Bloke
Nice to have an ammo box in the cabinet you won't get much in it, there's no legal requirement to lock away Section 2 ammunition, only Section 1 ammo No, but the FEO says he would prefer to see something and I said what about an old army ammo box with a padlock on - he said 'better than most'. I think I would rather lock the cartridges up, mates kids in the house occasionally etc. As far as the ammo box in the cabinet - that was a bonus really, it was the only 5 gun cabinet he had in, I said I didn't need the ammo box, so he knocked me a fiver off the price, fair enough I suppose, and it saves me having to find something else before monday. Slug
It's no bad idea to keep it locked away, oddly enough you need a ticket to buy it, a RFD ticket to sell it, but because of a glitch in the law I can give Section 2 ammo away..Not that I would condone that ! Now slightly Off Topic IF you have a Section 1 Ticket without clay shooting and shotguns on it and no S2 ticket you can't buy S2 Bird or Buckshot...Bizarre ?..Not really I can't buy bullets
MITCHF
Ta for the replies. As for the gun choice, It looks like the usual beginner's 12G M/C sporter, Browning 525, Miroku MK38, beretta etc. I am going to the game/ gun fair at Newark next week and I hope to try a few to see if the fit feels good. I have been having lessons with an older Miroku, which feels OK, but it will be a good chance to try others before shelling out. I'm not sure yet about the new vs S/H debate and I am not bothered about a high grade stock etc, Grade 1 is fine if it points well! Congrats mate, got mine a year ago, it's a great feeling. Now for the shopping, oh that's going to make a hole in the bank balance My experience = had a Beretta, then Lanber, finally Miroku MK38 Teague Sporter. Why so many........."fit", I should have listened. Godd Luck, have fun

Why so many........."fit", I should have listened. Godd Luck, have fun I tried the Teague, but sadly I found it very 'nose-heavy' after the 26-inch MK70 I have been shooting and I have only just realised they are not available in a 28". In fairness, this was at Newark show and I needed more time to give it justice. What I am going to do is get a bit more time at Euroguns to try the Teague against a wider choice of 28" and 30" guns, If a 28" is my final preferred length, I can always Teague it later! Bloke
Final Update - I got a gun ! http://www.euroguns.co.uk/acatalog/info_7707.html After nearly an hour (Full marks to the patience of Nigel from Euroguns) trying various makes models and barrel lengths, I settled on the 28" Browning Premium Gold, after a very good cash discount it was nearly as cheap as the ordinary price for the basic 525, but with the grade2.5 wood and black action - well chuffed!! A lot better gun than I am a shooter, but room for me to grow into it! Now to learn to shoot it!

This was the final hour - I had spend hours on Sunday at Newark, trying every gun in sight . This was more a chance to have a last check at the opposition, to see if I had changed my mind (I had, but not much!) Don't get me wrong, I still fancied the Beretta, but no more than the 525, and the Browning was a significantly higher model than the basic for the same price as the basic Beretta, even with a cash discount! Mounting the gun with my eyes closed it just slotted straight into position - open my eyes- straight down the rib where it should be. Just like your experience, Nigel at Euroguns was really friendly and helpful, without trying to bias me to any particular gun, he even got me a coffee, despite the cafe being closed top man! Glad you got your lad sorted, I tried an MK70 - it was my 2nd choice after the 525, lovely gun (to my untutored eye, at least) I hope he really enjoys it.
