  1. I usually use one of my .308’s for sport/meat shooting. The subsonic set-up is for areas that are close to towns and settlements when not waking up the neighbours is desirable, and for shooting as many animals as possible in the shortest time, ie pest control. I develop shooting systems for pest controllers who are contracted by regional councils, wildlife trusts, Department of Conservation etc, for clearing deer, pigs and goats in areas set aside for native forest regeneration.
  2. I need info about reloading subsonic 7.62x39. I've done some online research, but haven't really gained a definitive answer. I need a reliable load for shooting deer and feral pigs. Anyone doing this, or knowing how to?
  3. Well actually they compete with native bird species and spread bramble which is a terrible plant pest species. As a landowner, I have to deal with this. We also have to deal with hedgehogs eating ground nesting species as well as a whole host of introduced animals, both birds and mammals.
  4. ......and blackbirds and thrushes, if I see them, I pop them. NZ doesn't need introduced avian species, well, except pheasants, quail, partridge and mallards of course 👍
  5. I'm looking at buying a Mk6 Fenn trap or two for evaluation against rats and stoats, weasels, and ferrets. I used to trap grey squirrels very effectively with a Fenn trap back in the '80's. I have one of these that I'll be setting later today: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCD5rA0EFcxjr7La2CNTMSSg/videos I like the fact that they don't need to be checked often, unlike other traps that need to be reset.
  6. No, I'm in Richmond, Tasman, NZ. I was born in North Staffs Royal Infirmary though.
  7. I'm currently considering buying a CR600w for evaluation as a short range (≤25m) night-time pest killer on rabbits, rats, and for daytime use on starlings, sparrows, feral pigeons etc around farm buildings and lifestyle blocks (small holdings), where it is undesirable to use a rimfire. it seems to tick a lot of boxes with the exception of muzzle energy, which I believe can be increased, though it needs to be a quick and easy upgrade. I like the fact that it is a .22 repeater, it is supplied with a suppressor, seems to be quite accurate, low purchase price, lightweight, and requires no firearms licence for over 18's. https://www.trademe.co.nz/sports/hunting-shooting/air-guns-parts/air-rifles/listing-2497530815.htm?rsqid=1df6065db2c74f0dadb2220c82b5bc26-005 I'm not sure how popular these are in Ol' Blighty, but as a beginners rifle, or for casual pest control for non-shooting landowners who need to keep on top of their pests, it may be adequate.
