  1. Saturday 09th June turned out to be a fantastic day for a shoot. At this time of year the sun is high enough on most of the stands as not to be an issue . A total of 25 guns turned up for the shoot, a fair number down on the previous shoot. We all suffer with our responsibilities and demands on our time. We try hard to vary the targets each shoot and try to use the ground to produce a challenging shoot. There was certainly a mix of challenging targets, my scorecard is evidence of that. The work done by the Friends of the River Ver has seen the ford continue to be no deeper than a couple of inches deep. Work on reducing the potholes and puddles in the lane is starting to pay off, although the mettled part of the lane is now showing increasing signs of wear and tear. NEXT SHOOT 23/06/18 STARTS 12:30 The shoots will continue to be held every 2nd Saturday right through the year. New shooters will receive a mug listing the shoot dates for 2018 (if there are still any left). £16 for a 60 bird Sporting Clay shoot. £13 for a second round. SGC required. NOTE: Fibre wad cartridges only, max shot size 7. Rio 28g 8s are available for £5:00 / box of 25. Can be bought in bulk (£50/250)(£200/1000). Shoot starts at 12:30, currently last ticket is 15:00. (Last ticket time extends to 16:00 as the daylight hours increase through Spring/Summer). Safety Equipment must be worn: Hat, Safety Glasses, Ear Defenders. Semi-automatic Shotguns: If not carried in a slip, a breech flag MUST be used. Only 2 cartridges are to be loaded when the gun is in use. The shoot is held over 6 Stands offering a variety of targets, using Standard, Midi, Rabbit and Battue clays and are shaped by the features of the scenic ground. No two shoots are the same. The site is on a flood plane, so can be wet and muddy underfoot, walking/hunting/welly boots are advised. Tea and coffee is included on the ticket. Full English Breakfast Bowls, Bacon rolls, Doughnuts, Chocolate and Soft Drinks are available for purchase. Ample parking. WC. The site is best approached from the Harpenden to St Albans Road (A1081) via Beesonend Lane. Follow the Brown Fishery and Black and White Shoot signs down the lane for 1 mile. At the ford turn right and continue along the lane to the site. The short length of ford to drive through is only inches deep. The fishermen that come to the site never have any problems. 13/14 days the site functions as a day ticket fishery for Trout (Lake 1 and R.Ver) and Mixed Coarse Fishery (Lake 2). Want to try fly fishing for trout or coarse fishing for carp, tench, chub, bream, perch, roach and rudd? Taster sessions can be arranged. Lake and Chalk Stream Trout fishing for £15!!! Brown Trout to 4lb in the river (catch and release only). Note: The Brown Trout River Season is now open. See the newly updated Redbournbury Fishery and Sporting Clay website and our Facebook page. SAFETY NOTICE - A shooter suffered what appears to have been a choke deforming and blocking the barrel. The barrel ended up with a bulge and part of the rib loose. Always check your barrels are "EMPTY" before you reload.
  2. The day started damp but by the start time the sun was out and it got hot. As the shooters finished there was a run on tea/coffee, canned drinks and squash. A total of 35 guns turned up for the shoot. Not bad for a Bank Holiday and with the Herts Show just down the road. We try hard to vary the targets each shoot and try to use the ground to produce a challenging shoot. I didn't think the shoot was too taxing but even some of the good shots were reluctant to reveal their totals. The work done by the Friends of the River Ver has seen the ford continue to be no deeper than a couple of inches deep. 3. The forecast was for rain and it started just as the shoot started. . A total of 28 guns turned up for the shoot. It used to be that most of the guns would turn up ready to shoot at 12:30. Just recently their arrival has become more spread out, which reduces any waiting time on the stands. We try hard to vary the targets each shoot and try to use the ground to produce a challenging shoot. One gun shot 58/60 so we will have to try harder. If you think you are up to the challenge, come and give it a try. The work done by the Friends of the River Ver has seen the ford continue to be no deeper than a couple of inches deep. Work has also begun on reducing the potholes and puddles in the lane. However heavy farm traffic and the rain are making this effort a bit like painting the Forth bridge! NEXT SHOOT 26/05/18 STARTS 12:30 The shoots will continue to be held every 2nd Saturday right through the year. New shooters will receive a mug listing the shoot dates for 2018 (if there are still any left). £16 for a 60 bird Sporting Clay shoot. £13 for a second round. SGC required. 4. On the best day of the year so far, a total of 30 guns turned up for the shoot. As usual the format of the stands were varied and challenging. The work done by the Friends of the River Ver has seen the ford continue to be no deeper than a couple of inches deep. Work has also begun on reducing the potholes and puddles in the lane. NEXT SHOOT 28/04/18 STARTS 12:30 The shoots will continue to be held every 2nd Saturday right through the year. 5. Despite the wet weather and it being Easter Saturday a total of 30 guns turned up for the shoot. Many of the guns said how much they had enjoyed the targets. The work done by the Friends of the River Ver has seen the ford continue to be no deeper than a couple of inches deep. Work has also begun on reducing the potholes and puddles in the lane. NEXT SHOOT 14/04/18 STARTS 12:30 The shoots will continue to be held every 2nd Saturday right through the year. 6. Because of the snow there were obviously questions about whether the Redbournbury shoot would go ahead on Saturday 03/03/18. Bob and Martin got to the ground on the Friday afternoon and managed to set up 6 stands. There was not much discussion about the targets, the priority was having targets to shoot if the meet was to go ahead. Saturday morning Bob was first there and started completing the stands. Martin stopped in a couple of places in the lane and cleared some drifted snow to help any shooters get to the ground. A total of 17 guns turned up for the shoot which was actually quite a challenging shoot. No 50+ scores this shoot. Martin buttoned for one gun who scored 50 at the previous shoot. This time he managed 33. The work done by the Friends of the River Ver has seen the ford continue to be no deeper than a couple of inches deep. NEXT SHOOT 17/03/18 STARTS 12:30 The shoots will continue to be held every 2nd Saturday right through the year. 7. A bright, sunny Saturday 17th Feb saw 36 paying guns turn up to shoot at Redbournbury. We now have returning shooters travelling up from London and High Wycombe. They are enjoying the challenge of the targets ( the set up changes for each shoot) and a chance to socialise over a cup of tea/coffee and maybe a bite to eat. There was no one near the last shoot's top score of 57/60 this time around. Another piece of good news, the Friends of the River Ver have done some remedial work on the river, the ford is now only a couple of inches deep at the most. The shoots will continue to be held every 2nd Saturday right through the year. New shooters will receive a mug listing the shoot dates for 2018. £16 for a 60 bird Sporting Clay shoot. £13 for a second round. SGC required. NOTE: Fibre wad cartridges only, max shot size 7.
