Mattw
Hi All, I have seen the plastic clay pigeon throwers for sale on Ebay, (the ones like the dog tennis ball throwers) my question is are they any good? can you throw a clay any distance? is it possible to throw it in a rougly repeatable manner? All relevant thoughts and comments welcome! ATB Matt
sitsinhedges
I have one and they are useful. Very easy to carry and will fling a clay a fair distance with practice. Being able to acccurately judge which direction they are going to travel in takes a bit of practice but it saves dragging a trap up the field. racingfrank7
I bought one when our lass wanted to have a go at shooting. It works well, the one i got is the double one. It can be hard to be exactly consistant like a trap cos of the user error front (arm at different angle or flicking the wrist at a different point ), but that a side they are cheap and do the job well, not as fast as a trap but good for beginners or the not so serious just wanting a bit of cheap easy fun. Put it this way i would buy it again.

utectok
Yep take a bit of practice but excelent IMHO hard to use on your own though it's fun trying!
sitsinhedges
I had to cut a short piece of plastic off the part where the clay goes in, it was holding the clay too firmly and my weedy missus couldn't get them to come out when she flung it Trimmed about an inch off IIRC and it works much better now
humperdingle
The "Jaws" are a bit tight on them at first. Can't remember where I got this advice, but I heated the bend of the arm with a flame (Just enough to supple-up the plastic) and bent the elbow a little straighter until a clay fit loosely into the jaw. This worked really well, as before, it was hit or miss (pardon the pun) as to whether a clay would launch or not. I found a good technique to use is an over-handed throw - Like you're bowling a cricket ball. This gives a good looping target. Crossers take a bit more practice, but once you've modded the launcher, it's MUCH easier to use.
