  1. First flight of the season. The dog worked brilliantly, my shooting was rusty at best. Did get a left and right (with one barrel?) though, despite the camera only catching one retrieve. The camera was away when the geese came over. Although warm, it was just nice to be on the marsh, listening to the birds, watching the tide race in, and seeing a flight of ducks. A bird in the bag is a bonus.
  2. Hi All, I am after some second hand Teal, Wigeon or Mallard FUD decoys. Some sold on ebay for £5-£7 for six decoys plus postage recently. If anyone has any that are in fair to good condition and wants to sell for a sensible price plus postage then please PM Me with a picture if possible. Thanks

    Acle geese

Good evening , a very keen wildfowlers and recently been struggling hitting the geese. Had overwhelming shooting with the mallard, the Great Yarmouth marshes have been excellent both on early morning decoying the dykes and evening flight paths. Just one problem, the pinkfoot? Seen plenty close to the moon but just nothing even near or close to the marshes I've been trying. I'm one for trying all types of marsh at different times of the flight and I seem to be struggling to find the right place at the right time. The south west wind seem to be a start. Seen large numbers but they all just seem to be on route to new feeding grounds. Anyone has any tips or local knowledge which could offer would be appreciated I'd love one for the family Xmas dinner plate Marshboy beccles
  4. Just a bit of a rant really, Sir Peter Scott was a keen fowler and learned a huge amount of nature out with his gun, yet his Wikipedia entry doesn't mention shooting once, it's ridiculous... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Scott Somehow 'conservationists' imagine that being a fowler and a conservationist are mutually exclusive, which of course couldn't be further from the truth.
  5. Hi I have for sale a patternmaster code black duck choke tube. It's a Benelli/beretta mobile choke tube. Totally unused brand new in packet, please Pm £60
  6. So this year i plan on visiting some new places to fowl. My dilemma is that to get to these areas i would have to carry my gear in plain sight of the public for a short while.. I dropped the camo for drap colours but still worry about walking with my gunslip on show. Seen some guys break their gun and stick it in a rucksack, which would be a grand solution. Would a surplus bergen take a broken gun with 28" barrel? What does everyone else do? Cheers
  7. Hi guys, I am looking to join a wildfowling club either before the season starts or sometime next year. Now, I clay shoot, but unfortunately I have never had any experience on live game other than popping bunnies with an air rifle. So, I went to Highclere fair on Monday, and two of the local clubs to me tried to persuade me to join their club. Being fronted with this new found information has enthused to start looking for a suitable club, but i need a little advice on the gear needed. So, I have (I am kind of a shamed to say) a Revo Premium Game O/U 12g 3" chamber, I think steel proofed and i am thinking of getting a new gun! What gun is the best for Wildfowling? O/U, S/S or Semi Auto? And, do I go for a synthetic stock or risk it with a usual walnut stock? Also, best cartridges for a starter for Geese, ducks, and hopefully if I get some contacts pigeons? Good waders/warm weather gear? Also, not trying to make a fight, which is the better club? Langstone and District or Chichester? Thank you, Verminator343
  8. After cleaning up the gun from the last shoot of the season, I thought I would give it a paint. For no reason other than I fancied doing it. Most of my shooting is done in reeds / marsh but also some summer stubble.
  9. A good wildfowling friend of mine has just been left a few pounds by some distant aunt (lucky b******), he is thinking of buying a hoseboat which is currently moored in rochester kent, it is in a bit of a state but he wants to fix it up, he is a very good wildlife photographer, and wants to take it to norfolk on the wash, some body has told him that he can moor it any where he likes below the mean high water mark however this does not sound right to me, i do not wish to see this chap lose out, does anyone know anything about this? i think this is one for you fenland boys as i understand this is more of an east anglian way of life, advice please?
  10. Does anybody have a contact at Chichester Wildowlers please? I have tried to get in contact via the website links, but no luck Thanks
  11. Hey Bought a Pattern Master Code Black Goose choke in invector plus for my Browning Maxus. a bit worried that it is not sitting entirely flush with the muzzle. Does anyone use this combo? and is it just the way the chokes designed? it just looks a bit odd. The Maxus came with factory invector plus chokes, and the patternmaster choke i bought was winchester/browning invector plus. Checked on the official website which says i got the correct choke, but just wondering as i heard they had a product recall on badly fitting Benneli chokes a while back. Cheers
  12. Had a nice start to the fowling season with a brace of Canada's and 2 cracking lo g water retrievs from Holly. Very proud of her
  13. Hello all! Newbie from perthshire seeking advice. So i tried a few inland geese flights last year and loved it, would like to start wildfowling but don't know how to go about it. I had a look at the BASC permit schemes and tried to get in contact with ESAWC, but heard nothing back yet. From a pest control background with the odd driven pheasant & decoying. Got some gear, a Maxus and BASC insurance but no clue what to do next! Any advice would be appreciated.
  14. 1x Eley 4 bore/gauge BB load 4" RTO £15 but open to offers. All offers and questions by PM please.
  15. Hello all. As I'm sure you are well aware, the wildfowling season is fast approaching. This is particularly exciting for my stepdad and myself as we have managed to secure some wildfowling rights for the very first time. Also fast approaching is my stepdad's birthday, so it would seem the obvious move would be to buy a suitable jacket for the usually difficult man in question. The problem, however, is that I am completely unfamiliar with the most effective waterproofing and camouflage solutions that are on offer nowadays (my shooting is currently limited to clays and game). If it helps at all, he's of average height (around 5'9") and average weight. We live and have rights to shoot in Cumbria so excellent waterproofing is absolutely essential. It will likely be a joint gift from myself and the mother so money isn't too much of a worry. Any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance, Kieran.
  16. Hi All Langstone and District Wildfowlers And Conservation Association (LADWACA) has filled most of its places for the forthcoming 2014 season, but has a handful of spaces remaining. Although primarily a wildfowling club they also have rough/woodland shooting, offering snipe & pheasant (during the season), pigeon, crow, squirrel etc all year. (Some excellent roost shooting can be had during the early months of the year too ). You can get more information about the club from the link below (which is the ladwaca website www.ladwaca.com). Langstone Wildfowlers If you have no access to any shooting, joining a club will introduce you to, and put you in the company of people who do. You don't need to live in Hampshire to join the club or get on the waiting list, we have members from London, Guildford and surrounding areas who go wildfowling or use the woodland areas we have for shooting. If you are already a member of a club or have existing shooting and are looking to expand your shooting then this could also be for you. If you require any more info on joining then please PM me or reply to this thread. (or you can use the contact form on the website if you like!) All the best Regards Steve www.ladwaca.com

  19. Beretta "Xtreme Ducker" 2 in 1 Gore-tex Jacket (with thermal inner jacket) and Gore-tex padded Bib and Brace trousers. Not available to buy in the UK as far as I know. The bib and brace have never been worn, the jacket has had minimal use and is in perfect condition. 20. Good afternoon all, I'm looking to join a Wildfowling club in or near Ipswich, Suffolk. The two I have come up with are the North Suffolk Wildfowlers and Colchester Wildfowlers. As I have said in my welcome post a few days ago I haven't been shooting that long (about 8 or 9 months) and what I'm looking for is a club that will be welcoming to a new shooter who may not know all of the ins and outs of Wildfowling. I have had a brief email chat with the NSW but nothing was really mentioned to the helping of a new shooter. (well that's how I read it). So I'm posting on here to hopefully find and talk to some members of each of the clubs so I can see which would be best for me i.e. travel, cost, Friendly members etc.. Many thanks Yogi

  22. Evening all, Having just put my pump action in the bath after an evening flight, I got to wondering what others are using on the shore? I struggle to shoot well with the pump. Mainly due to being a bad shot more than anything. I have also noticed its propensity to rust, even with a thin coat of mud enough to leave small stains. This is rather disappointing considering it is a supernova and meant to be tough. I was thinking about getting a cheap over under for the job. Your views would be welcome. Cheers Johnny
  23. Dear All, I am a newcomer to wildfowling, this being my first season with SLWC. I have had a few morning and evening flights of varying success on Frampton Marsh. A few weekends ago I ventured out mid-afternoon on a falling tide to have an explore and get settled in for an evening flight. I was pleasantly surprised to find birds moving for most of the afternoon, all be it many out of range. I got settled in relatively near the front, in a gutter next to a large creek. Many birds flew over as the afternoon progressed to evening. I took one or two that were passing to my right, over the marsh, as I lack a dog and didn’t want to drop birds in the creek bottom. Many packs of widgeon paid a visit and I was pleased with my efforts. On the walk back I put up a number of teal and widgeon from splashes about the marsh. This weekend just gone tried to replicate the same, but thought I may float a few decoys on the splashes. First thing I noted was that there were much fewer widgeon and teal in the RSPB reserve. Second thing I noted was that many of the knee deep areas of water were now muddy puddles. Undeterred I found a 10in deep splash near the large creek I was camped in before. I floated my decoys and set to waiting and watching. I noticed very few brents about, the ones I could see seemed to be further along on Kirton. As the day progressed a pair of mallard, very high, came from the estuary and headed inland. I could see a mass of (I assume) widgeon out over the estuary (or beyond) and excitedly waited for them to pay me a visit. However when they did decide to make a move, they seemed to disappear from view in any direction but mine. Last visit, streams of birds came out of the reserve and down the creeks, but this did not seem to happen either. Three pintail did buzz straight past me, feet off the ground, but these were the only shootable birds all evening. Essentially the flight failed to appear. The wind was a steady 10-15mph south easterly. High tide was at 7:30pm ish. Conditions were rain to begin, but clearing to high whispy cloud. Do I put my lack of success down to the following: The vagaries of wildfowling? Being a complete all the gear, no idea ******? Should I have tried one of the other marshes like Butterwick or Wrangle given the wind? (I have not been to any other marsh than Frampton as I am a little girl and scared of Kirton.) I was in the wrong place and should have been back in the gutter from the previous trip? I suspect it is all of the above. Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m not asking for co-ordinates to your favourite secret spot, but a general pointer of where I should be when which wind is blowing would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  24. Dear fellow 'Fowlers, It looks like my photo of a mixed bag of duck might have made the Browning competition shortlist... any support you have a moment to show would be appreciated. 25. Hi All Just wanted to let you know that there are some great articles that had been written and published over the years by members of LADWACA. They've been scanned in and made available on the clubs website. They are all available to view or download from the following link : LADWACA Library More will be being added shortly plus some pictures of the completed gun punt restoration. Id recommend having a look if you are interested, there are some great articles that make a very good read (some also date back to the 1980's!) Cheers Steve
