  1. couldnt agree more mate, but i noticed the OP was in newcaste and will more than likley fall under the same police force as me and basicaly say if its his first ticket thats the deal if its not then it should have already been changed and to read the print on his ticket. mine used to say over land cleared by the chief of police now it says that i have permission over or somthing to that effect.
  2. correct but the statistics show that these dogs have repeatadly attacked people and other dogs to devestating effect. i apreciate that some good owners will think it unfair but frankly these dogs are very new in the uk, very few and far between and have built a reputation faster than any ive seen becasue of actual events, deaths and frequent attacks. im not really bothered if other dogs are more bite prone, its not pound for pound you could catch your thumb with a pin hammer 2000 times and with a chainsaw once the pin hammer is not the more dangerous tool. i personally dont get it. if you like the american pit bull breed fair enough but why not have a standard, pocket or a classic one? they are robust enough dogs at that size they look the same have the same traites and are managible. why do people need a pit breed that size other than to intimidate? they certainly arnt using them to work.
  3. i get what youre saying but most if not al of the previous status dogs were old breeds picked becasue they were intimidating and powerful but were infact old working dogs of purpose like rotty, the doberman, akita. all of which had a bad reputation with ahrd to find fact and figures. pit/fighting dogs were bred for sport and theirs a reason they were bred small/medium build. if you breed strength, fearlessness, stamina, jawpower and a high pain tolorance into a predator its fairly obvious that then breeding it to be XL is gona end in tears. if it had no drawback all pit dogs when it was a legal and popular sport would have been the size of cows.
  4. sorry for late reply gas seal i thought this topic had died. great piece of knowlege their thanks for passing it on. its people like yourself whove kept birds and also shot them for years and the lads above whos brain id love to pick. like i said ive got countless books on the subject, and they all cover times of year, none of them actualy go into the nitty gritty day to day life of pigeons at diffrenet times of year and its probably fairly valuble information. just from the comments in this post ive been making a concious effort to go out later when its long hot days and by no means is it definitive or fact but i feel i had better sport for sure. wonder if i can find a book on woodpigeon thats not shooting book but just an indepth look at the bird itself. might learn a thing or 2
  5. I know people say its not the breed its the owners and i know certain breeds are desired by the less responsible owners but these bully breeds are responsible or involved in nearly 50% of attacks reported in the uk have a body count of 11 inside 2 years and only make up in the region of 1% of the dog population in the uk. hard to talk those stats round to me that theyre just another dog breed. the undesirables have always had the flavour of the month breed but none have rocked up a tally like this one. in my eyes i apsolutley see fire with this smoke. another attack this morning.
  6. northumbria police do this aparently. My first ticket was a closed ticked asked for it to be opened as i was getting offers and requests all over the place. they said it automatically gets made an open ticked upon your first renewal and that your first 5 years is seen as a probation of sorts and any new permission will be added upon request, my renewal ticket came back open. so far touch wood northumbria have been excelent with me, never got much push back at all on variations, ammunition quantity or turn around times.
  7. id of snapped your hands of for the lightning steel but youre just too far away mate
  8. nah that fair enough bud, things get lost in text and when its spread across multiple hours and not minutes like in a pub, it can get hard to follow. but no im not trolling lmao, i think what you say is true youre damned if you do youre damned if you dont the scrots will just ignore the rules for the fact that its hard to prove and prosecute and when theyt do the sentence is usualy trivial but somthing needs to be done. and i cant think of anything practical outside of muzzle this particular breed or register them but like you say they will just claim its a cross and use loopholes but an outright ban stands only to hurt the honest owners. and heavy prosecution should 100% be implemented but its after the fact and not much use to somone thats been set about by one.
  9. im not being funny mate but why start this topic then? you asked peoples thougth and opinions and for a discussion. and all youve done is be cleaver with anyone whos opinion doesnt match yours. if youre such an autority on the matter why have you even asked?. spidey senses tell me somones got a massive mental dog
  10. Where did i say all dogs?. my given examples was a greyhound as a known breed for having high prey drive and german shepards that are known to become tempremental in old age for health reasons. If the owner of the animal has any inclination or isnt sure about the current mind set of the animal its not an unreasonable thing to do. Even if you are apsolutly sure, if youve got a big powerful dog it can be a fairly courtious thing to do if youre taking it to an area like a public park as it puts other dog owners and park uses a bit more at easy because they dont know the owner or the dog. and i dont think its an unreasonable request to have the owners of a dog breed thats now got a reputation and a sting of incidents and fatalities to its name to wear a muzzle in public, to safeguard the dog from destruction, the public from an attack, the owner from prosecution. not only will it give everyone peice of mind its also easily seen at a distance for spot checks and fines.
  11. How is it not responsible? I know a few lads who own big breeds thst have shown no aggression but when the dogs were young and again when they got on in years they wore a muzzle because just like humans, dogs can do daft things when young and inexperienced and in new situation and again can get cranky in old age, tired and sore. Can’t Count how many times I’ve seen old dogs show defensive behaviour when they can’t match the energy of a younger dog even when they were playing 5 minutes earlier. Larger breeds like German Shepard's are prone to cancer in later life and a brain tumour or any tumour can vastly affect the nature of a big powerful dog.
  12. what about a muzzle in public?. I know 99% of all ex racing dogs wear them because they’ve been bred to chase small things. It’s a very effective means of making the dog allot more safe and it’s a great visual identifier at a distance. means it would satisfy the idiots because it’s a big visual “ watch out everyone bad man walking” when in reality a muzzle is a very responsible addition for dog owners who have dogs in public
  13. ah wow had to google it. very intresting piece of history. good luck getting it sorted
  14. its a tough one, theyre probably no more agressive than any other dog but the problem is when they do kick off theyre borderline impossible to stop without somthing in your pocked youd get done for carrying. what else can we claim we own for protection thats killed 6 people in the last year and not be wildly illegal?. all dogs should need a licence over a certain weight simple as that really.
  15. im not after another scope but if i was id not even look around. the vortex range of scopes is just dominating the marked in terms of price to performance, robustness and warrenty. transferable life time no questions asked... for the price of the vantage ffp you could get one of the diamondback range. and theyre not even in the same league
  16. ooof thats a request. only thing i can think of thats near is lylvale spureme game in 34g. if the gun is only a 2.5 chamber and wont cycle anything lighter than you request id saythat guns not working as intended. out of intrest what is it?
  17. this is apsolutly not fudd lore. it may not been priority 1 when designing the bullet but its a given that a wounded combatant takes up way more of the logistical chain than a dead one. most anti personnel devices are designed like this. could easily make a mine that kills, most mines take the foot off, even nations that didnt sign the hague dont use expanding ammo becasue its detramental most of the time.
  18. or at the SLR. the FN fal was designed to be in 280 anyway and its got a proven track record.
  19. the real reason is bureaucracy. originally the official nato round was going to be the .270 british. the yanks wernt having any of it so we tried the .280 british to apease them. still a no go. the compromise was a .30 round if they adopted the fal like most of the west nations. so everyone adopted the 7.62/308 and they droped the fal in favour of the m14. only to addopt the m16 in 5.56 less than 20 years later and the rest of nato followed suit. annoying .270 british is a 7mm 100gr round doing about 2800/2900 fps.... so basically in the wheel house as all these wonder rounds that have been getting popular over the past 20 years.
  20. really? i have heard nothing but good reviews for what it is. i mean its never gona be amazing at the price point but the only issues ive heard of are a heavy trigger and the bolt being fiddly becasue its basically flush. glad i stayed boring and safe and got a 452 sillouette. how do you blow up a bolt action 22lr? most of the semi autos are direct blowback with such a weak cartridge. to rupture a barrel or blow the lock up it must be very poor quality and thin metal.
  21. 5.56 is apsolutly fine and a best choice the UK are never gona switch outside of NATO standardisation the US keep looking into it but theyve got the size and money to back it like the recently addopted and then almost instantly unadopted .277 fury. So its a toss up between 5.56 and 7.62 and between the 2 you can carry double the ammount of .5.56 pound for pound, afords the use of lighter built weapons and the average recruit is going to find it easier to make accurate, fast and consistent hits on target with a 5.56. old SLR sweats incoming.
  22. people are getting far to hung up on this. Unless you have a purpose built choke designed to pattern steel its totally pointless. safety aside steel patterns tighter so a standard half choke will throw a steel pattern like a lead 3/4ish, even if youre gun can handle it if you push it through too tight a choke that constricts to quick it starts to blow out and youll see more or less the same results on a pattern plate with added stress to the gun. if you want extreme tight patterns for heavy loads of steel get a purpose built choke like a kicks high flyer or pattern master code black. theyre less than £100 as for US being ahead of us, some of the most highly regarded ammo is kent and thats just gamebore USA.they get arguably better ammo as they play by the rulles of SAAMI we play by the rules of CIP and they get hotter higher pressure loads off the shelf but you can load the same spec in the uk if you home load. most 3.5 inch uses i know do. me ive never felt the need in my shooting for more than 36g 3 3"
  23. im not sure what gamebores angle on these are tbh, theyre in the same price bracket as blackgold, zeneth or highpheasent extreme which are the "flagship premium loads" of the same weight and shot size. like the rest of you its way overkill for pigeon maybe it was just a crack at putting digweeds face on somtething. ive never seen a box on a shelf with the new gamebore logo on it so i cant imagine theyve done many re-runs in recent times.
  24. if youve got a valid reason to own somthing and they decline id be persuing it. otherwise they will squeeze you everytime and thats section 1, as for a 3 shot pump action if you've got a section 2 its apsolutly nothing to do with them just let them know after the fact. the proposal to ban having pump actions at home was some apsolutly half baked proposal by some nobody backbencher. he got his 10 minutes, and he was questioned after why he didnt propose semi auto, he didnt know what one was he shut up about it and it went no further. he was just doing the rounds to show hes trying to do somthing when hes knocking on doors in his constituency which i think was where it happened. They ever approch it again and im asked upon renewal its becasue im left handed and they tend to be neutral cast and i personally find them safer in a confined pigeon hide as i can load them with the muzzle outside of the hide and in a safe direction at all times. job done..... not saying a sxs or O/U isnt safe.
