  1. I completely agree - I have never owned a copy until three days ago when Amazon somehow sent me a copy instead of the wind vane I had actually ordered! I had a quick look through (to bake sure it definitely wasn't a wind vane) and was surprised that in this day and age, the bird images were drawings rather than photos of actual birds.
  2. @Walker570 I've seen your ferret idea in action.... I work for an IT cabling company and we do a lot of external fibre cabling through ducts etc. Years ago we were on site at a spot in York and we found a duct running under a brige with no draw rope. Our guys were just about to head off to HSS or the like for some rods when one of the guys who worked at the site 'nipped' home and came back with one of his ferrets and a sea fishing multiplier reel - 10 minutes later he was reeling in a new draw rope into the duct 😀
  3. Plus one for a cobra.. one thing to note is that they come in different diameters which affect flexibility, so you’d be best looking at what your hire shop has in stock to see if you felt it could cope with your two sharp bends (most cable ducts are designed without sharp bends so the rental cobras may be a bit stiff for your needs). You’d be looking at £20-£40 for a weekends hire typically..
  4. I've just had a letter from my GP saying they have had a consent form from me via med cert to release my records. They enclosed their own consent form for me to provide my consent to act on the consent form they've already received...... You couldn't make it up !
  5. if you google Larsen trap springs you'll be able to buy some very easily, they're worth getting rather than trying to use bungee cord or the like if you do decide to make one
  6. I have a trap Man double catch Larsen as per your picture Lloyd. I think it was around £70 a few years back so that price seems steep. It's well made and solid and I'd happily recommend his kit to anyone based on my own experience. the only con is the 'token' piece of plastic sheet that is meant to be the shade/cover for the call bird. It's not robust enough in my opinion - i replaced mine with something stronger.
  7. I’ve never isle that shop but it sounds like I should. I insisted that my daughter put PV on her pasties, it stands for Pesky Vegetarian in our house - just to ensure I didn’t get a nasty shock or disappointment when biting into one 😀.
  8. GK - the 2 oh the LHS are cheese and onion made with just margarine only pastry for the pesky vegetarian in our house. I followed the quantities exactly in the recipe and made 4 big pasties , we then had enough pastry left from both batches to cobble together another smaller ‘test’ pasty that didn’t survive for more than 10 minutes out of the oven. I think the quantities in the recipes are very generous but I guess once you’ve made a few you’d get better at stuffing more filling in them.
  9. John, I’ve always called them turnips just because my mum always did - it winds the wife up, so I obviously continue to do so 😀
  10. Good stuff! I hope you enjoy them - don’t scrimp on the pepper!
  11. Gladly, I will photo it and post in a couple of minutes, if they’re no good, get back in touch and I’ll get a PDF of it emailed to you @Gameking here you go, I hope this is ok for you, if not let me know. The recipe is for Anne Mullers pasties, she has a well known business making them apparently. I wouldn’t peel all the potatoes at first - I had a lot left over, and also don’t be shy on the salt and especially pepper, I was a little cautious and they could have done with more.
  12. @Dave-G great minds must think alike! The kids and I were heading up Pendle Hill for a walk on Thursday so we made pasties on Wednesday. I’ve never made them before but followed a recipe from a well known Cornish pasty maker I have in a Rick Stein book. They were lovely. Although I must admit they could have done with a bit more black pepper. The pastry wasn't too much of a pin to make either. Tasted great sat on top of the hill.
  13. At around the time of my last renewal, I was seeing my doc about an ailment and I mentioned she might be getting a request for a medical report from the Police. She was genuinely interested in my shooting and we chatted as she read through my medical notes (all of 2-3 minutes) and said there was nothing to worry about and she would happily sign anything. A week later on my return visit she was very apologetic and told me she'd been advised by the practice manager that it would cost £60 for her to read the notes and complete the form - not a bad hourly rate!

    Bread

If you have time and the inclination, you can also use the machine to make the dough only so you can let it prove and bake in the oven. We do this a lot with ours, especially for bread rolls and the like, let it do the donkey work and you do the fine tuning - we really enjoy it when we have the time.
  15. As per Kevin55 - take a look at the passport program. I've used them in other areas but not the Peak District - you buy a book of tokens and then there is an honesty box at each beat/river, if a beat is 3 tokens you fill your details in, put them in the box and start fishing. It's a great system. http://www.peakanglingpassport.co.uk/
  16. Thought I'd put this u in here as it would take a handy type to sort out. My large shop type fridge stopped cooling - fan and light etc work it's just not getting cold. I don't know anything about fixing fridges, and I've already got a replacement so I've no need to try and mend it. If anyone thinks they could fix it - your welcome to it FOC - otherwise it'll go to the tip in a week or two. It'll easily take a red hind or smaller stag (Scottish forestry rather than Norfolk monster) - Based near Settle North Yorkshire
  17. I’ve been using an andrew James sealer for donkeys, it’s on its last legs now but after years of use, I’m going to replace it like for like. They’re about £40. It’ will easily cope with processing and packing a red stag in one session. I did find it got a little overworked when a friend asked if I could bag up some dog food and then turned up with a 20kg sack to pack into individual portions.
  18. Really glad it worked for you - great method isn’t it?
  19. The cloud of WiFi signal coming from any wireless transmitter is donut shaped with the transmitter/antenna filling the ‘hole’ do the donut, or think of a figure of 8 on its side with the transmitter being on the thinnest point in the middle. When physically connected to your PC, that’s going to put your pc in the very middle of that hole too. Move them away from each other and the signal coverage should be much better at your PC.
  20. wave as you go past mate 😀
  21. Snowing like a good'un here in the Dales. Just bumped into a couple of 'hikers' who were setting off up a local mountain - chatted to them about the logic in heading up in 40mph constant wind and the 60-70 gusts but apparently they'll be OK ... beggars belief!
  22. I'm glad to hear it worker 👍
  23. What did you opt for in the end?
  24. Number 4 😀 I’ve given up on matching socks these days.
