  1. Shooting for the Future A joint venture between the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust and BASC. This 2 day course aims to improve your shooting and improve your shoot management. The next event is being held at Ripley Castle in Yorkshire on the 8th and 9th May. Further details of the course and booking instructions can be found hear http://basc.org.uk/sporting-services/basc-training-courses/shooting-for-the-future/ We have received numerous Testimonials from the previous events held at Loddington in Leicestershire “The high standard of presentations and coaching reinforced my opinion that conservationists and game shooters are very well represented by GWCT and BASC, who do so much for the environment and their membership, which is open to all.” IW, Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Environmentalist “I’m Still elated from a first class day last Friday.” IB “It was first class” – Mr Walker “The simulator was brilliant. The Coaching session was perfect! And the instructors Superb; Well Done! “– Mr Burkinshaw. “The range judging and subtending was an eye opener – How wrong can one be? Very useful course” – Mr Pawlth “Fantastically informative for someone with little experience of game shooting. Such better value than an hours private lesson at the local clay ground, plus the proceeds go to a worthy cause” – Mr Cormichael “Thank you for a very interesting day” – Mr Allen “BASC and GWCT have put together an excellent course giving me much to think about, and techniques to help improve my shooting. All staff were extremely friendly with a wealth of experience in all forms of shooting. Very much looking forward to my next course” – Mr Stott “We were both new to shooting and believe that all new certificate holders would benefit from this early insight if they intend to shoot quarry. We are certainly more respectful. Thank you for your time. Very well run and informative course and exceptional value” – Mr and Mrs Mason.

  3. Thank you so much if you have already completed this survey in a previous post. However I am looking for more responses please if at all possible - I know its a big ask! If you've completed it once, you do not need to do it again, I have your response recorded My name is Tiffany Lees and I am a student studying BA (Hons) Business Management. As part of my final year dissertation project, I am investigating whether the procedure of colour coding shotgun cartridge cases, should be reintroduced as standard industry practice to promote user safety, or whether it's not necessary. Shooting is a passion on mine, and I wanted to include it within my dissertation topic. I am therefore asking if you would agree to participate in my research by answering a very short questionnaire. I would be very grateful to hear your thoughts on this matter. Just click the link: http://goo.gl/forms/TplbvxFJk2 Thank you very much once again.
  4. Hi I'm after some advice I found this gun in my parents loft while clearing it out, I don't have a licence and neither did they as far as I'm aware. I have no idea what to do with it, I would like to display it at home but I think I would need to get it deactivated does anyone know if this is possible or is the only option to hand it in to be destroyed?
  5. Hi All, Please complete my final (short) survey regarding the colour coding of shotgun cartridges as to whether it's worthwhile being reintroduced. Click the link: http://goo.gl/forms/EiI2LIQMLB Much appreciated. Tiff

  9. Hi all, I am new to this so please try to be patient. I am trying to decipher the markings on an old .410 folding double barrel. Can someone please explain what they all mean or, failing that, point me in the direction of someone who could help. Thanks for your patience. Mart.
  10. Anyone ever heard of this or got it done? I'm after a SxS 12 Gauge with a single trigger and 3" chamber and ideally wanted ejector on it. (I'll of brought this up in the past) I plan on buying it mid September time The closest I've found to my specs sadly has no ejector so am I able to have it modified?

  14. I've grown up shooting my fathers Beretta which fits me perfectly. 12 Bore with 28 in barrels and an unusual handgrip. I've only ever seen them again on rizzini and perazzi guns. I recently bought my own beretta but the hand grip is different and I feel its chunkier and harder to shoot Heres a picture to explain what I mean about the grips i know the top gun is a rizzini but its the only example I could find of the handgrip does anyone know if there's a special name for this kind of grip? or why beretta dont seem to do that grip anymore? thanks
  15. Hey guys, I've had this old side by side 12 gauge for a while and was wondering if I could have the barrels replaced? And also, would I be able to replace them with 3" chambered barrels? The gun is/was not originally 3" chambered. Or does the stock somehow have to be 3" chamber proof too?
  16. Hi there, shooter from Peterlee here, would greatly appreciate any land to shoot on, more than willing to take down any pest. On break from my university till later in the year now, have full insurance from BASC and a few years of experience. Shotgun is my tool of choice, let me know if you have anything, thanks
  17. I thought I'd just show off my new toy - a Caesar Guerini Magnus Sporter, 12g 30 inch barrels, picked up from A Branthwaite Gunsmiths in Cheadle Hulme - excellent service, and a thoroughly nice bunch of guys. It's my first shotgun, so I'm very happy with it!
  18. Hi all I am in the middle of restoring a old Italian side by side shotgun and I was looking some help. Here is what I know about it first. Made in the Gardone region and proof marks date it to 1962. Barrels are 28" and are choked for 1/2 and Full. Double triggers, with the rest trigger cast to the left for left handed shooters. Action is fully engraved and had pigeons on both sides and a sliver pigeon on the top of the barrels and IDEAL engraved on the rib. What I would like to know is the following. Value: how much would this be worth (yes it still fires ok) 2: with it being a left handed gun does this make it more rare? And 3: any other history on the gun or ways of contacting a company linked with it. Thanks very much.
  19. As above 28 shotgun gauge wanted preferred with multichoke and 3" chamber but will consider 70mm in o/u or semi auto and within 100 miles of Abergavenny w.h.y. ? Also looking for a 12 gauge with multichoke , W.H.Y. ?
  20. I am new to this addictive sport and would appreciate some advice on choosing a first gun. So far I have looked at several new and second hand guns which after a while all seem to blur into one. On the advice of most people I have spoken to directly it seems a good / recognised maker's used gun is better value for money than a budget brand new one. Based on this I have narrowed a choice down to a couple of options which are a Beretta 682 or the Miroku MK38. Recently I tried a MK38 Trap gun with fixed chokes (1/2 and 1/2, I am told) which I found to be very good for me. It seemed to fit well and I hit a lot more than I missed with it, or maybe I just had a lucky day, however the price is a little more than I wanted to pay. So here's the question. Will any MK38 feel the same as this one I liked allowing me to hunt around for the same gun from a different place to fit my limited budget? Any advice, comments or help appreciated! thanks, Mitch4
  21. does choke really matter in shooting, whether it be clays, game.. is it something that should be considered seriously? will it affect performance?
  22. Looking for a cabinet or safe prefer 3 gun but what have you? In west midlands (birmingham) can travel a certain distance. Cheers shanegrohl@gmail.com or PM me.
  23. Hello All, I have to move out of my home in the next couple of weeks, and cannot move into the house I am buying until the new year at the earliest. This means that I will be staying in rented accommodation for 2-3 months. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how I can safely and legally store my two shotguns for the duration. Currently, I keep my shotguns along with my air rifles in a gun safe which is affixed to my property. Obviously, I'll have the same arrangement when I move to my new house, but in the intervening two or three months, I'll only have a rented property (details not yet finalised!). I don't think the landlord is going to appreciate my drilling four massive holes in his wall, and that's assuming the place I find even has a solid wall to affix the safe to. Most of my furniture and possessions will be going into self storage, and I was wondering whether I can also store my guns there. Obviously I would like to retain the ability to get at my guns so that I don't have to give up my favourite hobby during the winter months. If I were to put the safe into storage along with my other stuff, would this be good enough? It seems that the legal requirement is to keep the guns secure, but I cannot find anything that says I MUST have the safe at my home. I have also considered asking an RFD to hang on to them, but this will obviously cost me money and make the guns harder for me to access, since the clay shoots I attend tend during the autumn/winter months tend to be on Sunday mornings. I do have a friend and work colleague who I could ask, but he has a pretty large collection of guns and I'm pretty certain he doesn't have room for two more. What are the legal implications of keeping the guns secured in the boot of my car? I don't (and will not) need to park on the street at night, and my work also offers secure parking facilities. Obviously the car is at risk of being stolen, but I have never had such a problem in 20+ years of owning a car. My biggest concern with that is that the car might not always be warm and dry, so corrosion might be an issue. Obviously I want to do the right thing, but I also would like to have the guns accessible by me at short notice and on Sundays! I can do that if I store them in the self storage, but not if I give them to a friend to keep for me. Any comments or ideas on this would be much appreciated. I did search the forums before posting, but apologies if this exact question has been asked before. Many thanks, SF
  24. As the title states, I looking for a reasonable priced shotgun for clay pigeon shooting. Not ultra fussy, but my basic requirements are: 12 bore Multi-choke Not an auto-safety Reasonable condition Within 30 minutes drive of Peterborough or Spalding Priced no more than £400.
  25. Went out last night for a quick look for a couple rabbits, as pulling up to my permission a fox ran in front of my car. A slight change of plan I thought would go and stand under a tree in the middle of the field and squeak using my fox pro and see if the fox would return. Got there and tucked in with my mate and the lamp and started squeaking mainly looking in the direction of where I saw the fox, within 1 min from a completely different direction I saw something bolting across the field and one last squeak it turned directly for I got to with 12yds and I shot stopping it dead, gave it another just to be sure and that was it my first fox. What an adrenaline rush calling it in blind and it being there within a minute. One happy farmer and me very happy!
