Please help was shooting today and the grub screw at the back of the trigger guard has come out, it is still in the gun but i am guessing it has to be screwed back in internally as i can't get it out. Is this a job i can do or has it got to go to a gunsmiths. I do not know as this is my first shotgun.

  7. Hi all, I am looking to update my hide kit and was thinking of purchasing the A1 Decoy Pro Hide Kit (http://www.a1decoy.co.uk/pro-hide-kit-1301-p.asp). I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this kit or if there is another suggested option? Looking for poles & nets etc., therefore, kit seems best approach. All looks good on paper (price, contents of the kit) but would be great to get some of your learned thoughts! Many thanks, Tournage
  8. Hi all, As a quick note of introduction - I've been shooting (mainly .22 rim fire, .223 and 12 bore shotguns) in North Yorkshire for the last few years, and have recently relocated can to Maidenhead, Berkshire. I've also bought a BSA R10 mk 2 air rifle and am looking for a permission to go shooting. I enjoy shooting pigeons, crows, squirrels and rabbits etc, and would love to get a fox! My postcode is SL6 9LR and I'm happy anywhere with in an hours drive. I'm a responsible chap and a BASC member - so am fully insured. I can be free all day most weekends and occasionly on a week day. Would be very great full to anyone who can help me out... Thanks, Craig.

  11. When you get big bags of pigeons what do you do with them?
  12. Hi my name is Matt I am new to shooting, I have had my licence for about six months now. I have managed to get myself two pieces of land to shoot on. I have a few questions I would like answering, I have tryed searching the Internet but the adviceis either contradicting from one person to another or nonexistent. My first question is what kind of land should i be shooting on? And what can I expect to find in the Midlands? (The first pieces of land I have is two fields which I think the farmer is growing corn. The crop is about 4 inch high. The second is some feilds surrounding a farm which I think the farmer is also growing crops but also has cattle so there is some grass and recently one of his feilds he scraped one of his feild with these chains I did see pigeons there.) Should I be using callers? Flight lines I no what they are but what do they look like? Should I expect one pigeon every minute or five an hour or coming flying in groups. I find researching this one particularly hard to research everybody seems just to explain what they mean to the pigeons and how they use them. Where can I find roosts? Is it in big woods, small woods, small groups of tree's, can I expect 10s or just a couple of pigeons? Should I buy flappers and other equipment? I have a hide net and 12 FUD decoys so far was also thinking of buying some crows as well to add a bit of variety to my pattern as I see this as I first get to the feilds. Also I would like to ask if there is any experienced shoots who would like some help out in the field in exchange for some advice, not only on where to find them but how to shoot them its just not the same as clays. Thanks to everyone who reads this or replies. I know I have woffled on abit. Matt

  14. Available to shoot Tue, Sat, Sun every week in the Rotherham area (willing to shoot in Sheffield, Barnsley, and Doncaster if it isn't ridiculously far) I'm an avid clay shooter but I'm new to pigeon shooting, though I'm aware of the basics. I would very much appreciate some land to shoot on. I will keep gates closed, mess picked up etc. I'm also a full member of BASC.

  19. Hi all, Went shooting last weekend decoying over oilseed rape. However only left with 5 birds. There just weren’t any in the sky overhead. Any reason for this? It was about 6 degrees and clear sky with sun shining, light breeze. Is it the time of year? Am I better off shooting over the grass field behind the two rapeseed fields? I was shooting the traditional horseshoe pattern. Thanks for any advice/tips
  20. We took Logan out to one of our permissions today to see how he would get on. OH took his gun and I left mine behind to concentrate on Logan. We had a mooch round the fields, but nothing was showing so went up to the woods. Logan was tracking a scent within minutes of us getting into the woods and next minute a pheasant flew across us. Sadly OH missed it, so we carried on. Logan was doing a great job looking round all the woods circling us and pointing at the odd rabbit hole, but nothing was showing. It was interesting seeing the much gentler style of setting up that a Setter does compared to the much more manic work of Leo the Springer. Eventually we went across the fields and OH spotted some pigeons and downed one. Unfortunatley it landed on the ice on one of the ponds, so we didn't send Logan to fetch it. OH managed to retrieve it with a branch and then let Logan fetch it for me which he did enthusiasticly. I dropped it in the grass a couple of times on the walk back and Logan went tearing back to find and fetch it for me each time. Very pleased with how he is progressing so far.
  21. Hi all I know this is not the best way of gaining permission but I thought it would be worth a try. I am look to get permission to shoot in surrey. I have been helping a pal out for the past 2 years on 2 farms in Kent where he has his permission. Due to family ties (2 young children and a 9 month baby) I am looking to get my own area nearer to home. In Kent we were mainly helping with the pigeons and lamping the rabbits (now and again). I would be looking to do the same locally as I have all the equipment for both and a truck. I have my shotgun licence and BASC insurance (full licence). I also have a good understanding on how to look after the owners land. If anyone can help, advise or point me in the right direction, please feel free to reply. Thanks in advance and I look forward to any responses. Sam

  23. Caveat: new to pigeon shooting so please bear in mind - no advice will be too basic My permission is a smallish cattle farm with some woods and mainly pasture. I have identified a flightline across the fields and set a hide and decoys as per the general advice (pattern, wind direction etc) but nothing. I assume that this is because of two possible reasons: 1) They would not generally feed on these fields so it would be unnatural for them to come down irrespective of the decoys. I have read that some people have had some success decoying on pasture......?? 2) The flightline seems to run from their roosting location, a small wood, out and in, so am wondering if the hide / kill zone is too near their roost?? When I walk through the fields along the hedgerows I always put up a fair few pigeons flying away and fast - have had a few shots coming up through them and firing as i go through the target as I would with a clay going away from me, but no luck - any tips on lead, swing, aim point etc?? There are of course a good amount of pigeons flying the flightline, but I am not Mr Digweed! The maize field has been cut last week so will try and get over tmrw and see how that develops, but siting the hide will be challenging as the maize field is bordered by a road one side and a golf course on the other. This is the only permission I have at the moment and although lucky to have any, I want to exploit it the best I can - any and all advice would be welcome.
  24. Hi! I just joined not too long ago and the most important reason is because a bird fell in a bucket in the garden. I am trying to save it from death and thought this was the best place to be. It's currently night time, 9:30pm to be specific and the only thing I could think of is to put my jumper next to it with it slightly over it so no animals will smell it (which I have a feeling that it would be dead by morning). Unfortunately I'm not allowed to bring it in doors and i do not have a garage. It would be nice to learn a bit about them while I am here and hopefully I will get good tips! ciao for now.
  25. Well ive decided i want to try eat woodpigeon, ive heard ferral pigeons not safe to eat, or is this mallarchy lol !? new to all of this, So two main questions for all at PW. 1. does anyone have a picture with a pea shape dot on where best to shoot to get a clean kill with them, 2. Where do pigeons cultivate haha - like rat's - rubbish, rabbits - fields, Magpies - Scavangers, Crows same?, Pigeons... well accept for the ones trying to nick my chips out side the chipy on the high street i wouldnt know where to look for them, especially around milton keynes, again accept maybe underpasses but it being illegal and extremely risky near cars and just dam well stupid im kind of stumped for words i wouldnt have the first clue where to find them, or where they could be causing a problem for me to go deal with them collect and do my first pigeon slow cook! Regards, Matt !!
