and myself then circled round and came back to same place. I dropped a crow and it fell dead into the pattern, the buzzard just turned to look at it then back to watching us. It obviously wasn't bothered about the noise from shooting. My son dropped a long crossing crow and it fell at the edge of the pattern flapping one wing. Buzzard glided down, talons out, landed on it, two flaps of its wings and carried it to about 20 feet from us and made a meal of it. Tearing it apart and eating it, completely fearless of us sat there. I stood up to watch and it just looked up then carried on eating. My son picked up his phone to take a picture and it took to the sky with the crow, not to be seen again. By then it was just turned 1030 and quite a few walkers/runners/lycra clad wufters were about so we packed up. Frozen to the bone. Pain in my joints is awful now, sat with a heat pad on my back and upped my morphine dose for today🤪 Two hours fresh air and 4 crows 2 pigeon shot. 12 shots. Unfortunately the only picture I managed just shows a brown bird sat in a tree.
  14. Happy you're better and getting out👍
  15. I sat in one of my permanent hides yesterday, lofted a few crows and a pigeon pattern on the ground. Birds must have been hungry as even my shooting didn't put them off. Just kept coming till I was out of time. So cold de lofting I was in real agony with my joints. Don't think I could have set up and taken down a hide due to wind chill factor. More gulls than crows and pigeon combined but alas not on GL so they're still there.
  16. Do you know you can now buy a hybrid Kuga? No good for towing but I think its advertised at 149mpg. I'd go for the Kuga BTW.
  17. He'll be spending £250 to collect £50 of logs
  18. Rucksack would need to be tough, ex Army bergan at least. Something with a frame to keep the wood from cutting into your back. Your back will need to be strong and if you don't suffer back pain now, you will after a couple of loads. Terrible idea, just from the back ache point. Don't do it.
  19. Just took mine with Gunplan. You can select the cover you need/want and pay accordingly. Starts at £18.00 For the cover I wanted £32.00 which is £50.00 cheaper than giving to BASC.
  20. +1, plus some extra padding if you have a fat bottom
