CPSA - why

Yes, there is a proper set of rules and regulations that all Registered shoots must comply with, here they are:

http://www.cpsa.co.uk/userfiles/file/CPSA_Booklet_7.pdf

The problem is, a lot of grounds tend to ignore the ones they don't like or can't be bothered with, safety cage sizes are a prime example, how often do you see them 1.2m square and 2m high, normally they're much smaller than that, which can make safe gun handling very difficult for big people?

Payouts are another problem, the ground owner should clearly state the amount of the entry fee to be paid back into the prize fund, but most grounds simply ignore this rule, and it's all "smoke & mirrors" when it comes to calculating payouts.

It's clearly not practical for the CPSA to police these regulations at the dozens of shoots held each week, and this can lead to other problems, as when the CPSA does point out a non-conformance to a ground owner, they are accused of being "heavy handed" or "insensitive", as I've said before, there are some massive ego's out there in the ground owning fraternity that are easily bruised.

The vast majority of cases where grounds have refused to run any more Registered shoots can be traced back to instances whereby the CPSA have merely sought to enforce the existing rules and regulations for the benefit of shooters, and the ground owner has taken umbrage.

Having said all that, there are some very good ideas coming out on this thread, keep 'em coming, who knows, some of these proposals may be taken on board..??

There doesn't seem to be much point in having regulations if you can pick and choose which ones you are going to adhere to and which ones you aren't. But then if noone is going to enforce the regulations as it is too much bother then the registered shoots are no better than the haybales that you keep knocking.

Out of all the different shoots etc that I have been to it is the local clubs and young farmers shoots that seem to stick to the size of cage and other safety rules yet the bigger boys don't. Caterham being a fine example.

Definitely some good ideas coming and like Cat says, hopefully we can encourage some of these proposals to be taken on board :good:

What could CPSA do for clubmen shooters

They could set-up a second division of clubman registered clubs that offer the same safety as the traditional registered clubs

The second division would be be able to run clubman competitions within a specified area against other registered clubs, like football junior leagues, so that my club could have a competition against a club say 20 miles away one day a month with say 20-30 shooters per club

Clubman scores would be registered by site owner to cpsa for their own grading system

Prizes would be non money just trophy

Teams would referee themselves

Feature a fun day out, meet new people and enjoy a challenge

CPSA could provide Safety notices and instruction DVD's to clubman clubs.

Just a few idea's that would be slow to start but give better value for members

Naturally fully registered members could avail themselves of clubman features, but limited to how many in a team say 20%

This is starting to sound more like it, but ground still may not register which still restricts.

Maybe any ground and oposing team "leaders" submit the scores for the oposing team. (if this makes sence)

This way removes the need for the clubman to be single ground registered, just register as a clubman.

Unfortunately, as things are I can't see it getting any "legs"

Times are changing D, ideas like the above need support from the grounds, shooters and the CPSA. All three of those areas need work, not just one of them
