Some numpty foreman wouldn't let me on site couple weeks ago because I forgot my card, dam Carters are soo strict. It really isn't that hard to pass though if you've done it before should be a breeze just general H&S ********

Only thing I could find is the scheme guide booklet thingy but ill look around for you.

the test is'nt hard but as i usually get the book just to polish thing's off.

already this year i've had to take my IPAFF as the site did'nt accept the other certificate i had.i've had to take a PASMA course so i can set up the aliminium towers i've been setting up for the last 10+ years.my card for using a hilti nail gun has just expired so i'll have to get one and i've got SGC what a joke.health and safety is a good thing but some common sense needs to be enforced.

on a plus side if i get anymore **** off the site i'm reporting them to the EA as the have waste water spilling out onto the carpark

The famous steps and ladders course. My god that was enlightening

The problem is the H & S test for the CSCS card doesn't prove competence. It shows that you can learn answers from a book.

I scored 100% in mine and some of the questions I didn't understand what they meant. But I knew the answers as I had read them in a book.

I am glad this thread came up though as my Platinum card runs out in may and I need to renew it.

Ladders and step ladders are not banned outright to the letter of the law, but there are often local site instructions that forbid their use on certain sites, but this is mainly due to mis-interpretation of the law.

You can you ladders and steps provided they are used in the right manner.

The biggest fall over is maintaining contact, and the risk assesment process if carried out correctly should identify the hazards.

For arguements sake- if you was an electrician, using a step ladder to change a bulb would be acceptable......What would not be acceptable was if you was trying to put a a 100 weights worth of ducting and ascend the ladder with it on your shoulder.

I get fed up with it as much as probably most of the building trade does with H&S, but if we glance back to how we worked years ago we should count ourselves lucky we are still here to be reading this..............

If you think alloy towers are bad who remembers the good pinned 'quickform' which was a Laing's/Mc Alpines favorite?

Or otherwise known as 'Yellow jelly'

Mine is coming up too, but next time you go don't be fooled that just because the majority of us find it easy it is for others. When you look at some of the numbnuts that attend when sitting in the mobile testing vans the mind boggles how some manage to remember their own name.

Plenty fail it I assure you.............

the only numbnut's that fail are the one's who either don't read the book or the one's who think they don't need to read the book!!

MPT1, the cscs card does'nt show that everyone is competent,it's a money making racket.there's plenty of chancer's on building site's with cscs card's.the only way to stop the monkey's coming on is to start making the agencie's check that the people they employ are fully capable

Chancers have been about since the beginning of time, the only people who stamp out non tradesmen are unions.

As for agency's, they put bums on seats and thats all. If the client does'nt complain then its their lookout.

The contruction industry will always be the same, on any one site you will always have a percentage who work hard and are relied upon, a percentage who toss it off and a percentage who are benghal lancers..... It will never be any different to the end of time.

If I use an agency and they are no good then they get sent back. Does'nt make me very popular an individual on occasion but then you are doing yourself no justice because if it goes pear shaped you as the site manager have to take the rap.

I avoid agency trades at all costs, basically because they cost more.

I am guilty of poaching some good men though.

Your right that the cscs card does appear to confirm status when in fact it doesn't.

It's up to the employer to assess on site the quality of a man, this takes maybe an hour.
