  1. Jackie and Richard Clarke have just installed a new pay and play range at Six Mile Bottom Shoot. I have been up to see it for work, it's in some woods and they have put a whole lot of effort and thought into it. Hard standing for the car park, get a card and shoot as much or as little as you like. They have launched a priority club for first chance bookings, email Jackie on the email below if you want to grab one of the last places. "It's a bit windy up here" I said to a colleague. "That'll be why they put the windfarm here then" was the crushing reply! But it made the clays more fun. I've got a couple of slots left at a preview event we are holding for women shooters on Friday 2nd. From Six Mile Bottom Facebook: Pay & Play at Six Mile Bottom Shoot New Sporting Layout of 10 different stands in rural surroundings Stands suitable for all levels of skill from beginners to experts (and all in between!) Fibre Wads Only Launching Saturday 3rd April Groups of 2 to 6 people (following current Covid-19 rules) 34p per clay – pay after shoot (card or cash) Refreshments available to purchase on site Toilets on site Pre-booked timeslots every 45mins available for Saturday 3rd April from 9am Wednesday 7th April from 9am Thursday 8th April from 2.30pm £10 per person deposit Email jackie@sixmilebottomshoot.co.uk for enquiries or book your slot
  2. Just a quick post to say I had a great time at Mill Farm Hankham East Sussex nr Eastbourne this morning. It was the second time I have shot there everyone is very friendly, good layout - 50 and 70 layout skeet and something else that was far too advanced for me but looked a lot of fun. Thoroughly would recommend this ground. Joe
  3. Hi all, I rather fancy treating myself to a pair of Pilla shooting glasses but I don't know of anywhere near me (North Staffordshire) that is a stockist. All the lads I know that shoot use either Oakley or ebay glasses and after looking on the Pilla website I thought I come to the best place for information. Thanks in Advance.
  4. Hi All, I have just started shooting and after having several lessons and being taken along to a few shoots it looks like I have well and truly been bitten by the shooting bug! As such I am looking for a regular club where I can practise and am seriously considering E.J.Churchill as it is about 40 mins away from me and from what I can see on their website it is open all week. It is quite expensive at £50 for a 100 bird shoot, however all of the other grounds I have looked at shoot on a Sunday morning which is the only time I can't do! Also, I will be looking at shooting a bit of Skeet as well as sporting and this is only £8 for a round. Could I please ask people on here for some other recommendations near me (Bracknell, Berkshire) and also if there are any members or regular attendees at E.J.Churchill, their opinions on the ground, facilities and general feel of the place. Many thanks in advance! Ben.

  6. I've added this event to the PW calendar but thought I'd put it here as well so a few more people have sight of it. There are events being held all over the country for National Ladies Shooting Day but I shall be at Eriswell Lodge (formerly Lakenheath Shooting Ground). This is a great event for ladies to try shooting, very friendly, light guns, nice company, especially good value. And if any lady shoots already they are welcome to come and see if they can beat my 29/30 record :-) There will also be cake of course. Join us at the newly refurbished Eriswell Lodge (formerly Lakenheath Shooting Ground) on the first ever National Ladies Shooting Day. This event is just £35pp and includes 30 cartridges and clays, top tuition, ear and eye protection and a goody bag, all in celebration of ladies who shoot or who want to try shooting. Book at http://shotgunandchelseabunclub.co.uk/events/eriswell-lodge-shooting-ground/.
  7. Had an excellent day today on the clays near my families home in Cumbria. The place is called greenquarries and as the name suggests is essentially farmers land with an old quarry on it. The ground is very varied with some excellent traps. I couldn't recommend it enough. The place is run by Peter Hetherington (A CPSA coach) and his family. I went with my girlfriend and she thoroughly enjoyed it too. Admittedly I was shockingly bad at the bolting rabbit trap... For any of you ladies out there that enjoy cakes as much as shooting the ground also hosts a number of Chelsea Bun and Shotgun Club events.

  10. It took a while but Atkin Grant & Lang today confirmed for absolutely sure that the side by side championship will be on 12th September. They told me the date a couple of weeks ago, but now they have the details on their website so they must really mean it. I've been polishing my Baikal in preparation. Anyone else going? http://www.agl-uk.com/events/british-side-by-side-championship#.U77IHfldUwM

On occasion we also set up a compak in place of sporting if we fancy something different. As a members club you are welcome to come along for 3 visits as a 'guest' but ideally we are looking for members who can help with club activities and such. If you are interested please get in touch for more information at mileoakclayclub@gmail.com or call Jon on 07779 801771 Seee you soon Jon Secretary Treasurer Mile Oak Clay Club
  14. Are you a weekend shot, or do you like to try and get out in the weekdays or evenings? We used to enjoy going up Lakenheath on a Wednesday night for floodlit skeet during the winter (before the fire) and like to shoot Summer evenings when we get the chance too. Sunny warm evenings, light evenings, perfect! .... Assuming that Summer ever comes back!

  17. Hi. Wondering if you can help me out. I have just moved to the High Wycombe area and was looking for some advice on shooting grounds. At this stage I am still practicing, so want somewhere I can turn up and do just that. I have driven to Bisley a couple of times, but its too far and to be honest out of my price range. The local place is EJ Churchill and that is most definitely way north of my budget! Can anyone out there recommend somewhere friendly that someone in dire need of some practice can go to? Thanks

We have skeet and varied sporting layouts (30-50 birds) and periodically run compact and other types of layout depending on what members want. We do have guest shooting if you would like to come along and see for yourself before joining please do but please contact us first in order to manage numbers. Please PM me for more info
  20. Hi Everyone, I have been remiss in not introducing myself to this helpful and friendly forum. I have been on for a few weeks and already you have been a great help. My wife (Victoria) and I (Dave) are new to clay shooting, we were lucky enough to receive our SGCs in near record times compared to some of the posts I have ready, start to finish it only took 5 weeks. we are now the proud owners of a pair new Browning B725s; mine is a 12g 30" Sporter and Victoria's is a 12g 28" Hunter, hers also has a Danuser recoil system added. Any way we are really keen and trying to shoot as much as possible. we started with a couple of Have A Go sessions at College Farm with Kevin Gray and must say we came away hooked! since then we have had lessons at Honesberie Shooting School, Oxford Gun Company, Doveridge and College Farm. We are still very much beginners but up for trying most targets and locations. We are just starting to try some of our local area Sunday Shoots. we are going to do the bulk of our formal training between Oxford Gun Company and College Farm but expect to frequent as many local shoots as time (and funds) allow. These are definitely going to include: Hornet, Crazy Bear, Valley View, Prestwood (Flackwell Heath & Aylesbury), Stag & Hounds to mention only a few. We have also had guidance and help from numerous other shooters that we have bumped into as we have gone around. On the whole we have found the sport, which is new to us, very friendly and have been amazed just how helpful people have been. Dave
