  1. I have several spaces remaining on some of my shoots - available immediately. Runs from 1st April to 31 March each year. You are supplied with personal & vehicle passes and can attend at almost any time without making bookings, shoot when you like. Good varied quarry. Please p.m me with your full name, email address and contact phone number. I will mail you back a set of rules for information & arrange to have you shown round ASAP. My bailiff will be showing perspective members round this Friday during the day & will call you for a chat. Now the light evenings are here, evening viewings will be available as well. I have four places available at a Rawreth/WIckford shoot priced at £400 pgpa. I have one place available at a Billericay shoot priced at £420 pgpa Just One gun available at a lovely Rennendon/Runwell shoot at £550 pgpa. Just One gun available at a nice starter shoot at Runwell for just £175 pgpa. If you are the sort of person that shoots anything that moves without caring what it is - this is not the syndicate for you. I expect members to be respectful, considerate & safe. I only supply the appropriate number of guns depending of the size/type of shoot, nothing is overshot. I have 27 years experience in this area & am proud of my reputation. I can provide all details via email or telephone. Look forward to hearing from you. Regards Gordon
  2. I had my regular drive around a few spots on Friday. I already had a feeling where I would end up the next day. A farmer had given me the heads up that he would be drilling barley on Thursday, and he said there would likely be a bit spilled due to the imperfect seed bed. I had already been to look at some rape and several acres of freshly planted beans. The beans looked a waste of time, but a couple of rape fields may have served as back-up fields. As I parked up to look at the barley field I could see very little activity. Then I reached for the binoculars. Over half way down I could see 500 pigeons tucking in. Good. I then looked down to see several little red barley grains scattered on the soil surface. I didn't think I could take the chance and leave it until Sunday, so I phoned Jules and asked for his attendance for the next day. We probably turned up a bit too early the next morning. Jules thought it extremely funny to tell me that someone had beaten us too it. My heart sank until he admitted he was jesting. ****! I knew where to set up, from previous experience on the field. I also knew that most of the pigeons would come from behind the hide position. Things were slow to get going. Jules thought I had made a mistake. I was only slightly concerned... When the flight did commence, we weren't getting the expected nice decoying birds. We tinkered with the pattern, but no matter what we did, the majority of the birds seemed to bypass us. It didn't really matter, as we decided to flight them. One of us manned the decoys, whilst the other took the birds coming from behind us. This seemed to work well, though in the wind we had some very tricky pigeons to contend with. The Express 32 gram steel 4s did the job admirably when we did our bit. Likewise, the Eley 24 gram 7.5 did fine with the medium range birds. The flight lasted a while, but alas, all good things come to an end, and all too soon. We finished on 108 pigeons, 2 crows, a rook and a jackdaw. It's Jules' turn to take me out on one of his drilled fields tomorrow.......
  3. Hi all, I wonder if I might ask for a little help with a few decoying issues which I'm having. I'm an experienced shooter but most of my pigeon shooting has always been roost shooting or flight lining and decoying is fairly new to me. I've been shooting pigeons on two fields, one of newly drilled game crop seeds and one of drilled barley. At first the old strip of game crop still ran along the middle of the field and made building a hide near the feeding area easy and I had some good shooting. This has now been ploughed up and the pigeons are still feeding on the seed but there is nowhere nearby to build a hide where it won't stick out like a sore thumb. Does this matter? I remember reading that Archie Coates said it wasn't good to have a hide in open ground but other people seem to say it doesn't matter? The second issue which I'm having is when shooting over the drilled barley. There are always lots of birds on the ground when I arrive, but once I've built my hide and set out the decoys the birds will not come back into the field. It's not that they're seeing the pattern and shying away as if there is something wrong with it, they are just flying over without showing the least sign of interest in the pattern whatsoever. There is conifer wood across the road behind the area where I have to set up and I get occasional shots as they make their way into that, but they will not come back into the field. I only have shell decoys at the moment, which I couple with some dead birds. Would a flapper or a rotary make a big difference in pulling the birds off of their flightpath or might I be doing something fundamentally wrong? Thanks very much for your patience with a beginner! 4. Decided on the spur of the moment to go out on the pigeons this afternoon. Turned up on the permission and saw many hundreds lifting off and falling back on the crop. I could not believe my luck, I drove around found a likely spot set up and waited. Well the hundreds did not come over to me but a few did, and this was their mistake. I had a few very good shots, missed some easy shots. But had a great afternoon out; 3 1/2 hours of fun in great weather and a nice pleasant spot to shoot over. This is the last time I can shoot for over a week now, in fact nearly two weeks, and this spot looks like it is going to be really productive. I may have to see if I can get out for a couple of hours in the evenings if that is possible. Oh, I forgot to say, by the way I shot 36 pigeons as well.
