Well I work on a farm but also look after the farm shoot! Winter time I spend most of my time beating, shooting and working my dogs!
  1. Made by Welsh pit bikes with stomp racing engine, only ever been ridden around fields, runs sweet and starts first time just needs a new foot gear lever looking for £350 based in Norfolk
  2. After several nights out lamping and not seeing anything my luck changed today. I was on the way back to the farm yard when I noticed a fox ambling along in one of our rape fields as I got closer to it thought it would take off but wasn't at all bothered by me so rushed home to get the rifle ( luckily only live 2minutes away) and bombed back to the field and headed to where I thought it might be heading but there was no sign of the fox I climb on the back of the gator to have a better look but thought my chance had gone with that 60yards away fox pops head up out the rape, got it in my sights and whack down it went! Was a small vixen that had early stages of mange!
  3. Family shoot in Swaffham area requires 4 beaters for the coming season due to increasing the shoot size. £30 pay plus a light lunch! Below are the dates please Pm for more details! Thanks Matt 31st October 21st November 12th December 2nd January 23rd January
  4. put him on a lead and say no then reinforce the sit command
  5. I had same problem with mine in end i use to have him on the lead sit him up rap the lead around his neck so it wasnt dangling around and i could still grab hold of him if needed, take a few steps back and then gave him the recall gradually over time increase the distance slowly, worked ok for me. you gota keep on at um tho as they will just take the pee cheeky lil ******* hope yours turn out ok Matty
  6. Well had our beaters day last thursday manage to get few pics of me shooting good day was had by all ended the day with 241, i then got a call from the keeper few days later asking if i fancied another walk round as there was still to many old cocks about so this saturday went and shot another 151 so not a bad bit of shooting to end the season

  8. Hi Jimmyb This may not be right but I was incorporating the heel work with the quartering and it worked for me, when I started getting the dog to quarter I had him on the lead to heal and walked the pattern giving a peep or two peeps (what ever you want to use) when i turned, once i notice the dog was starting to turn with the peep I had him off the lead to heal doing exactly the same. Then I would still walk the pattern but let the dog hunt away from me off the lead setting a point I would let the dog get to then give him the peep to turn and every now and then I would chuck a tennis ball or dummy few yards in front of me as he was going away to find on the way back if that makes sense. Good luck with the dog tho Matt
  9. hi paul71pc At 12months old I wouldn’t personally take her out till next season or even maybe show her a couple near the end of the season, the less they see when young the better dog you’ll have, you could undo all your hard work if you show her too much. Good luck with it though matt
  10. I don’t tend to walk mine before training as have found they get bit tired and lose interest but it wouldn’t hurt just to let her have a mad 5mins before training to get rid of a bit of energy. But I would just take her on a walk as well, when on a walk if you can trust her off the lead just keep calling her back to you when she gets to a distance you feel comfortable with or even try a long lead as you still have the control wile letting her have a bit of freedom. Matty
  11. Hi there turk101 I’m no expert but ill try answer a few of your questions. Sounds like you are on the right track with the training I would carry on with the sitting, staying, recalling, walking to heal etc but wouldn’t go onto anything more advance until these are 100%. In my experience 10mins of training a day is fine to start with and just increase it as she progresses and your doing the right things by keeping it all fun but if you tell her to do something make sure she dose it when you tell her not when she wants. With her laying down when you walk away I’ve found that as you increase the distance that you walk away from them they will sit up to see where you are so I wouldn’t worry to much. With regards to her rolling over when she comes in from the recall I wouldn’t worry to much as you want her to know that coming back to you is fun and the area around you is fun I’ve found that "good girl" with a bit of a tickle then stand up and get her to sit before you carry on with the training works well, as you progress with her you can give her a pip on the whistle as she comes into you to sit her up. With getting a spaniel to heal it is a battle just persist at it when on the lead tell her heal once and every time she gets to far yank on the lead and just keep at it the message will get through eventually. Don’t do to many retrieves as I’ve found they got bored of that very easily. But good luck with it and keep up the good work!! Matty
