I know a few members make their own sloe gin, I have been fortune enough to get my hands on some over the years.
However, I am now looking for recommendations for "shop bought" sloe gin.
There seems to be quite a few options out there, but can anyone vouch for something that tastes like the "real thing" ?

I had a bottle of sipsmith sloe gin this year as a treat - went down very well

The Plymouth gin one is alright if you see it too

I think it 'might' have been there the last time I used/cleaned it when I looked down the barrels but never thought much of it but It's deffo not moving so will fire some more and see if it goes.

Just out of interest, my Webley & Scott cleaning kit was my Xmas pressie in 1976 which comprises of 2 wooden sticks, a brass looking wire and lambswool very well used attachments along with a couple of rags and a seagull feather. . . . . maybe I might have to invest in something more modern as my 3rd can of Napier gun oil is about empty?

    How would I tell?

Try using a Payne Galway brush on the end of your rods with the Phillips bore cleaner sprayed and left on for 30 mins. Should clear it and worth having for your cleaning kit!

The brass brushes wear down over time and don't make contact as well as when new.....sounds like yours have cleaned their fair share of barrels!

  3. Not sure on the new 4-in-1 taps, but we installed a Caple 3-in-1 tap into my mums house when it was renovated 10 years ago it's been great. Still working well with minimal maintenance to date (touch wood).

No one has hurt themselves so far, but I agree if you have little ones (and their friends) using it unsupervised then I might be cautious about it as the water comes out boiling after a second or two max.

The suggestion about chucking it across the patio....im on the point of renaming her Henry after the hoover as it is!! The slightest crumb on the floor disappears in a fraction of a second!

I had heard labs were greedy so I'm starting her steadiness off at dinner time making her wait now before being allowed into her bowl. I think I might give one of them weird bowls a go and see what happens, who knows it might be entertaining to watch 😄

We’ve got a lab and use those bowls and they’re helpful! They still try to go full tilt but the bowl has definitely slowed him down.

    Andrew,

Many thanks for that, but they seem to be HP steel if that`s what `Supreme` means.

I will make enquiries to Just cartridges,

    Thanks,

Followed the link and they are in 65mm cases, so likely standard steel.

    They are standard steel

See below image from the Lyvale Catalogue of their non-toxic offerings (though note they are plastic wad)

    That's a great find

I have been looking for just the one for ages and have found nothing but the odd very well used one!

I was almost there until my daughter smashed my phone and list the contact details of a guy selling one!

    Are they self openers?

    Argh that's so irritating!

They are - but I think it's more assisted opener than true self opener. They're nice to use though if you need to reload quickly.

Yeah I hadn't planned to buy a pair but then they came along it was just right place right time. And 27 inch barrels don't seem to be that popular so there are bargains to be had if you can find them!

If you don't mind me asking what kind did you buy?

Not at all - a pair of Gold Sables. I'd been wanting a nice sidelock for a while, as I like shooting with a sxs, and when these came along I got two for the price of one (at least in my mind 😂)

  10. I have a matched pair that I bought at auction recently - no one else bid and my bid was a bit speculative so not sure what the market is like. I have no intention of shooting them on double gun days - I'm using the more worn of the two for rough shooting & clays whilst I'll save the other for the occasional driven day. Just like the idea of being able to pick up a spare gun and not have to change anything.

Not sure on steel shot issue - these are 1/4 & 1/2 so no issues with standard steel. Apparently the gentleman selling them was giving up shooting (he had another very nice pair in the same auction).
