  1. last winter , two of us were shooting a roost wood , when i had to answer the call of nature , with fag in mouth and gun under arm , i proceeded to relieve myself ; when a woody came straight across the field towards me . without thinking i took my gun from under my arm and shot him (still with fag in mouth and still peeing) , the woody proceded to carry on towards me (dead) which caused me to duck and you can guess what happened (wet leg and burned lip)
  2. in no particular order Miroku/Browning (same thing) Kreighof AYA Cogswell and Harrison Thomas Bland the last one was a 30" boxlock "live pigeon gun" choke 1/2 & full and it was a pure pigeon killing machine and as far as an English gun was concerned cheap , the bloke who owned it only paid £1270 for it

    Fox loads

just tried some remmington "turkey load" 3.5" 2.5 oz no4 , with1/2 choke they leave a hole about 3" across at 30 yds. yes it didn't move after that hit it . i won't be using them to regular at £9 for 10
  4. personally i dont even bother what the cartridge has on it or what its for i only use danarms 32g no6 as i get them cheap and in bulk and they suit all my guns . i also have 34g 7.5(english 7) rio's which are fitasc cartridges and can out perform most others , but they are too expensive . as for chance shots even at clays ,they still must be in range which in my case i am happy to shoot at clays out to 60 yds+ but wouldn't push game more than 50yds
  5. Hammergun wrote "Sporting cartridges tend to be 2 3/4" to pack in more propellant for longer shots (which aren't sporting for live game)" what do you class as a longer shot? and at what range isn't sporting at live game
  6. the way to look at this is how many pellets from the cartridge reach the range at a given choke i.e in 30g load of no6 average 287 pellets , percentage of pellets at 35 yds in 1/4 choke 65% therefore 287x65/100 =186 pellets at 35 yds 1/4 choke has a spread of 41 inches no 7 in true cyl at 35yds will be 361x49/100=177 pellets this will have a spread of 38 ins so this will be an extreamly thin pattern no 7 in 1/4 at 35 yds 361x65 /100=234 pellets but all these are in perfect conditions and with "standard" sizes . my Miroku patterns tighter than the browing due to the bore of the barrel ( browning is back bored) but is slacker than the aya , so anything that is written is not as accurate as real life . every one slated George Digweed for the "90 yd shot" but it was perfectly feaseable with his gun , cartridges and ability . as for me i use 32 g of no 6 through 3/8 and 1/2 in the miroku and 5/8 in the browning and they pattern to 50 yds ok
  7. check the prices here http://www.justcartridges.come
  8. the general concensus is that hunting will be banned either as a whole or in sutch a restricted form that it might as well been banned altogether. whatever , shooting will be next , call it pest control if you like , it doent matter 1 bit they want it stopped . the CA and BASC will let it happen . then the only ones to blame are those of you that voted labour without thinking . but some of us will not lie down and to quote Winston Churchill (foxhunter and shooter) "we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, "
  9. try their site , world cups are in 7.5 -9 there are supreme in 6.5 but the price is high . super comps are in 6's http://www.expresscartridges.com/UK/index.htm
  10. im currently using 32g no5 Danarms (made by express) which turn out to be about 1430 fps . they are very similar in speed and recoil to express super comps. try also Hull soverigen they are clay shell but they do no 6 and 7 in 32 g
  11. with all the arguments about "big bags" baiting is the last thing anyone should contemplate . is it then pest control or just the numbers game

    Tim's Birthday!

i got my self a present a browning camo semi auto (to extravigant , i know) but it didnt look right on the shelf at nwss
  13. the "gun packs" have been around for years and extreamly efficent at fox control , if a fox is shot and still runs on the hounds will soon find and finish him off (that is now illegal in scotland though) but it does show that a wounded animal is not left to suffer
  14. maplins have the 12v 7ah for £19.99 inc vat . i would try that sort of shop (tandy)
  15. the pecker has a round tube which pivots on a cam on a motor , a peg is pushed in the ground and the tube over the top and away it pecks
