  2. Hi i recently moved to cornwall based in portmellon. I come from a shooting background within surrey but love the outdoors and the sea and so made the move to Cornwall. I’m finding it very difficult to find shooting ground. I’m doing door knocking and still persisting. I have printed off my insurance documents and have written agreements all ready to go. I shoot shotguns and have a huge passion for pigeon and corvid shooting. I used to be part of a syndicate in Surrey so used to get to do a bit of game shooing. Being only 19 and not having the 20+ years of experience that everyone else does I think this puts be lower down the list for people. i was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to let me accompany them on any sort of day out shooting. Even a morning/evening stalking where I learn to galloch a deer (done a few times in new Zealand but no master of the trade). I’m so eager and willing to learn but I’m just struggling to find the opportunities. Im fully insured with gun plan and very gun aware. look forward to hearing from you lot! Many thanks, Tom
  3. Morning all, I have recently been contacted about a local permission where the land owner would like to me come and help dispatch a number of crows with my trusty 12 bore. I have been pigeon shooting before but never shot crows. I wondered if any of you kind folks could answer a couple of the below questions? 1. Ideal cartridge for crows 2. best method (Pattern of decoys, considerations for wind direction, placement of hide, general set up) 3. best times of day to set up/ start shooting 4. Best way to dispose of shot corvids/ crows afterwards 5. any general hints and tips from those of you that regularly control the crow population many thanks in advance!
  4. Hey all, just wanted to say a quick Hi from Cornwall, I'm a newbie to Air rifle shooting, I plan on joining 2 local clubs here in Cornwall to get acclimatised to my gun and the ethics within the shooting community, I am also fairly mature at 45 lol, my wife wouldn't agree with the mature bit, but hey ho..Eventually, I'd like to get some permissions to help out farmers or land owners.

  7. Hi All My name is Chris Chapman , i am 52 years old and live in Basingstoke Hampshire, i like thousands of you have a passion for the outdoors and am probably at my happiest walking through copse and fields as much as possible. I am semi -retired and have my own business which affords me the opportunity to be out most days of the week and weekends, i have been shooting firearms most of my life and have owned a considerable amount over the years, my present guns include, Beretta 692, 686 E Evo, SV10 perennia and a benelli M2 semi. I drive a ML320 mercedes which is total pants/useless when trying to drive through mud - maybe its just me that can't drive Anyway i am looking like everyone else for a permission to shoot some pigeon and vermin where i can and was hoping that someone can point me in the right direction or put me in contact with someone that can help. I have been knocking on doors and have dropped off flyers and have passed the word around but everything just seems like a dead end. I am happy to be newbie and tag along anyone who will afford me the opportunity and guarantee that i won't go behind someones back and rape their permission or disrespect anyones land that helps me. I am fully insured with BASC and am also willing to pay for the opportunity to shoot. Hope to hear back from you all with some advise ... Regards Chris Chapman
  8. Hi all, Trying to navigate though the new world of cyber meet and greet and throwing a line out to anyone that might be able able to help... Last year I returned back to the glorious rolling hillsides of Hampshire, after a 5 year stint in dry dusty Australia and I'm looking to meet someone/people that wouldn't mind giving me abit of a intro back into shooting.. I started shooting when I was about 12 originally with an old 410 hammer action poachers side by side, shooting pigeons and rats, rabbits, going along with a family friend on a rough shoot he was a member of. Then went along as a half gun on the same rough shoot and I absolutely loved it, got my shotgun licence owned a few labs decided the country life was for me.. then I hit 18 and booze and girls and gave up . I have never shot to a high standard but I just love being out, walking for hours, being with the dogs sitting in hides WAITING..!! Since I have been back I've tried to make contact with the old club I was part of but most of the old boys I went with I guess, don't have the internet.. I'm looking to join a rough shoot and chip in with feeding of birds, maintainanace of pens/woodland etc, I'd like to come along for a few days and not shoot and then join for next year, ideally carrying on abit of out of season pest control with my new shooting family.. I'm based in Portsmouth/Southampton half way in between but I'm neither Pompey or saints. I'm work mon-fri till 5 as an electrician so shooting sat would suit me best.. If you can put me in touch with any clubs I'd be more than grateful, I'm not looking for huge bags or a huge cost thanks in advance, Mike
  9. I was free for a morning last week and decided to take the HMR for a walk. I setup under a holy bush overlooking one of the fields. I spread some rubbish (food packaging) out in the field to bring down some crows and magpies. As you can see the weather was good but cold. Here is the video and see what you think. http://youtu.be/twxGZ7ZF8CU Thanks Antdg.
  10. Hey there u sexy lot, I'm looking to join one or a few of you fellow shooters to help you set up decoys and collect game ect free of course im a newbie looking to keep someone company and learn the sport any offer will be great fully respected.. Thanks
  11. You can find an app for just about anything these days, and a quick and simple one for logging your shooting trips and kills seems like a logical next step to update your shooting kit! I have looked at many on the Google play site, as I have a Galaxy SIII which is great, and thought I'd found a suitable app that was easy to use, but then came the bombshell!! The ActInNature Hunting app is listed as free and worked fairly well....for 10 log entries! To use it further you need to buy an annual subscription for 9.99 euros!! I'm sorry, but that's a bit steep for a diary, especially as it is not quite there yet to make it worth the money. Disappointed, I continued my search, and came accross iHunt Journal and eventually bought it for the one off price of £3.99 It's not quite as good, you can only have one photo attached to each entry, and navigating the menu is not so intuitive, buy I guess you get what you pay for! My ideal Shooters Journal would consist of a simple layout that can be customized by the user, that way certain things can be omitted to keep the interface clean. Here is a my wish list; Time/date stamp. Auto if you remember to start the app, manual if you forget (and lets face it, most of us will!) Title of hunt. Weather conditions, temperature, wind direction etc. either auto list or manual. Most smartphones monitor this already. Place, your permissions, selected from drop down user created menu. Quarry type, selected from drop down user created menu. Can also be selected multiple times on same hunt entry (lets face it, we often shoot a mixed bag!) Weapons, selected from drop down user created menu. Ammo used, selected from drop down user created menu. Map, saved tile from Google maps or other with your exact shooting position marked, either automatically with GPS enabled (GPS only enabled when map/camera activated) or manually with an icon/pin. Many apps already have this feature. Photo, up to 3 pics per shot using the phones camera of your quarry (if you hit it that is!) Would also be a really cool feature if when taking a photo of say a fox you had shot, it automatically measured the distance via GPS from your marked shooting position! Journal, the story behind the shot or days shooting. (no limit) For me, that would be great, but others may wish to add certain extras like sex, age, head score if your a deer stalker, fellow hunters/shooters if it's a days pheasant shooting etc. Another feature I would like to see is a total tally page, where you can define how many foxes/rabbits/squirrels etc. you've shot in say 2012, just the month of july, or at a certain permission! Accessing your entries would also have to be a simple task, by date, week, month, year, quarry, permission, as well as a long scroll-able list stating date and title. Not too much to ask, is it? If anyone has any other good ideas to include in this ideal shooters app or finds an app (on Android or iOS) that comes close to these specs, please let me know, I would gladly pay a one off payment for listing my shots in such a journal/format. (and just in case your wondering, yes, I have and do hand write my journal at the moment) Maybe there are some developers watching, and can design one for us..........now that would be nice!! Regards, Dave
  12. Hi all Thanks for taking the time to read this Ideally were looking for somewhere to go Vermin pigeon and rabbit mainly, We can manage deer if needed as two of us are DSCL1 Quilified, we have shotguns and Firearms from Fac .22 air, .17Hmr, 22LR, .243 and 7x57mm and DSC level 1 (Deer Stalking) we are very keen shooters and we will take on anything. I myself have been shooting for over 20 years and was a gamekeeper when I left school, we are keen to get in the fields again no matter what the weather. I’m sitting here now pulling my hair out because when I lived in Norfolk I had 3,000 acres to shoot on, bit of a long way to go for a day out... Please could someone help before I go bald!! I am from an agricultural back ground so if any farmers/land owners need a hand on the farm that won’t be a problem so please give me a shout. Were looking for some where roughly within an hour’s radius of Nottingham/Derby Finally we have all full BASC insurance and copies of all our details will be given to the land owner if needed Paul
