  14. Hi all, my apologies as i'm sure this has been raised numerous times. I used to hold a FAC but when they decided that pistols were the work of the devil and must be destroyed back in 96 I stupidly told them to stuff my cert. I have held a shotgun cert for over 35 years (I shoot competition clay's every weekend) and am now looking to get back into firearms to control rats and rabbits, I only own 3.5 acres but I am surrounded by farmland, the nearest main road is over a mile away and I am conscious of where my shots will need to be placed with regards to backstops. I am considering applying for an FAC air rifle along with a semi-auto .22lr through which I will probably shoot subs through a mod, does anyone see any issues with this? I would love some advice on ammo to hold/buy and also if you think I should be applying for any other calibres, I have access to a friends land (10 acres with a great valley running at the bottom) I am in Staffordshire.. Thanks for any pointers or advice, cheers all, Gra.

  21. Just been out and picked up my latest acquisition. A brand new .22lr bolt action to replace my previous Smith & Wesson semi-auto. As much as I enjoyed the M&P15-22 it was primarily a fun gun, a gallery rifle. But as much as I'd like to say it was a 'do it all' gun, there was no getting away from the fact that it wasn't really suited to rabbit boshing. Looked scary to passers by, tough to make 100% safe yet useable, flexing fore-end when working off a bipod... It ticked a few boxes but missed the mark in other ways. So I decided to part company with it and go for a rabbit-boshing bolt-action that I could still use on a 25mtr range and have fun with. Enter the CZ455... Kennym on here is one of my best mates and his love of CZ's has obviously had some effect. I have to admit that it seemed very accurate and for the money it was my first choice. I got a great deal on a brand new .22lr CZ455 with a 16" barrel in a thumbhole laminate stock. Exactly what I'd been looking for and did the deal as quickly as possible before I spent the cash on something trivial like bills or food or something. Got myself a decent bipod, moderator and some more ammo to play with for a good deal less than the Smith sold for. Happy days. Got home, mounted the Vortex 4-12x44 straight on there and it's ready for a run out. Looking forward to zeroing the gun and clearing some floppy eared fluffy targets asap. Initial thoughts, bolt is a little stiff and a bit 'agricultural' but I understand a polish up will help with that. Kennym has done his already so I know that's on the agenda. Also, trigger is a bit stiff, I'll try adjusting it but I think a 'YoDave!' or Rimfire Magic spring kit will find it's way onto my shopping list. Stock seems a little short BUT (and it's a pretty big but) I bought the gun with a view to swapping the stock for a Boyds Provarmint. I have one of those already fitted to my Howa 1500 and love it. Order placed today. So... the thumbhole stock will be up for sale in a few days hopefully. Enough chat, pics are always what you guys want to see... Will update after some shooting and modification no doubt. I'm an eternal tinkerer.
  22. Hi everyone I have 500 rounds of Blazer which I bought not realising this is High-Velocity stuff and my club doesnt allow it. I'll flog it for £25 which obviously works out extremely cheap. IDEALLY THOUGH... I would like to swap for 500 rounds of anything Subsonic/Normal Velocity (Somewhere around 1085 fps) Let me know guys. Cheers
  23. Rat problem at my dads farm! We have alot of rats really annoying my dad as they are ruining all the barley and meal for the cows & sheep. So we really want rid of them. My dad is really not a fan of poison as he says you don't know where the rats carry it and he doesn't like it with the dogs around. Also similar with traps as the rats are HUGE so takes really big steel bear claw type traps to get them which would probably kill the dog if he was to walk over it! so he doesn't use it anymore. We have got a few with the Jack Russell and sticks Yes sticks (Yard Brush Shafts to be exact). It is now rare to have a big lot of them on the floor as they are aware of the jack Russell now. So they are on grain bags, Work benches, Shelves, Ledges on walls, Joists and steels on the roof etc. (we have two entry's to the worst shed of rats and above two doors there are large ledges for storing ropes & caned stuff etc which is crawling with them. The jack Russell is not the best dog in the world for catching them but honestly has the best nose you ever seen and can pick up cent and locate exact position of a rat in any shed in 20 seconds. If you then poke that with a stick one will run out and run across steels and down wood etc to escape point. They move too fast for the air rifle and shotgun would likely blow the shed up! So i am wondering if i could use these! Birdshot 22lr load. I have used these before on a rat down a steel pipe and i blocked the other side and then shot down it at about 5 yards and i thought it would turn it to soup but it was un-noticeable that it was shot! So i am wondering what this would do to tin roof or if you shot at one scaling a rope along the wall would some pickles from the shot come back at you or would it be dangerous. I think there are 100+ pickles in each 22 bullet so they are smaller than grains of sand so damage may be un-noticeable? All advice is appreciated! Thanks in Advance!
  24. I hav a 240 acre permission which is best accessed at dusk or early morning. Lots of foxes, birds, rabbits, best suited to air or shotgun in a hide. I will let you attend my permission when you like, if I can get a spot on your permission to allow me to shoot closer to the middle of the day on my .22lr which I am awaiting my FAC for (I already have shotgun cert). We both hold on to our permissions ourselves, but we each let the other have access to them as well as well as the normal introductions to the land owner if applicable to you, to help with getting the land approved for rimfire etc. I am based in the west midlands.
  25. Hi All I've just had my FAC granted, just waiting for the paperwork to arrive now. I'm after a rabbit basher so if anyone has a nice short barrelled screwcut 22 I'd be very interested. cheers :-)
