Alpha Mule
I've been talking to one of the locals and he has been telling me about a 'gas bomb' or 'gas gun' where you fit up a bottle of something volatile and some with a higher exygen content, which you force into a mole run via a combination nozzle then ignite it in the burrow. Apparently the shock wave kills all the blighters in one fell blow. I've had a hunt on t'internet for info, but cant find anything. Anyone here have any info? SSS
You can't use it (legally of course) if there are any life animals in the tunnels. They simply collapse the tunnels by igniting a mixture of propane or similar and oxygen. Edited March 1, 2010 by SSS

I don't know if they were withdrawn, something about cruelty. they were run on propane and after flooding the runs or burrows the gas was ignited they did do a good job of destoying the runs. I remember reading about someone clearing a warren and someone was trying to prosecute them for cruelty, but they had a letter/invoice from a ferriter who had cleared them before hand, and that got them off. Bleeh
The burrow blasters/Rodanators do the same thing, mix a oxygen/propane combination and squeeze it down a Rabbit hole, which is then ignited, and it blows up. I've seen, and even used one once. They are very good at what they are meant to do, and that is Collapse an EMPTY warren. The 'Legal' Guidance is that you clear the warren with ferrets, and then blow the dam thing up. Now, the issue with this it is very open to abuse. I have watched someone use a Rodenator on an un-ferreted warren and the effects are not pleasant, and the amount of suffering it causes is unacceptable. They are currently residing in a grey area. I wouldn't rush to buy one as I can guarantee that at some point soon, they'll catch the media's attention and either get banned, or at very least have a safety course/licencing attached to them. They are very dangerous tools. And like a kid with a box of matches, people push the saftey boundries with them, It's a matter of time till someone gets killed, and the said above will come into force. Beretta28g
Dont buy one at the moment. There is a crown court case going about them at the present, and weather theyre even legal to use in the UK full stop is being questioned..... Hang fire and do some digging. HDAV
Hang fire and do some digging. Is that a pun?
Beretta28g
Was not meant as one but what the hell. Just a friendly remark to weight and see the out come of the trial before going off at half cock. I mean the trial could be a flash in the pan and no bad out come will happen. So as i said before ferret out the thruth. Edited March 1, 2010 by Beretta28g
Ferret Master
Well from the perspective of a ferreter I hope the ******* things are banned in the UK. FM

Beretta28g
I prefer them to gas if theyre used properly, i think that this new aliminum phosphide is very inhumane as it drowns them. If the burrows arent ferreted first then theryre just as bad. Edited March 1, 2010 by Beretta28g
starlight32
I own a rodenator, I bought it to ages ago when they first come out. I have'nt used it for ages as its use is too complicated to remain with-in the law. You ferret the warren first, but unless you send a camera down you cannot assure you have cleared it before you use the bunker buster.I will say they do a sterling job but there use is not for the faint hearted. The force of the blast can send debris right through your clothing. If you want my opinion I put it on the list of 'One of the most unuseable things you can waste 1500 quid on' which also sit in the garage gathering dust. Natural England won't have them, there arguement of targeting non quarry species is too much in the forefront, as well as there use outside prescribed guidelines. Alpha Mule
Some of the puns here are awesome! Bear in mind though that I'm asking about moles, not rabbits. I wouldn't waste good sport / eating animals with an explosion. I was told that the concussion of the blast kills the moles outright. vulpicide
If the blast kills moles you would be prosecuted its only legal in empty runs/burrows with NO LIVE ANIMALS present.
-oXo-
Just sounds like a oxyacetylene torch to me with a propane bottle on instead.
starlight32
Just sounds like a oxyacetylene torch to me with a propane bottle on instead. The oxygen giving it the spice in the blast effectively. Acetylene has been tried in past I beleive and from my yeras of using it in the engineering processes I have no doubt it could give the results, if not at the safest to the user I just don't know why they don't authorise hand grenades and claymores on nowadays on FAC
navaraboy3000
bought a new one about a year ago for £1950!!!! i must of been mental. use it for about a solid 1 month on our horse fields and meadows to get ride of moles. It did but they soon came back. it used oxygen tanks like no ones business ended up spending about 300 quid on oxy/propane. sold it for £1300 on ebay two months later, costly laugh as that all they are. tried it on 'emty ' rabbit runs ended up with sand burns and soil filled colthes- didnt work. MY ADVICE DO NOT BUY A RODENATOR OR WARRENATOR BUY A DOZON MOLE TRAPS INSTEAD for 100 qiud better result.
