  1. ITS A PUP!!.. that's what pups do. Let him be a pup. He'll grow out of it soon enough. No need to grab him by the neck or throat to scold him, jeez..enjoy him as he grows up. On the training side of things, He is a baby at three months old, only so much his brain can take in.
  2. The amount of lead shot litter back them days and even today in rural Ireland would be next to no risk, well compared to England the amount of shots fired, it would only be a pin in the ocean.. so chances of a partridge picking up lead pellet as grit would be near zero, compared to them picking up chemical fertilizers we call" bag stuff " eg 18_6-12 small pellet sized fertilizer they definitely would and definitely did pick and got poisoned one way or another from it. Along with all the major intense agricultural practices habitat destruction etc ..destroyed grey partridge populations.
  3. Correct konor.. and also the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REGIONAL GAME COUNCILS (NARGC)has done and still does huge work on grey partridge projects.. and it was them that advised to take grey partridge of quarry list year's ago. Intensive farming and everything that goes along with it,from the 50's with the use of DDT sprays was the start of the demise of grey partridge. DEFINITELY NOT LEAD PELLETS.
  4. Beautiful, strong, intelligent looking pup. Best of luck 👍
  5. Bought a sack of 16 bore of mixed shells years ago, from a dealer, a recent widow at time handed them in to him, probably about 300 or more in it. €50.. then there was another dealer closing down, got 20 boxes of hull three crowns paper case for €5 a box. But to buy them at the moment off the shelf if you can get them they would be expensive.. the gun doesn't get used often.
  6. That old greener 16 can fairly hammer pigeons (and anything else for that matter) Choked full and full both barrels. Beautiful sweet handling gun
  7. I was looking at the sealed bid. The first couple of sxs in boxlock ejector section are nice webley and scotts, and that's what comes up that there are bids on them, same some sidelock have same. But 90% of the guns I looked at dont.I put a cheeky bid on a sxs. Well see tomorrow if it comes up trumps 🙂
  8. Kavanagh on the right, trulock and Harris on left .both made in Dublin . greener 16 bore hammer on top. My work horse. Winchester 23 supergrade.
  9. Mmm. I definitely am not accustomed to how the sealed bid process works. But to me you can see if someone has put in a bid. Or maybe I'm looking at the thing completely wrong. I only registered with holts a week ago.. all very new to me.
  10. I'm following and tracking some guns in colts auction, tomorrow. There seems to be hardly any bids on the guns. Is this normal, do people bid last minute or is no interest in the guns?
  11. There's dozens of them down at the lake now. Seen the first 2 flying round the house yesterday.
  12. Well done.. A hide in middle of a bare field would never, ever work over here. No way pigeons would fall into that trap. Even if they had never been shot at.
  13. Lovely snap marsh man,I think if shooting, wildfowling, is in your blood , dog's will be too. I couldn't imagine life without dogs in it. All mine are hard working dogs in the shooting season, but are my friends and companions all year round. Get another pup mash man, you owe it to yourself .. Below is bramble, snap was taken near end of December just gone. he is 12 in June. He is my eldest dog at the moment. He still gets out for a good run, as he is as keen as he was at 3 years old. All be it he is stone deaf. And he still does what he's bred to do, be it ducks or woodcock.. I'd like to see him do another bit come this season, because like all good working dogs, they live to work. Even in their dreams their working.
  14. Unbelievable amount of guns
  15. I have tried them all, well most of them anyway, and the f blu are as good a cartridge ever made. I have been using them since 2011 /2012. When I can get them. Hard got here now, f blacks no problem, or any f3's but not f blu. They were never a budget cartridge here though same price as blacks. I always preferred them over the blacks.. absolutely mustard on pigeons too 👍.. f blacks are around €330/340 a k here.
  16. I have been looking at some of the guns for auction in holts sealed bid on the 11th April. I'm not really sure how the whole process works but I think I have the jist of it. Most of the guns seem to be brilliant value. Several hundred sxs between sidelock, Boxlock, ejector, non ejector , etc.. not to mention all the other type of guns and equipment. Have any of you went the process and bought a gun through holts??
  17. Any day ya get a few boxes of cartridges FOC not a bad day fellside, and as you said they broke Clay's as good as any, an old saying here " ya still need to put right address on them " 👍. Express cartridges can't be got over here anymore, north or south , not that I know off any way. Last express I bought were pigeon power 29g 6's. Brilliant hard hitting cartridges. About 6 or 7 years ago. Their power gold trap cartridges were also a lovely smooth cartridge. As were their pro comp, I used them alot over 20 years ago. I think they went a bit crazy with their prices. So who were taking them in stopped.
  18. They will probably be the same price as 28g cartridges, or even more expensive seen as they are 61/2.. always a scam in the making.. on that note is Express still developing cartridges, since fiocchi bought them out? Or is it fiocchi?
  19. They tend to arrive here between now and 1st week of April some times as late as 2nd week . I think the earliest I seen one was the 18th of March a good few years ago. Brilliant wee bird.
  20. The first swallows have arrived!! I seen half a dozen this evening at the lake under my house. Swooping high and low for insects. Anyone else seen them yet? Its still harsh, hasky March weather, they have their work cut out.
  21. Very good. What year is forester? Can you get a new one in a diesel still?
