  1. Hello I have been shooting clays and wingshooting for over 20 years, mainly in the US. Just moved back to UK and got my SC last week so I got myself a nice shotgun and I am ready to go. Looking to get into pigeon shooting and , since I don't have any contacts or permissions yet, I am willing to pay for some shooting as it becomes available over the next few months and depending on the local crops etc. I live around Fordingbridge- Ringwood and I am willing to travel perhaps up to 1 1/2 hours for a good place. I can be contacted here, but better at jmmartiherrero@hotmail.com. Cell is 0034 648 026 028 I would also consider helping out with whatever, in exchange for observing and learning, if you want to take me as a pupil Thanks very much. JM
  2. Hi, Yes its the age old question of gaining permission to shoot on land. I currently shoot on a large estate and have known the estate manager/game keeper for some years without any incident. Being ex-military I am always polite and courteous of whom ever I meet whilst I am about shooting (in life as well), and this has stood me in good stead over the years (you never know who you meet whilst out). But due to partridge/pheasant shooting my shooting is curtailed between some months due to this well deserved sport as this earns the estate the money they need. So off I went looking for pastures new, I looked over the advice on the website regarding gaining permission to shoot on land. I dressed smart, printed out some business cards, knocked on quite a few doors and introduced myself politely. I explained where I currently shoot and who for and gave the farmers the opportunity to ask me questions and if need be check my story so to speak. As a communications/mechanical engineer I offered my services such as beating etc any time when I am not at work to them (i work 4 on 4 off) and at Christmas I popped round some of the nearer farms and dropped off some of my home made sloe gin, just to keep me in mind if anything comes about. But as of yet not much luck. I had many replies such as "We already have some people who shoot for us" to "NO thank you". I totally understand the point that some farmers just do not want some stranger wandering around their farm with a gun and yes trust needs to be earned. Just wanted to gain some of the forums experience from this matter, what if anything am I doing wrong? Is there anything else I could be doing to improve my odds etc. Just for interest I live not too far from Long Melford, Suffolk. Thanks for your time and comments. Regards Flash.

  9. Hi all, Im new to the world of shooting, having been down to a range in Cardiff for some target shooting and a hand full of clay shooting days, and now feel like it would be wise to invest in my own rifle +/ shotgun. I am at the point where I have looked at the law in detail, found a local range that I could become a member of, found what I could comfortably afford to buy and shoot, inc safes etc, have even found a few other uni students that are interested and actively shoot, and so are in the process of forming a shooting and conservation society (we have a meeting a welsh BASC rep in Jan 2016 which sounds good). Id ideally like to get to a point where I am a competent enough shooter to go stalking with a club . I am really looking now for info on what I should be doing when applying for my license, ie what should I be writing in terms of my reasons for a license? do I need to put the address and other details of the land that I intend to ( ad obviously have permission to) shoot on? do I need to have already been on a stalk prior to getting a license? do I have to buy the safe before the safety check from the police? among other basic firearms licensing questions. Id also be interested in any places around S. Wales, mainly swansea and cardiff, that offer stalking opportunities, in addition to any land owners who would be interested allowing us (8 so far) to shoot pest on their behalf? any and all help is greatly appreciated, Alex
  10. Hi all! First time poster on this forum, just wanted to say hi! Am fairly new to clay shooting (started in Feb this year) and am really enjoying weekends out on the clay grounds. I started off going to Park Farm (Phil Sanders) outside Ombersley which is a fairly nice ground but limited on days offered. Recently started going to Griffin-Lloyd shooting ground in mid wales and have found it to be a really good course layout and open 7 days too! My question really is, have any of you seasoned shooters got any hidden gem clay shooting grounds around shropshire / Worcestershire / Gloucestershire that you might be willing to divulge on this forum? Would also be nice to meet some more guns with similar interests in the local area too (I am based around 20 miles from Kidderminster in south shropshire area)........ God that sounds likes dating request! Anyways, any advice or tips to new shooter welcome! Thanks all Andy

Hi all, As a quick note of introduction - I've been shooting (mainly .22 rim fire, .223 and 12 bore shotguns) in North Yorkshire for the last few years, and have recently relocated can to Maidenhead, Berkshire. I've also bought a BSA R10 mk 2 air rifle and am looking for a permission to go shooting. I enjoy shooting pigeons, crows, squirrels and rabbits etc, and would love to get a fox! My postcode is SL6 9LR and I'm happy anywhere with in an hours drive. I'm a responsible chap and a BASC member - so am fully insured. I can be free all day most weekends and occasionly on a week day. 14. Just a bit of a rant really, Sir Peter Scott was a keen fowler and learned a huge amount of nature out with his gun, yet his Wikipedia entry doesn't mention shooting once, it's ridiculous... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Scott Somehow 'conservationists' imagine that being a fowler and a conservationist are mutually exclusive, which of course couldn't be further from the truth.
  15. Looking for a small bit of Land to Train my dogs on in Norfolk Wroxham area if poss but will travel, with some water dyke marsh ect. Would be nice if I could take my gun also and have a pop at odd pigeon ect. Regards Carl

  18. Hi, I'm 27, have recently moved to the Newmarket area and am looking to settle back into my shooting again as soon as possible. Ideally I'm looking for a local friendly syndicate for the 2015 game season and also for some pigeon shooting, walked-up vermin control on an ad hoc basis over the summer. I'd really like to hear from anyone who might want a mate to accompany them on outings or to help out when a second gun really helps. I have a couple of shotguns, appropriate insurance and over 10 years shooting experience. Thanks, Sean
  19. I've added this event to the PW calendar but thought I'd put it here as well so a few more people have sight of it. There are events being held all over the country for National Ladies Shooting Day but I shall be at Eriswell Lodge (formerly Lakenheath Shooting Ground). This is a great event for ladies to try shooting, very friendly, light guns, nice company, especially good value. And if any lady shoots already they are welcome to come and see if they can beat my 29/30 record :-) There will also be cake of course. Join us at the newly refurbished Eriswell Lodge (formerly Lakenheath Shooting Ground) on the first ever National Ladies Shooting Day. This event is just £35pp and includes 30 cartridges and clays, top tuition, ear and eye protection and a goody bag, all in celebration of ladies who shoot or who want to try shooting. Book at http://shotgunandchelseabunclub.co.uk/events/eriswell-lodge-shooting-ground/.
  20. Hi chaps in need of a morale boost as some of you guys know i have a very small permission which isn't good at all to be on. The land owner will only allow me to shoot over it which is great and i feel privileged but can be lonely at times i wouldn't mind if i was busy but the rabbits over there don't exists anymore. So as you can imagine i have been looking about to join people on other permissions hopefully find some nice land owners/shooters who don't mind me having a shoot with them or lamping buddy but of course i wouldn't ask for this until they know me well enough. That said i have knocked on more doors than i can remember rang so many golf clubs and to no a vale the land owner said they would happily give a reference to anyone who asks about me as he knows me well but because i haven't had a chance to meet other people mainly due to the fact i am the only shooter allowed over there no one knows me. So getting out with people or gaining new permission is ridiculously hard and this shooting game works as we all know unless your a friend of a friend or know someone close to the land owner/shooter you might as well go whistle as in this area Essex land is so precious and hard to come by because is so heavliy pressured by everyone here. Of course i will keep looking and i have meet some nice chaps (farmers) but everwhere i go they dont know me and of course they already have a group of people shooting who keep it to themselves which is understandable around here and concidering i wanted to get into a little bit of gamekeeping which life hasnt taken me that way i am doing badly on the shooting front lol. So chaps i am asking you to give me a morale boost to make me feel better and to keep knocking on them doors maybe share your past experiances on how you struggled to get your first permisson and if you didnt struggle and strolled into having a place to shoot please dont let me know it will only depress me. Up for a laugh. Nick. P.s. If you know anyone around the essex area looking for a shooting buddy / shooter please PM would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Hello there! Just looking a little bit of advice on a custom stock that i am looking to get for a TX200HC. I have already decided from the optional extras that i want a Rosewood Cap on the pistol grip +£20. Unsure about Skip Checkering vs Stippling? I definitely don't want standard checkering. (Find myself leaning towards skip checkering instead of Stippling) Any advantage of one over the other or is it all just look? Any pics of your Skip checkered or Stippled Air Rifles would be really cool and give me a better comparison between the two. Skip Checkered +£12. Stippling +£15. And the last optional extra is Adjustable Recoil pad... Any real advantage of this in the field? as it is mainly hunting that i will be doing. Adjustable Recoil Pad +£30 Also the adjustable pad is bannana shaped (prob not official description) as opposed to flat. Does this make it sit in your shoulder better? Thanks in Advance!!!
  22. Hi all, Trying to navigate though the new world of cyber meet and greet and throwing a line out to anyone that might be able able to help... Last year I returned back to the glorious rolling hillsides of Hampshire, after a 5 year stint in dry dusty Australia and I'm looking to meet someone/people that wouldn't mind giving me abit of a intro back into shooting.. I started shooting when I was about 12 originally with an old 410 hammer action poachers side by side, shooting pigeons and rats, rabbits, going along with a family friend on a rough shoot he was a member of. Then went along as a half gun on the same rough shoot and I absolutely loved it, got my shotgun licence owned a few labs decided the country life was for me.. then I hit 18 and booze and girls and gave up . I have never shot to a high standard but I just love being out, walking for hours, being with the dogs sitting in hides WAITING..!! Since I have been back I've tried to make contact with the old club I was part of but most of the old boys I went with I guess, don't have the internet.. I'm looking to join a rough shoot and chip in with feeding of birds, maintainanace of pens/woodland etc, I'd like to come along for a few days and not shoot and then join for next year, ideally carrying on abit of out of season pest control with my new shooting family.. I'm based in Portsmouth/Southampton half way in between but I'm neither Pompey or saints. I'm work mon-fri till 5 as an electrician so shooting sat would suit me best.. If you can put me in touch with any clubs I'd be more than grateful, I'm not looking for huge bags or a huge cost thanks in advance, Mike

  24. Thank you so much if you have already completed this survey in a previous post. However I am looking for more responses please if at all possible - I know its a big ask! If you've completed it once, you do not need to do it again, I have your response recorded My name is Tiffany Lees and I am a student studying BA (Hons) Business Management. As part of my final year dissertation project, I am investigating whether the procedure of colour coding shotgun cartridge cases, should be reintroduced as standard industry practice to promote user safety, or whether it's not necessary. Shooting is a passion on mine, and I wanted to include it within my dissertation topic. I am therefore asking if you would agree to participate in my research by answering a very short questionnaire. I would be very grateful to hear your thoughts on this matter. Just click the link: http://goo.gl/forms/TplbvxFJk2 Thank you very much once again.
