  1. Thanks for the reply. Sorry, but I'm sorted now. Good luck with the sale though.
  2. If you are up in Whitchurch sometime and they haven't gone, I'll have those off you please. I'll drop you a pm.
  3. Cheers Harry - nice talking to you and I'll drop you a message about collection shortly. All sorted now thanks chaps.
  4. Hi Harry, if you PM your number to me I'll call you about it. Cheers, Chris.
  5. I've actually been looking at a 1200 just like yours Foxbasher. Nice job on the woodwork by the way! Accurate enough and not too heavy? It is a lot better than a chunk of plastic isn't it? And it clover-leafs too!
  6. I'm looking for a light(ish) .243 for some foxing in the dark. My .223 is a heavy barreled beast that sucks the fun out of it. I quite like the idea of an old BSA or Parker Hale and as long as it still holds a group I don't mind sorting out dings and gouges in the woodwork if need be. Ideally screw-cut, even better with a mod though. Better still with brass and dies. There must be loads of unfashionable stuff in the back of cabinets not getting used- anyone got something suitable? I'm about 20 miles South of Chester. I don't have a massive budget and I'd be buying new if I did. Just after a cheapie for a few hundred quid really.
  7. Pretty sure it fits me better now I've messed with it, but there was a definite vertical drop between the 40yd and 50yd paper targets I shot. At 50 yds I had hardly any pellets above the centre line of the 30" circle. I'll post back when I've shot 40 and 50 with cyl. It is a 36gram load and I'm using 36 grains of powder to launch it with a cx2000 primer. Should be 1400fps ish.
  8. I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd share my recent frustrations. I was shooting some steel commercial goose loads and was a bit disappointed with some shots that I thought should have killed outright. On examination the No.1 shot inside turned out to be No.3 by everyone elses measurements, so I got some components and a Lee Loadall and started loading No.1's in 3in cases on top of alliant steel. 36gram loads. The thing that really, really narks me is that I have to use plastic wads and there is no sensible alternative for the steel homeloader. I'm still learning, but I've moved away from half choke down to Improved Cyl following some patterning. I need to pattern Cyl yet...just not had time. At 40 yds Imp was far better than half. At 50yds, both were very low on the paper, suggesting a real drop off in trajectory, so much so that I've messed with the shims on the semi auto I'm shooting it with. It could have been me, or it could have dropping like a brick and running out of steam. I've not been back to the pattern tests after the shimming, so that should be interesting. I also find it very difficult to obtain decent load data and I don't want to buy 10 different manuals costing hundreds as they'll all just have a short section on steel. It's very frustrating and I really wish a biodegradable plastic-type wad was available for the reloading community. I'll carry on experimenting as I enjoy it and there's great satisfaction from taking birds with home loaded ammo. You can't really blame the ammo when you miss either!
  9. They are passed for .22 Hornet as well and do a pretty decent job. Good luck with your sale.
  10. These are proper 80's throwbacks and a built like tanks. Very well engineered (Japanese) and have chrome barrels and great triggers. I picked a trap gun up last year and have been using on the pigeons. Can't put it down! Quality gun and much underated. Good luck with the sale.
  11. Hi Tightchoke, Thanks. I have, but he's not got back to me yet.
  12. Looking for a set of Lanber barrels with ejectors. Multichoke would be preferred. Can probably decide if they'll fit from a photo. Would consider whole gun if you have something with a battered/broken stock, but I only really want barrels to go on stock I want to keep.
  13. Hi Bosher,

Ooops... I've blown up my Lanber. It's spat out a choke tube and split the barrel. If you get an o/u ejector in with a duff stock I'd be up for the barrels.

    Cheers, Chris.

  14. Sorry, got sorted with a virtually new Hatsan now. He was similar distance away. Hideous thing - cammo dippped, but the intention is to use it as a tool as opposed to treating it as a thing of beauty. Not shot it yet...maybe I'll be a convert when I do. If not, It'll be back on here soon. Good luck with your sale.
  15. Will it take steel shot too? Looking for a pigeon gun and my mate has hawks but won't feed lead-shot birds to them. I really dont fancy slinging steel down anything I have at the moment.
  16. Ha ha, yes it might just be a new one ?. Well spotted sir! There's also an old Lanber o/u sleeved up behind the net. Not sure which one I shot best with....not much in it. Very sporting little birds. I was shooting 6's but 7.5's would have been ample and a bit denser I think.
  17. I was desparate to get out on the pigeons, but despite a good drive round with the bins yesterday all I could find were some crows on freshly sprouted maize at the side of a wood on the shoot where I beat. I didn't really know what to expect as I've never bothered much with crows but I really wanted some shooting. I had a phone round today and couldn't scrounge any crow decoys off my mates, so I just set up a dozen pigeon shells and waited. First action was a couple of pigeons. Good start! Then nothing, but I was about 200m away from the line the crows were using. Packed it all up and moved. Good decision! I had a fairly steady stream of birds over me and as my crow pattern started to build I started to pull them in. I ended up with 38 jackdaws and the two pigeons. Lost about half a dozen in the wood behind too. A couple of left and rights, so pretty happy. Challenging little birds and faster than they look - I'm sure some dodged through the middle of the pattern too! https://www.dropbox.com/s/9484tyylseo99fk/20180528_172838.jpg?dl=0
  18. One of the bailiffs at the fishing club lounges round on the platform in shorts with his top off whilst everyone else zips into their bivvies with mesh mozzie panels on the front. He puts his lack of bites down to taking garlic tablets before his season kicks in. Never tried it myself, but that's what he told me. I have another mate who fishes in Scotland a lot and he reckons the midges are not really deterred by anything - and he assures me he's been through the lot. At least you have soft skin after using the Avon SSS ?
  19. Yes, thank you. It is highly similar. The engraving pattern is very slightly different and the pattern of pins is different too. Mine is probably an older vesion of that one.
  20. Good point! It had never occured to me they would be the other round. I'll see if I can gauge the offset with a straight edge. He's gone quiet about it now. I won't mention it again and he might even forget I've got it.
  21. The sad thing is....he's actually got more money than me! I have a slight overdraft situation until the end of the month now. The serial number is 110179. Good excuse to get your book back?
