  1. My favourite wildfowler (Hello, Nigel!) kindly gave me a Canada goose yesterday. It was a warmish day so I dressed it after a few hours. Usually I make a decent enough job of a bird, but this one has me beaten. The feathers are leaving bits behind, and even going at it with a pair of tweezers is ridiculously slow. I'm working on the breast and wanted to make a good job of it to feed it to some young friends who are eating less meat to help fight climate change 😱 What do I do? If I keep going at this rate the meat will be out the fridge long enough to spoil. Do I give it and skin the breast? Do I give it a wave over with the blow torch and ignore the feather stubs? Your expert advice would welcome, even if it is "wait a bit and get another goose next month" 😄 If there is some plucking technique I have yet to learn I'd love to know about it. Right now looks like the kids are going to be getting pigeon instead!
  2. I decided last night that I would have Rabbit Burgers at some point today. So I took three rabbit legs out of the freezer and put them in salt water to defrost over night. This morning I proceded to cut the meat off the bone and within the muscle of one of the legs there was what lloked like a spotty white sack. I poped said sack (rouhghley the size of the end of ones thum) and out came a frog spawn like clear goo suspended in which was little white dots (I presume eggs of some kind). So I chucked this leg and made my burgers with the other two... which I have now eaten. So my question is what was it? (My guess would be some kind of tapeworm eggs?) And should I chuck the rest of my Rabbit as I joint it before freezing I have no Idea which meat corosponds to which Rabbit (and there is only about half a freezer draw full at the moment) Many Thanks, James
  3. Hi everyone, I know that my questions may have already been answered before but I can't find them and I'm still getting used to the site. I want to go camping with my girlfriend to woodland area. We have researched everything and are going to start somewhere quite easy to camp and not too far away and gradually work our way up to some more wild areas further away, but while out there, I'd like to hunt a bird and eat it as it's always been something I've wanted to do. I have heard that pigeon is one of the easiest species to catch and can be quite tasty which is why I'd like to try it. I know how to de-breast a pigeon as I have been taught that but I'm just wondering if you have any tips on hunting them, such as what pellets to use (I have BSA .22 High Impact Interceptor in 15.43grain) and an SMK starter air rifle. It may be one of the cheaper ones but it does have some kick behind it with the BSA pellets. I'd also love to hear some ways that other people have cooked their pigeon when out camping. I hope I haven't rambled on too much and you understand what I'm trying to find out. Thanks everyone, Michael
