  1. Well after seeing so many people on here decoying and getting good numbers of pigeons and crows I decided it was time to have a go at it myself. So whilst at the CLA Game fair I treated myself to 24 flocked pigeons 2 floaters and 6 crow decoys which had been sat in their bag for a couple of weeks till now. So time off came and these little beauties came out..... So Day 1 I trundled down to my permission and spoke to the farmer to find out where he has been having the most trouble with crows and he pointed me in the right direction. So set up by 1030 with my pigeons 30 yards to the front and slightly to the right in what look like a 6 and then the crows slightly to the left again in the shape of a 6. With the wind going straight over my head towards the decoys. Thought it was going to take forever for birds to come in but I hadn't even got comfy behind my cam net when the first pigeon came in. They just kept on coming the crows came in in massive numbers I couldn't reload fast enough as I am only using an old non ejector 12g. But got 11 crows and 6 pigeons Day 2 Set up for 0930 on a different field taking a friend with me this time as he had never done any decoying either and wanted to witness what I was ranting on about the night before. Unfortunately there wasn't much wind yesterday so wasn't really sure how to set up my decoys anyway I set up and put the hide under some trees and had the dog bed today to sit on. But again 5 minutes in and we already had 5 in the bag. I kept putting the shot birds out making my crow flock up to about 15 before I stopped putting them out and just started piling them up. Unfortunately I got a call which meant we had to pack up and go home early. We still got 22 crows and 11 pigeons
  2. Hi done this last year took some people from Pw Got about 60 acres of rape stubble it got drop to day . Brids dropping behind the Claas. This is for Saturday from 8am to about 5pm. Will be more days out as more fields get cut.
  3. well after buying a new mamba scope the other week I thought it was time I got it onto my .22rf so I went out yesterday and zeroed it in..just after I had set it up it started to rain so I got in the hedges under a big tree to keep dry...that's when a pigeon landed 35yrds away on the muck heap (and that was the mambas account opened) this was closely followed by a half grown rabbit that came out the hedges about 40yrds away (fox bait)...I left the rabbit where it dropped as I could hear magpies somewhere behind me and I was hoping one of them would spot it and not be able to resist a pair of eyes to peck out.....but after 40 minutes nothing was happening and I was just about to call it a day when a magpie glided straight passed the front of the hedge I was in..it hopped around the rabbit a bit having a good look round for any movement then had a peck at the rabbit and another look round..but by this time I had got the mambas german sniper dot reticle on him and just as he had another peck at the rabbit the 40grain Winchester super X switched him off instantly...so not a bad start for the new scope....cheers
  4. Not sure what forum to post this in so thought here would do for now. I uses glasses for clays but not for field shooting which is daft really. Anyway, If anybody wants quality but affordable eye protection you could do a lot worse than these: http://www.revisionmilitary.com/product/sawfly/ The 'Revision Sawfly Ballistic Glasses' are now appearing on evilBay as unused surplus for about £25, I think they retail new at £65. 3 different lenses clear, yellow and dark and very very tough hitting all the required safety standards. They have been instrumental in reducing blast injuries leading to sight loss in Afghanistan and are issued to all UK, Danish and most US troops. The manufacturers reckon they'll defeat a shotgun blast at 5m! See you tube for the test. I hope I'm not breaching a PW selling policy but just thought some of you PW fellas might appreciate knowing about this product. Due to redundancies I suspect that a fair few sets will be appearing on popular auction sites in the near future.
  5. First of all, Hello everyone, I think finding this forum is going to be a great addition to my shooting. Im Alex, 25 in Birmingham. Been shooting for a few years, due to recent move to built up area (away from parents) am now struggling to find land to be able to shoot on. If anyone has any land available, i would be most appreciative if they could make contact. I will happily shoot any pests anyone does not want to persue in exchange for shooting permission. Pick of the bag always offered to land owner, shoots left as i found them, clean, tidy, no mess, and all wildlife respected. I have 2 friends who are also in the same position if an extra hand is needed, or if permission can be given to all 3 of us. We are not loonatics crazy or irresponsible If anybody feels they are able to help me/us. I/We would be very appreciative Many Thanks Guys, Happy to be part of the forum!
  6. Hello, We have some opportunities for full and half Gun membership of our friendly game shoot in North Wales (about 15 minutes from Chester) . It is a stand and beat shoot, shooting on 8 Saturdays throughout the season with several pheasant drives on each shoot day. Ducks are driven over standing Guns and there are also woodcock on the shoot. Vermin is controlled through the year with good pigeon/crow shooting over crops, and rabbit shooting in the Summer months. The farms are pasture with some arable crops, plenty of hedgerows and several well placed woodlands. We also grow a cover crop and have two duck ponds. The land lies across 2 small valleys so the drives provide some challenging birds. We have two release pens and rear a few hundred pheasants and some ducks each year. There are voluntary work parties in the summer, a summer fun clay shoot and social, and an informal shoot dinner in January. We aim to have enjoyable shoot days with memorable birds, rather than just “how many are in the bag?”. Saying that, we do aim for and regularly get, bags of 30+ and make sure that every Gun has fair and equal opportunities to shoot. The shoot has improved and grown each year, and we are expecting this year to be even better again. The bag is shared at the end of the shoot day and everyone gets at least a brace to take home if they so wish. We have syndicate rules to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment of shoot days. Guns with dogs are preferred, but not essential as we also have some regular volunteer beaters. If you are interested please pm me and we can arrange to chat on the ‘phone and meet for a walk around the shoot before membership is offered/taken. Some PW guys are already members and I am sure that they will give you their views! Full Guns £780 8 days (plus 1st February rough shoot) Summer vermin shooting. ½ Guns £440 4 days (plus 1st February rough shoot) Summer vermin shooting. There is also a one-off Joining fee of £30 Opportunities are limited, so send me a pm as soon as you can if you are interested.. Spitzer
  7. Have a bit of a resto project on and i am going to need some turn screws however looking at the prices, for what is a glorified screwdriver i am wondering if anyone already has some/ or a set ( or knows where to get them cheap? ). So if you have some turnscrews read on. If you want to sell them let me know your price and ill see what i can do. Alternatively If you don't want to sell them, i could hire them for a week or two in exchange for money or a crate of your favorite beverage, i may even be able to arrange a day of rabbit or pigeon shooting but that very much depends on the landowner. Just seems silly to pay so much money for something that has such a specific use. So if you have some sat in a drawer, let me know!

  12. Hi I am in the middle of getting all the paper work together for applying for my FAC and have a couple of question I'm hoping someone could help me with: The use of the rifles I am applying for is general pest control rabbits and foxes I am applying for a .17 HMR and a .22 LR, are these 2 guns sufficient or is it worth applying for a bigger rifle also like a .22 250, .220 swift or .223? And what amount of ammo should I apply for each calibre? Do I have to state expanding ammo or because its vermin control is that standard? Do I write moderators in a separate box on the forms to apply for them as well? I have also applied for a FAC 12g as well, is this easily granted or not worth the hassle. Any help appreciated and I am also based in Cardiff whiling to travel if anyone would like or needs a buddy when out shooting as I would like to gain more experience. Thanks
  13. We went to our local gun clubs open day on sunday. We got to fire many things! Enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xM_yZ2IE1yA
  14. Hello everyone, Just a quick thought which i wondered if anyone agreed. I am 23 and have been shooting since the age of 12, when my dad gave to me my first spring loaded air rifle to shoot rats with on some old farm land while he fired his FAC rifles. Since then I have had lots of rifles sub12ft/ and FAC and shot countless small game and can quite easily hit a rabbit over the 100yd mark but because of my age i have had trouble getting on to farm land. Up until last week I had land/permission to shoot on which got sold, so now I have to look around to find somewhere new to shoot. However because of my age i am instantly dismissed as inexperienced and looked upon as if i have no idea as what i am doing even though i am a stickler for safety and fully insured with BASC and have over 11 years of experience. How do we except the sport of shooting to expand and carry on if young shots are frowned upon and are rarely taken under someone's wing for guidance and experience. i completely understand that there are many young shots who wouldn't even hesitate at taking a shot at a rabbit with a main road as the back drop but to be put in this stereotype is so frustrating and is fast becoming a pet hate of mine so just wondered if anyone out there felt the same way or has had similar problems. Many thanks to any replies, Nick
  15. Hi everyone I am a new member to PW, I have run into a spot of bother I have been shooting on farm land for years with permission however its been sold and now I have nowhere to shoot I have sub 12lbft air rifles and fac rimfire and insured with BASC however I have got nowhere to go now so if anyone has any pest problems regarding rabbits in the Essex area or as close as I would love to meet new people and lands also developed a taste for the fluffy b-u-g-g-e-r-s many thanks for any replies Nick.

  18. Well went out with 2 of my mates for a stalk on the roe as I'm training my pup on blood trailing, we sat for 30 minutes and a cock pheasant was going mad in the woods then 5 minutes later a fox came out and ran across to the next field I could not see it so I stalked across and i came across it again. The fox was rolling about and then just lay there so I put a 130grn straight into it!! Shame we didn't see a deer but a fox is all ways a bouns!!???
  19. Hi, I'm just trying to get back into decoying and wondering what cartridges to use. I know cartridges aren't cheap but I would like to buy some which are good enough to kill pigeons and rooks for decent price. Also any advice on different shot and load size welcomed. I am also searching for permissions to do such decoying in the South Wales area any help with this would be great thanks.

  25. Hello, Was wondering if anyone around the area would be happy to take me out and allow me to tag along. Im not worried about being the one to pull the trigger, just was hoping to find a good reason to get out. I have done a fair variety of shooting in the past so am more than happy to hold a lamp/drive the landy. Once I have settled into my new home I will be looking for some new permissions so would be more than happy to share when I get some. Hopefully hear from someone soon Cheers Tom
