  1. Hi all, Trying to navigate though the new world of cyber meet and greet and throwing a line out to anyone that might be able able to help... Last year I returned back to the glorious rolling hillsides of Hampshire, after a 5 year stint in dry dusty Australia and I'm looking to meet someone/people that wouldn't mind giving me abit of a intro back into shooting.. I started shooting when I was about 12 originally with an old 410 hammer action poachers side by side, shooting pigeons and rats, rabbits, going along with a family friend on a rough shoot he was a member of. Then went along as a half gun on the same rough shoot and I absolutely loved it, got my shotgun licence owned a few labs decided the country life was for me.. then I hit 18 and booze and girls and gave up . I have never shot to a high standard but I just love being out, walking for hours, being with the dogs sitting in hides WAITING..!! Since I have been back I've tried to make contact with the old club I was part of but most of the old boys I went with I guess, don't have the internet.. I'm looking to join a rough shoot and chip in with feeding of birds, maintainanace of pens/woodland etc, I'd like to come along for a few days and not shoot and then join for next year, ideally carrying on abit of out of season pest control with my new shooting family.. I'm based in Portsmouth/Southampton half way in between but I'm neither Pompey or saints. I'm work mon-fri till 5 as an electrician so shooting sat would suit me best.. If you can put me in touch with any clubs I'd be more than grateful, I'm not looking for huge bags or a huge cost thanks in advance, Mike
  2. anybody know why this gun wont cycle 3 rounds works fine with 2 in but if you put 3 in the third either ejects with the 2nd round unfired or sticks in the bottom against the 2nd shell
  3. Hi all I know this is not the best way of gaining permission but I thought it would be worth a try. I am look to get permission to shoot in surrey. I have been helping a pal out for the past 2 years on 2 farms in Kent where he has his permission. Due to family ties (2 young children and a 9 month baby) I am looking to get my own area nearer to home. In Kent we were mainly helping with the pigeons and lamping the rabbits (now and again). I would be looking to do the same locally as I have all the equipment for both and a truck. I have my shotgun licence and BASC insurance (full licence). I also have a good understanding on how to look after the owners land. If anyone can help, advise or point me in the right direction, please feel free to reply. Thanks in advance and I look forward to any responses. Sam
  4. Hi ive recently bought a crosman phantom mark 2 12ftlb air rifle i must say its a superb rifle very accurate and consistant and very nice to look at but the trigger is a big problem in short its rubbish i took the screw out of it to make it a little easier and smoother to pull but still no luck any tips on what type of trigger i should go for or anything i can do to it for better results ?
  5. A friend has just given me an old hw90 to see if I want to buy it. He says that it stopped working after he took the trigger guard off. I stripped it down and reset the trigger and it now clicks when the gun is cocked but that's it . I don't know if it is already cocked and the trigger isn't working but there is no real resistance when you cock it. The gun is at least ten years old.
  6. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knew of any books aimed at shooting crows/corvids? Or if anyone could give me some information on where or on what crops/fields/raptor decoy is best to shoot them for each different time of the year? Thanks
  7. When I click on New Content, it reads "sorry no new content found" I have logged out etc. but still no new content. Any ideas out there?

  9. Hi, my dad has just bought a Charles Lancaster box lock in average condition. I was wondering if it's worth getting restored to a good condition and how much would you say the gun is worth now and it's potential value. Also I'm sure I've seen someone on here who restores guns but I have completely forgotten who it was. Any help on this subject would be very much appreciated. Thanks Andrew
  10. Good morning all I have been asked on several occassions to clear the odd fox as 1 off jobs, I currently use .17HMR but need to get a bit more distance and puch so I have asked the FEO for a .22-250. He has come back to me and agreed in principle however the catch is that I need to provide a farmers/land owners letter to say I have permission. Now the for the tricky bit the land owners concerned wont do this as it is one off jobs so I'm in a bit of a pickle can anybody advise or suggest any possible solutions. I have the chance of some good land to shoot over if I can do these 1 off jobs that have good potential to become regular permissions but without the right tool for the job i'm stuck. Look forward to your sensible replies ATB Brad
  11. I have been let down for one day of a trip to Wales and hope someone on here can help or put me in touch with someone who can. Looking for some walked up shooting on January 16th. Ideally somewhere in North Wales or area between Oswestry, Chester, Stafford and Stoke. There's two guns. Open to any sporting options really! Thanks Luke
  12. Hi there everyone just thought I would say hello to you all! Im 18 years old and have been shooting 2 months now! Followed in y fatehrs footsteps can rememeber as a youngster going off to clay shoots with him always being fascinated by the different guns and characters you would get at the shoots! Inquisitiveness eventually took over and I wanted to follow in his footsteps and start up shooting! (Slowly persuading him to get back into it, just waiting on his license) I have been coached and am currently just attending a few monthly clay shoots in my area (Shropshire and Worcestershire) But it isnt enough I really want to do more and as I live in the countryside the sight of hundreds of pigeons in a field really gives me a buzz! I have never ever tried pigeon shooting and wouldnt know where to start so if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated! I really want to try decoying as soon as possible but I know nothing of how to go about it or create a succesful set up in a field! I would like to think I am gun safe and although I have been shooting such a small amount of time safety was my main focus with me having hours of lessons just on gun safety before I even got to fire a cartridge! I really wanted to know how is the best way to get into it and being a beginner if there is any possible way to go out decoying and learn all the tricks of the trade? Watching youtube videos has helped educate me a small but but I feel there is no better way for me to learn than to go out into the field and practise it all! Wishing everyone a Very Merry Christmas and hope to be hearing from some of you soon!
  13. Would deeply appreciated some help

  19. Not sure if this is in the right section: Hi all, I am looking at buying my first semi auto, I've decided I want a beretta because I have a 682 gold e now and have read nearly all good reviews about beretta's. I would like some opinions on whether to go for a new Beretta a300 outlander or a s/h al391 at a similar price to the new gun. I would use the gun as a hide gun, and a just a general gun for most things. Does anyone have the outlander and if they get on with it or whether the al391 is a much better gun? Thanks
  20. I've just obtained a share in an allotment where the water table seems to be an inch above the soil surface. Other holdings on the plot suffer in a similar way, mine being 6inches deep in water at a low point. I've been told by the Assoc secretary that field drains are in place but that the land is made up ground from excavation spoil from the nearby new school, and is very much a red clay soil. Most likely, as is often the case ,the site agent or contractor flogged of the best topsoil from what was previously good farm land . Apparently when this allotment area was leveled off with the spoil material this was rolled with a vibrating roller compacting the clay and making the strata virtually watertight. What can be done? Must it be double dug to loosen up the underlying clay pan? Or would some investigation of the field drainage system find a solution? Blackpowder

Ok, below are two ferret finder collars I have. the Top is definitely a Mark1(15ft) I have batteries and spares for this one although I can't work out what numbers are on them maybe my eyesight is failing! but that's easily rectified with a trip to the nearest market stall. Question is the the bottom collar, is it a mark 1? and if so what batteries does it take? Any help/advice greatly received Steve(HandleBar)
