  1. Hard to say but looks like medlar fruit.
  2. Nicely done, but of a shame for DB though.
  3. Looks like a variegated poplar, I’ll remember the name in a bit.
  4. That’s a cracking bag by any standard, I bet you enjoyed that especially with the 28 bore.
  5. No I shut my right eye as i did on the other shoulder. I have never been able to shoot with both eyes open.
  6. Thanks MM , I’m more natural right handed but in the the last couple of outings I’m on about 60% kill to cartridge ratio so not far off what I used to average on the other shoulder. I think if my eye was fixed I probably would go back. I do get frustrated some times but have to remind myself I’m not on my natural side, so it’s all good. Cheers.
  7. I was very chuffed, I was hoping for 50 ish . Cheers mate. Thanks.
  8. The field of peas I shot with my brother two weeks ago for 143, seemed to be getting attention from the pigeons again. I wasn’t quite sure where to set up as there 3 big fields all together. I decided on what I believed was a flight line along a dyke. I only had 6 silo socks so that’s what I set up with. I had a steady day and was very surprised and happy to pick 108. This I’m sure is my first solo ton since I had to change shoulders last year due to eye damage.
  9. I spotted a small hole in a field of barley and pigeons were dropping in. They soon find it.
  10. Fantastic day, lm glad it came good for you.
  11. I have dogs , and a lot dropped into the eaten bit in front.

The local eel man makes more money on the crabs than eels, apparently the Chinese live them and pay a premium for them.
  13. The farmer was very happy, he’s text me several other fields of mustard and peas that are getting hammered. There’s always pigeons in this area it seems.
  14. As Saturday is my birthday and my kids like to see their dad on this day I decided to take Friday afternoon off work for a little go at some pigeons. There’s a Mustard field around my work depot with a few pigeons going in , so I checked with the farmer if it was ok and he was happy for me to have a go. I didn’t expect much as when I check the field it was never that busy.At 12 o’clock I set up with my back against a hedge on a 90 degree corner as the field is L shaped, this way any birds should see my set up from all directions. I only had 6 silosocks and 6 half shell decoys to start with. I was expecting to have a slow but steady afternoon and I was hoping for about 30 birds. I just got in the hide and one went past on my left which I shot and carefully marked it in the tall mustard. A few seconds later one straight into the decoys and down. Now I had two for the rotary, this I put out to my right hand side. The pigeons came in with confidence and in flurries and in half an hour I had 15 down. Now I expected it to slow down from this point, but they just kept coming in. I shot until 3 30 as I said I’ll be home by 4.30 ish I picked up 91 pigeons and a jackdaw. I was very happy with my afternoon off.

Not a single mention of mit crabs. My local rivers are swarming with them.
  16. A few years ago, Motty bought a job lot of cartridges, in that Lott was loads of 28 gram 9s We used them on decoying pigeons to good effect, in fact quite surprising how far they killed. I would say 8 s would be fine to 40 yards decoying birds.
  17. Nice outing, especially so soon after you last shot it. 👍
  18. I did see one yesterday. I shot the lead bird and missed the second and noticed it was a young one.
  19. That’s a nice afternoon, I’m always happy with 10 an hour. 👍
  20. We certainly did thank you. I never sure if anyone is interested! When we left yesterday, a field about half a Mile away was covered with pigeons. Hopefully it will shoot again, the main problem is that farmer plants in massive blocks and as you know it’s easier on smaller plots. We did manage a 103 a couple of weeks back on some set aside. This fields peas are about 8 inches high I’d say. The amount of pigeons around this area is staggering couple of winters ago a rape field in this area had more pigeons on it than I could even estimate, it was phenomenal, he was pulling his hair out.
  21. I have been shooting a farm for about 4 years now after taking a decade to get the confidence of the farmer to allow me to shoot it. The farm is very large and has an abundance of pigeons, but I have really struggled to do any good on this farm, my best being 60. I have been watching his pea fields and the numbers have built up nicely, so last Sunday I had a little go and managed 0, birds all over just couldn’t get them to decoy. Today in the strong breeze I decided to try again. I set up with the wind coming from my left almost into my face, against a pylon with some Elder bushes growing underneath.I set up this way as there’s a main road about 100 yards behind it and the pigeons seem to like it near the road. I had two birds for the rotary and a few half shells. I was ready about 10 o’clock and soon had my first customer in and down. The birds quite often came from behind and needed to be ready for some snap shots. I had about 40 down when my brother came to join me for the afternoon. The pigeons came in flurry’s and as we have shot together for decades, he would take the lead bird and I would have the rear bird. This way in the strong wind we maximised i chances. Around 3.30 we decided they’d had enough so we picked up and collected 143. I was happy to let the farmer know how we’d done and at last had managed to produce a big bag.
  22. I know it all very well, as I work on that river and district. Good luck today.
