  1. Hi All, myself and my son are experienced beaters (4/5 seasons) on a rough shoot, mixed cover and bramble woodland with our 7 & 3 year old Cocker Spaniels, unfortunately mid-season last year the landlord of out shoot in Kent decided he didn't want a soot there any more and closed it down mid-season! We managed to get onto the Marks Tey shoot for the last few of the season and my lad got to shoot on keeper's day (I don't shoot). Whilst we have an invite back to Marks Tey this coming season and beyond we would like something a little closer to home (Romford), ideally Brentwood area. I have been trying to get hold of the Hainault shoot and have this week spoken to them but it seems they have enough dogs and beaters. If you have vacancies or know of a shoot that does, please let me know and we can arrange to meet pre-season or on pigeon. Cheers.
  2. Avery layout blind, waterproof backing, shoulder straps, framed back rest/face blind. Can be mudded and has loops for straw/vegitation and holds me and a spaniel with ease (two spaniels was a nightmare so don`t try that folks!). Too large/expensive to post, £65. I live in Perth but travel to Tyneside via the A1fairly regularly.
  3. Two experienced 63 year olds seeking long term permission to assist with shotgun corvid and pigeon pest control. Have all the required kit. Fully insured. Can attend weekly, pm me in the first instance. Arable land preferred
  4. Morning all, I have recently been contacted about a local permission where the land owner would like to me come and help dispatch a number of crows with my trusty 12 bore. I have been pigeon shooting before but never shot crows. I wondered if any of you kind folks could answer a couple of the below questions? 1. Ideal cartridge for crows 2. best method (Pattern of decoys, considerations for wind direction, placement of hide, general set up) 3. best times of day to set up/ start shooting 4. Best way to dispose of shot corvids/ crows afterwards 5. any general hints and tips from those of you that regularly control the crow population many thanks in advance!
  5. I am looking for shooting opportunities within reasonable driving distance from Hemel Hempstead. I have 12g shotguns and .22 air rifle. I am a member of BASC and have the associated insurance. Can do Walk Up or Hide+Decoys. Would consider one off (free/paid - please state price), short-term or anything longer. I am available most days except Saturdays. Thanks Martin
  6. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knew of any books aimed at shooting crows/corvids? Or if anyone could give me some information on where or on what crops/fields/raptor decoy is best to shoot them for each different time of the year? Thanks
  7. As i mentioned in another post yesterday, whilst out checking some barley for pigeons i bumped into the farmer who told me he may have something better for me to look at. He said they had been silaging on wednesday and thursday and with ground stiil damp under foot there was plenty of food for corvids and as a result the 30 acre field was covered in 3-400 rooks and crows. I didn't have a lot booked in workwise for friday but was concerned about a very hot weather forecast. I got my jobs done by 11 am and arrived at the field with two plastic crow deeks and 4 dead carions from the freezer. I put up my hide and wore my face veil and bush hat. In no time the first birds arrived and paid the price. Everything looked promising for a big bag and the weather was not to hot. Shortly after i started shooting a guy arrived on the river bank footpath 200yds to my left with what looked like some sort of monitering equipment consisting of a large [8ft] pole with something on the top? Annoying he would walk about 20 yds and stand with his tester for 10mins and even though he was aware of me shooting he carried on for 2-3 hrs which hampered the shooting slighty. Never the less it was a nice afternoon and i shot just short of fifty mixed corvids and 1 pigeon. At 5pm i packed up as the crows had found another cut silage field 1/4 of a mile away. Not quite an eccles bag but worth setting up for i think. I take my hat off to you guys who shoot big numbers of corvids regularly. It is more challenging than you think. I will find out what the guy with the equipment was up to as he parked at the farm, but if anyone has any idea's? [birds of prey perhaps].? 44 corvids in the pic as some fell in the wheat next door and i didn't have the dog.
  8. Right people, it might be a long shot, but i have this brand new fold flat Larsen trap with double top entries, and i'm willing to give it away in exchange of a full day pigeon decoying in or around Surrey, Essex, Herts, Sussex etc (no Trafalgar Square please ) I've got insurance, decoys and hide, but no pigeons Let me know what you've got !
  9. Looking for permission for air rifle shooting & ferreting, rabbits, rats, corvids. Ex military, responsible, mature, insurance covered, 0ver 25 years experience shooting. Nairn, Forres, Elgin, Lossiemouth (Moray) area North East Scotland.
  10. came across this video on the net and was suprised how the corvids in particular the magpies responded to the owl. never had much success with the owl decoy personally but might try again some time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txN0X-DWKPQ
  11. Hi all Thanks for taking the time to read this Ideally were looking for somewhere to go Vermin pigeon and rabbit mainly, We can manage deer if needed as two of us are DSCL1 Quilified, we have shotguns and Firearms from Fac .22 air, .17Hmr, 22LR, .243 and 7x57mm and DSC level 1 (Deer Stalking) we are very keen shooters and we will take on anything. I myself have been shooting for over 20 years and was a gamekeeper when I left school, we are keen to get in the fields again no matter what the weather. I’m sitting here now pulling my hair out because when I lived in Norfolk I had 3,000 acres to shoot on, bit of a long way to go for a day out... Please could someone help before I go bald!! I am from an agricultural back ground so if any farmers/land owners need a hand on the farm that won’t be a problem so please give me a shout. Were looking for some where roughly within an hour’s radius of Nottingham/Derby Finally we have all full BASC insurance and copies of all our details will be given to the land owner if needed Paul
