  1. I used to run a shoot over two SSSIs. Releasing and/or shooting game and wildfowl was classed as an activity requiring NE consent on one of the SSSIs, where the designation was due to botanical interest. The other SSSI was designated for its geological interest, so game management was not an activity requiring consent. I did get an assent granted by NE for shooting over the botanical SSSI, but wasn’t allowed a release pen there to minimise the effect of birds scratching up the rare plants and lichens. My advice would be to check the list of controlled activities on the magic.gov .uk website then, if necessary talk to your local NE advisor.
  2. Looking for a .177 air rifle, either break barrel or CO2 with scope and moderator. BSA, Crosman, etc. North Derbyshire or South Yorks
  3. Are you intending to take on an exclusive lease of the rights or is it a licence granting you permission to exercise the sporting rights? I have held both but the lease required the services of a solicitor, the licence didn’t but is still a wordy document. If you are paying a considerable amount of rent for the sporting rights then a properly drafted agreement is a good idea to protect your interest. if you need example docs please feel free to PM me.
  4. Thanks, just for plodding round our wood. Not too bothered about the neighbours, as long as they’re quieter than a chainsaw. I’ll send you a PM. thanks, I’ll look those up👍

  6. Looking at buying a quad bike for my 8 year old daughter. I wondered if anyone has one of the 800/1000w electric Kids quads and if they’re any better than a 50cc petrol? The lack of piston rings to change appeals to me!
  7. Used Aspen in my saws for years. Expensive but seem to save on repairs to the block. Seems to work best in the newer saws with microchips.
  8. My favourite Bader quote- “Rules are for the guidance of wise men and for the blind obedience of fools.”
  9. Timbrel used to be the one for brambles , until HSE banned it a couple of years ago. I think roundup's about all that's left of any use.
  10. I noticed his obituary in the Telegraph today. He was an important scientific voice for shooting and was an authority on the grey partridge. https://www.gwct.org.uk/news/news/2017/april/****-potts-(1939-2017)/
  11. If you are looking for a weapon for HEMA use Leon Paul sell a long sword I believe, not cheap though!
  12. First car I drove was my mother's old 1960s Mini Countryman, with real timber cladding on the rear (not the laminate stuff seen on the later clubmans). Believe it had an 850 cc engine as was fairly gutless but a great car to learn in.
  13. I travelled in one of these years ago and it was a very capable off road vehicle. I think they were converted to 4wd by County tractor manufacturers.
  14. The Bridge, not hugely expensive and mine has lasted years.
  15. There are some environmental requirements if he has BPS entitlements. If he has significant arable land he may have to meet the 'greening' condition. I've just applied for a mid-tier countryside stewardship agreement, which wasn't too onerous. I'm informed by our NE adviser that higher tier is competitive with funding being allocated according to regional habitat/species priorities.
  16. Steinhart make some nice looking reproduction 40s style pilot watches, with Swiss ETA movements. Worth a look.
  17. Good work BASC and well done to all who complained to the Council's standards board.
  18. Look into joining NPPC and see if one of their existing members will take you out. It's not free but I seem to recall they have land in the Skipton area. Best of luck
  19. Thanks for the advice chaps, I'll see how they perform a small vermin then.
  20. I have some 12g cartridges with BB size shot (lead). I was given them my a friend who had shot a few foxes with them. My question is, are they suitable for any other quarry (without making an almighty mess)?
