  1. You don't half seem to have some dramas for someone who has well behaved dogs. I work dogs and have had a dog with me most days for getting towards two decades. Unfortunately if you put in those sorts of hours in the different environments I do then it’s going to happen.
  2. Just got back, been out feeding all day with my three boys and the dogs. I’ve got just enough energy to bite…. I don’t see how this can be inferred, but as I cannot see your original message it looks a mystery that’s not worth solving. We have laws, you obey the law it’s that simple. Dogs should be under close control at all times in public. I have never disagreed with that. If there was a bylaw to do so I would have happily complied. That my compliance was bought through deceit angered me. I don’t imagine that we do. You’d be welcome to come out with me if you would like to see how I work my dogs.
  3. How I felt yesterday 😡 How I feel today 🤣
  4. Today whilst out walking my boys and dogs on a reasonable hike a ranger’s pickup pulled over on the footpath and told me to put my dogs (at heel) on the lead. I explained that there was no requirement to do so as I was on a footpath and they were under close control. He said “You’re setting a bad example to people who see your dogs off lead and so let their dogs off too, which may then worry sheep.” I told him that I couldn’t be responsible for other people’s decisions or dogs, but if any sheep are being worried the land owner is welcome to call me to destroy the dogs. He said “I have no powers of enforcement, but if you could just put your dogs on the lead I would appreciate it”. I replied “There is nothing to enforce as I am within my lawful right”. He then said “No you are breaking the bylaws”. I asked which bylaws, he didn’t know but was very confident that I had broken them. Unsure of every bylaw in every area I apologised (some councils have bylaws banning dogs from cemeteries etc) I apologised and put the dogs on the lead. After a mile or so I came across council signs asking “please put your dog on a lead”… not you must, and no reference to any bylaws. When I got home I investigated and there are no such bylaws, it was pure fabrication by the ranger. I am pretty annoyed that the ranger was sent out to do a job, and either through a lack of training or poor judgement decided to openly lie to me. The question is how to suitably complain to the council? Note I have posted this in general rather than dog training because I know how to heel a dog and feel no need to debate or discuss the dog aspect, purely how to redress the misinformation from a public agent.
  5. Signed, devolution has been poorly delivered. Without an English parliament and equity for laws being national or regional it has led to a complete mess. I’m my area of work we have different local, regional and national planning policies. Different building regulations. Too much bureaucracy and no benefit. I support Welsh language, and the distinct Welsh identity, but not this shambles of a system with constant political sniping.
  6. Small world, I have four permissions within spitting distance of your house!
  7. 10/22 is normally a reference to a ten shot Ruger semi automatic rimfire rifle, most commonly chambered in .22 Long Rifle.
  8. Sounds like you saw me at clays this morning 🙈🙈🙈
  9. There is always someone worse at maths and arithmetic than you are, and people who are better.
  10. Yes, from the bench it is great for all the reasons you have stated above. The eight year old wants to take on tree rats but his 3lb .410” is far better for that, they prefer to shoot the air rifle due to lower recoil and being almost silent. They cannot cock the break barrel and the twangy nature of double recoil is far inferior to the recoiless* PCP in terms of bipod shooting, teaching technique such as both eyes open, follow through etc. But yes as they get older and can head out on their own at the shoot to shoot free-hand, Sat or prone a break barrel is the best for independence and ruggedness.
  11. I bought my boys (8, 6 and 4) a BSA ultra junior in .177 @ 12ftlbs. I considered a Snowpeak PP750 but the lack of adjustability to the collapsible stock, the large size of the hand grip and the low power put me off. The BSA is still too heavy for them, and in my opinion inferior to my 20 year old S410, but it has plenty of capability for them to grow into. I’ve set it up with a red dot sight, very light moderator and low bipod. From the bench they happily and consistently shoot the balloons etc I put out for them. I use a wall of straw bales as a back stop. https://www.krale.shop/en/snowpeak-pp750/ https://www.cheshiregunroom.com/bsa-ultra-jsr-junior-air-rifle

What a shame, very knowledgeable and likeable. I got a PM warning once, I was in the wrong and deserved it. Don’t know if that predates the tick box or if what I received was the equivalent of a referee giving you a final warning before being yellow carded.

Has anyone spoken to Walker recently? I’ve been away over the summer and missed his posts.
  14. Where about in Africa was this?
  15. I believe @Westley made a stuck choke removal tool, perhaps he could send you over the design to knock up? I understand it used threaded bar and plates to ensure the key cannot slip.
  16. Fantastic, every word of that post was informative. Thank you for taking the time to write that in such a measured way.
  17. The point is it's not the dog breed that is inherently the problem. It's the scrotes that are buying them. Ban bully XLs and they'll get a different status dog, just like theyve already done by swapping from apbt to bully XLs. Agree, but perhaps licensing assists? Some breeds have been breed to be inherently more dangerous due to their size, power, jaw structure and reactivity. Sadly those traits are catnip for idiots.
  18. My dogs all are over that limit and their mass means they could inflict a nasty bite, many degrees less lethal than a baiting breed. It is not a popular opinion but I would happily apply for a licence and consent to inspections of large breeds for the greater good. In your comparative hypothesis, if there was evidence that large calibre full bore firearms were responsible for a disgustingly high proportion of civilian deaths (pro rata and absolute), like American Bullies, then a ban or restriction would be appropriate steps to consider.
  19. It is never the dog… ? Replace the XL Bully (and all baiting breeds etc) with chihuahuas then leave them in the hands of the eegit owners, what will happen to the number of fatalities from dog attacks? Some really interesting contributors on Radio 4’s AM show yesterday. One was an expert witness in Dangerous Dog trials. He said the Dangerous Dog Act 1991 was one of the worst pieces of legislation ever written and he is completely against banning breeds. However, the American XL he would ban in an instant. I his opinion the musculature, jaw structure and reactiveness of the American Bully mean it is deadly and should not be on the streets. The statistics alone mean a ban of them is inevitable, such a high proportion of fatalities from such a small proportion of dogs.
  20. Whether you vote blue or red there will always be populist shirt fillers that see fieldsports as an easy whipping boy.
