    Air arms s400f

    I refil at 100, but I don't go below 110 when hunting.
  3. Being honest and showing respect always seems to pay dividends in the long term Well done.
  4. i thought that I'd give this account to encourage others. I have rabbit permission on a small field, which led to some shooting also being given by an adjacent landowner on the next field where horses are grazed. It is still a very small area, but one that if you can take your time you can drag out a slow stalk round it to 30 mins. I went up there the other night and had 4 nice rabbits with the air rifle (I also use a moderated Mossberg .410 sometimes). As I was packing them and the rifle away I noticed a 4x4 parking a hundred yards down the lane. Now when I've been out shooting in the past I always have tried to chat to other farmers and people who I meet; mainly to let them know that I am sorting out a rabbit problem for specific people and not poaching as a bit of that goes on around the area. I've never gained any other permission this way but kept trying. So I hung on for a bit to see what they were up to. Anyway, the lady walked up and asked if I had been out shooting. It turns out that she owns 20 acres across the road on an area I had always noticed rabbits covering. A 5 acre hay field, and the remaining 15 of rough grazing with a rocky ridge which provides brilliant stalking cover. She asked me if I would start shooting there too as she is being plauged with rabbits. We ended up talking about rabbit recepies.and found out we knew a few people in common from my old village. Just goes to show, sometimes opportunities can jump out when you least expect them.
  5. I got a pair of 8x42 Vanguard Platinum binoculars half price a while ago, they are down to £119 here http://www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk/c/574/Vanguard-Binoculars.html I've been very pleased at the quality for the price, they are tough and waterproof and at dusk they really extend the time that I can see.
  6. Good quality sunglasses with plastic lenses should give adequate protection if you wanted to avoid paying for a specialist pair. But ARCO or similar do certified safety sunglasses in wrap round styles from about a fiver. I used to get them in for my work crews and they were very popular.
  7. I have a Silver Pigeon 3 sporter, one of the limited edition ones with extra engraving and grade of wood. When my dad gave up shooting he gave me his standard SP 1, it's a game gun with shorter barrels, so if I am going to be walking round all day with only a few expected shots I'll take that. I do shoot better with the heavier 30" barreled gun though, but both are similar enough that it doesn't make a huge difference.
  8. As with many others here I do not rely on a safety, although with my pump .410 I often chamber a cartridge and then keep the gun in a safe position pointing skywards as I approach to take the shot. When game shooting we all either have guns broken with safety also on or if closed then again held with the barrels in a safe direction. The only accidents I have personally had were shooting at a tree with a .22 air rifle when a pellet bounced straight back and hit me in the front tooth, and shooting a home made spear gun out of water in New Zealand at plastic animals in front of the house wall. The blunt spear bounced back and hit my little brother butt first right between the eyes. We were only 6 and 8 years old at the time.
  9. I have recently signed as a referee for SGC and FAC and my occupation was area manager. Although I do work alongside gov' departments and the emergency services so that may have helped.
  10. I've seem some crazy ricochets in my time, you never know how wood fibres, a knot etc is going to be affected by a pellets energy. I have an angled slate slab that will bounce any pellets downwards into a collecting area, all set in wood.
  11. I love mine. Would prefer a synthetic but may just stain the wood to make it darker. It's great on the bunnies and very light to carry with you on a long walk. I stuck a slightly stretchy sling on mine and bulked up the bottom of the mag tube with tape so that I can clip on a lamp.
  12. Hi Brian. I attempted to send you a message but you can't receive any more. Might be mailbox full. If you message me with an email addy I can send details.
