That's a myth. The shot comes out of your barrel in one clod, still in the wad cup, so you can't hose it or spread it or smear it

It always amazes me how we manage to hit something as small as a clay.

 

The shadow just below and to right of clay is the shot - see also how much lead is on it - he did hit it as well and I think it was a L/R looper.

i thought that digweed had created this box theory for shooting loopers and battues and the like. obviously not. just out of interest could you explain your take on the "box" technique a little better, as i find it hard to grasp

A guy called Dave Taylor taught it to me, i seriously doubt dvd's had been invented at the time. I don't know how else to explain it, may be you should try to draw a diagram on a sheet of a4 and use your imagination a little

i just swing with the trajectory, and usually hit it after the apex.

usually on the way down.
