  1. Hi, There was an article in our local paper yesterday ( East Anglian Daily Times)saying about eating squirrels but it concluded that to shoot them you need a specific game licence. My understanding is they are classed as vermin and can be shot all year round without any game licence. Before I write a letter correcting the paper, I thought a sanity check is needed. Am I right, or is the newspaper?
  2. He was entirely right in my opinion and its no different to how some kids like to emminate they are aussies by using typical aussie launguage mostly picked up by watching soaps I suspect, its so often you hear...."how are you today, I'm good thanks, good?? One is not asking of ones behavior, more their health!!But am I racist to point this out, in that some of society act like those 12000 miles down under??? There are several young lads in our village and local town who walk and talk like the black pop idiols that are on the music channels all day, they won't shake hands, instead expect you to touch fists knuckle to knuckle, if thats all they see, then that is all they know, certainly its sometimes odd seeing a born and bred Suffolk lad talking like an East End rapper, but its there and its real, thats who they look up to, ask them who Winston Churchill is and I suspect they would not have a clue...........liberals just need to get real with it too!
  3. I thought all were magnum and hence can fire 3 inch rounds and the double magnum fires 3.5 inch rounds. I would think carefully before buying either, mine was always jamming up and got shot of it, see previous posts. Admiral
  4. That is amazing, the only time I thought they did not shatter was when the rounds do not hit anything solid and simply pass right through, certainly all the head shots I have had, ended up blowing a large hole or more on the other side. I have fired through wood as a target several inches thick and the bullet passes straight through, so not sure why your bullets have been stopped by a rabbit skull. Anyone else any clues?
  5. What part of Suffolk are you in?? If south side, try Mallards Wattisham, or venture over the border to Colchester Shooting Suppliers near Colchester, worth the trip if buying quite a few and not going every couple of weeks.
  6. Essex Shooting supplies just outside Colchester are good and also have good stock of FAC rounds. Fennes as mentioned above now have a shop but yet to visit it. If not try Mallards Barn shop in Wattisham, Richard there has a good range of rounds and other items. There is one in Newton Green near Sudbury, but despite being just up the road, I have not been in, not sure they are that cheap! Admiral
  7. Hi - try F A Anderson in East Grinstead Sussex. They are on net and I rang through to them for one and it was sent in post.
  8. As someone said earlier.....Hatsun.......broken?? !! I would cut ya losses and sell it when its fixed or indeed get a refund from the shop you bought it from under the Sale of Goods Act. I did just that, as there is nothing worse than being in the field with a gun that fouls up on you. Mine went back several times and it got so I never trusted it, resulting in taking a spare gun with me just in case. The Escort looks great, I still have an affection for them and may buy one again, but it will be like a nuclear missile launcher or a fine old classic car, wheeled out washed, polished and put back in the garage......but I would never use it.
  9. Thank you all for your replies, I feel much more comfortable now and will certainly be far more careful if I get a click and not the normal crack of fire. I agree very short range shots do not produce any sound, but better safe than sorry. I was using that evening (and always have used) Federal Premium V Shok with black tips. I am always so careful with shotguns and regular check the barrels are clear of any obstruction, I will be checking the old HMR now too with far more respect, even if I scare off the rabbits now and then. Anyway its still an amazing rifle
  10. I was out rabbit shooting last night, aimed up for the next rabbit, squeezed the trigger and just had a click, immediate thoughts was I had not ejected out last round, so did so, despite thinking I had and there indeed ejected a spent round. Then I could not get the bolt to close fully, tried several attempts and had to give up and go home. My friend tonight has found the problem, the bullet had travelled about 2 inches if that and jammed in the barrel, he used a 17HMR rod and it popped back out intact. His theory is either a bad round or my barrel was dirty ( I have to admit it had not been cleaned for a while, as many on PW had suggested no need to clean every time out). Anyone have any clues? Also my major concern is what if that bullet had made it another inch down the barrel and I managed to load in another one behind it and it fired, would I now be playing a harp on a cloud somewhere, or would the two rounds have fired out clearing the barrel?? :( Thanks if anyone can share a view on this. The gun must have had 500 rounds through it since new and is about 2 years old, being faultless until now. Admiral
  11. For pigeons I always use 6 shot 32g clear pigeon gamebore and find they are an excellent all round cartridge, I have even shot clays with them on a private field when low of clay rounds, again perfect. I sometimes switch to 4 or 5 shot 36g Buffalo rounds when pigeons are high flying, but that ends up being rather expensive. As for chokes, my main guns are fixed (1/4-3/4) and 1/2-full) and to be honest I can never tell any difference
  12. Hi and Happy New Year !! I currently have a standard TV, Video Recorder and DVD Surround Sound System (all Sony), so play CDs/DVDs on the surround and record what little TV I need on the old video. Well the DVD surround has now gone wrong and has been thrown out. What would be the best thing to replace it with - I guess the video needs retiring too. Do I get: New DVD Recorder and a new DVD surround sound system, or is their a better way forward?? I have freeview but not interested in sky. Whats better now Plamsa TVs or LEDs?? Also Where does Blue Ray fit in? Can you get a blue ray surround sound system, or blue ray recorder, or is blue ray just a player on its own? Many Thanks Admiral
  13. I have seen some very different shot sizes recently locally for sale and do understand the smaller shot sizes, i.e 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 but then what and which is larger than what out of the following I have seen, 2, 1, BB, AAA, SG or is it as simple as that ?? Or is a 1 shot much the same as a BB ?
